They have been totally full lately (orcon's servers have been down) so we just get on teamspeak and organise a server. The US ones run OK.

The auto updater will take you to 1.7, DL the 1.601 files and paste them over the @dayz files

Yeah it's a mind fuck of a game to get into, the learning curve is steep.
Load up arma2 and do the bootcamp tutorial, it gives you a chance to get your configs away from that clunky mother of a setup.

Then watch this clip and you'll be out here throwing chemlights at noobs before you know it

make sure you check your settings as well as the View Distance. somewhere between 1000 - 3000 is where you wanna be. any more and it starts requiring super computers.

Make sure 3d is same res as screen. turn off the usual vsync ect

I run mine at full 10,000 and I usually get around 60 fps, though it does drop down to 30 ish at certain times, but it's usually because of the server.

view distance is capped by the server afaik

The server can enforce settings to prevent people turning things off for advantages. View distance is locked server side along with grass, you cannot disable grass in multi-player like you can in single player.

Sometimes it takes a few goes, just log out and back in or try an american server. The 'dallas' ones seem good.
