Three men stuck in a lift after curry feasthttp://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=11594669An Australian, Englishman and Taiwanese man who battled uncontrollable flatulence, 38 degree heat and 99 per cent humidity during the longest half hour of their lives.
There was no air conditioning in their metal prison and the men were soon left struggling against the humidity and the after effects of their curries.
'Hell would have been a few degrees cooler. It was more painful than I imagine childbirth would be, we were at our wit's end,' said Mr Rose.

I consider myself to be environmentally conscious. But honestly I think Greenpeace do the environment more harm then good by these ridiculous campaigns. Greenpeace deplores the agreement by the Representatives of the Parties to the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) (1) to construct one of the world's largest nuclear fusion experiments in Cadarache, Southern France. The project, estimated to cost 10bn euros, will not generate any electricity, instead it will need massive amounts of energy to heat up.
...
Fusion energy - if it would ever operate - would create a serious waste problem, would emit large amounts of radioactive material and could be used to produce materials for nuclear weapons. A whole new set of nuclear risks would thus be created. http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/press/releases/ITERprojectFrance/So much stupid, they don't even understand basic science.

A man came within seconds of being crushed to death in a compactor truck after falling asleep in a cardboard recycling cage outside a central Hamilton bar.
It is understood the man, who works multiple jobs, decided to have a nap in the recycling cage, covering himself up with cardboard to keep warm.
The driver was about to compact the load when he heard banging coming from inside his truck.
He decided to have a nap in the recycling cage.http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11531938

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/personal-finance/news/article.cfm?c_id=12&objectid=11500706She applied for and got a credit card with a limit of $500 and within a year or so she excitedly told me the bank had sent her an unsolicited letter increasing her amount to $10,000.
I was horrified, but fathers know nothing to teenage daughters, and I sneaked into her room and watched the balance grow to $10,000 over a couple of years. My father passed away and I gave my children $10,000 each and she paid off the bank. She spends 10,000 on a credit card and they blame the bank? Don't go blaming the bank. I think people need more personal responsibility. It's a persons own decision to get a credit card in the first place, and it's their decision to accepts the banks offer to increase the limit (in my experience if a bank sends me a letters asking if I want an increase and I don't respond, they will leave my limit as is). And most importantly, it's a persons own decision to spend that money. Guy needs to teach his daughter about money. And this is worse. A friend of mine was much smarter. His daughter went to university, got the credit card with a $500 limit, and the bank then increased this to $10,000. She had no job.
She hit the limit of $10,000 and the bank demanded repayment. My friend was alerted to his daughter's plight and he told the bank to "bankrupt her, and she will be out of bankruptcy in a couple of years, and a good lesson to both of you". How the hell is that "smarter"?

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/technology/news/article.cfm?c_id=5&objectid=11500605A quick search of the map by the New Zealand Herald suggest there are:
• 22861 users in Auckland (84 per cent of which are male) • 11126 in Wellington (85 per cent of which are male) • 11048 in Christchurch (87 per cent of which are male) • 4634 in Dunedin (86 per cent of which are male)
What I wonder is, do you have to be in a monogamous relationship already to sign up? Surely plenty of single people would be signing up as well.

Why aren't these a thing yet?
We have jetpacks, flying cars, hoverboards, yet we still have to carry around paper receipts as proof of purchase in case we need to return something. However they get are easily lost, fade, and always impossible to find when you need them.
When every you buy something, the details of what you bought should be held with your bank (where you can download it whenever you want), as proof of purchase. (make it opt in, for those concerned about privacy)
Something like this would be awesome, I hope to see it in a few years.

Reading through this thread on geekzone http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=50&topicid=175873As far as I'm concerned, if someone takes a computer with a part that looks like a gun through customs, then he's an idiot and deserves to get his PC ruined. But a lot of other posters are taking his side and blaming the custom officials.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11471241I don't understand why so many people are complaining. Everyone complains about the traffic in Auckland (even people not from Auckland), yet they don't want to pay anything to fix the problem. It would see an average 9.9 per cent rise in residential rates, costed at $214 for the average household. However, last night it was reported that thousands of ratepayers faced increases of more than $1000, mainly because of large increases in the latest property valuations and a big hike in the last step to a new rating system, or both.
This morning, Mr Brown told Radio New Zealand there would be a "significant" number of people who would notice an increase in their rates as a consequence of revaluation. There would also be thousands who would receive "significant decreases" in their rates as a result of the revaluation, he said.
The average increase is $214, that's nothing. Us Aucklanders spend more then that on coffee each year. As a ratepayer, I'll happily pay that if it means we'll get improvements around transport. Those people getting increases of $1000 or more, it's only because they have been paying really low rates all this time compared to everyone else, so this increase is only making them pay their fair share.
