Planes, Trains & Automobiles / Model Planes
« on: January 29, 2014, 12:05:56 pm »
Over the past year or two I've taken a real interest in aeroplanes and being reasonably close to the airport has given me the opportunity to watch them take off and land. I've found Flightradar a really cool app as well as you get to see their speed, altitude etc.
Anyway, I've recently discovered model aeroplanes and have decided to start a collection. I currently have an Air NZ 787-9 and ordered the Air NZ 777 zk-oko smaug plane, these are both 1/400.
Anyone else have any sort of collections? What brands/sizes have you found the best?

Battlefield / Re: [BF4] I know you've been asked this before but...

I often get "Game disconnected: could not join server" or "Game disconnected: no reply from the server". I've noticed a couple of aussie servers with rubberbanding when they're full meaning its almost impossible to fly jets etc. Then some servers just randomly crash.

Why do you feel the need to post it as a referral url?
mines just a search in amazon and I copied the link? Maybe its ref for reference not referral?

DOTA 2 / Re: So who plays this?
« on: January 28, 2014, 02:19:15 pm »
i played LoL, didnt think dota2 was much different so never tried it.

Worth the install?

What I've found is generally the game you start with is the game you stick with. I always played DotA and tried LoL for a bit but was always comparing and didn't like it. Then you get LoL players try DotA and they say they don't like it and stick with LoL. Saying that I know a couple who have switched from LoL to DotA.

That's pretty quick. Yeah I think the pro ones are slightly quicker and are supposed to last a lot longer than the evo ones. I'm considering buying the 250gb for my laptop. It only has one hdd slot but apparently its not too hard to remove the dvd drive and chuck another hdd in there if needed.

Sorry to say mid level matchmaking 3300 to 4400 is still broken IMO. Seem to either be dominate the other team or be dominated about the 25min mark.

Solo que had me join a 4v5 stack as well - lucky their 5 man team was bad.

I'm around 3600 and I've notice that occasionally but often the games are really close and could go either way, that's usually when I que with a team of 4 or 5 though.

If anyone was after one of these amazon currently has a sale on them. I picked up a 120gb for about $110 with shipping and a mate got the 250gb one for $210 with free shipping. Reviews I read they seem to be pretty good. Should speed up my BF4 loading a bit :D.

I've only dealt with Stephen. Anyone know if I can argue to get a replacement motherboard? It never worked from the beginning and somewhere along the line got damaged (its a tiny chip I wouldn't have noticed it when I installed so may have always been like that)

Quite the opposite.. CL has a reputation for going above and beyond and being extra helpful with RMA's!

Sending back two motherboards, one was fine and went faulty, the box was slightly damaged and they said they wont give warranty. Second one didn't work from the start and they're saying it has physical damage and won't provide warranty either.. I'm not happy, I've spent enough money there and then the first time I try return something and I just encounter all these problems...

Got myself a 550d a few weeks ago, has been a lot of fun. Did a casual photo shoot of a dance crew, which I learnt a lot about what not to do (also forgot you have to direct people etc). Have been mainly using Av, Tv and a bit of M. I'm learning about everything slowly, sometimes I manually set ISO and sometimes use auto. Haven't really had much of a play with wb, metering etc. Bought a speedlite (Canon 320ex) and a 50m f1.8 last week too. Speedlite has been fun to play with, using rear curtain etc. Annoying thing about the 320ex is to change the power of it you have to adjust in camera settings, no buttons to adjust power on it. Anyway I have a few photos here mainly arty ones, didn't really want to put up pictures of people from parties etc. Any criticism/feedback would be appreciated :).

Spoiler :
To capture the bee I would have needed a higher shutter speed?

Planetary Alignment / Earthquake Watch Update June 13th 2011

Uploaded by thebarcaroller on Jun 7, 2011
This is a Planetary Alignment Earthquake watch video, program used in this Heliocentric visual representation is Simsolarv2.0 and solar system scope

Two significant alignments play a major role on this day with Earth-Sun-Mercury and Jupiter-Venus-Mercury. It is possible that we may have a volcanic eruption on this day or a significant or a 6.5 to 7.5 magnitude earthquake.

Possible locations that could be at risk for this event are 23 Degrees or 44 Degrees South Latitude based on solar analysis. best fit locations are Loyalty Islands or Christchurch New Zealand

Heard an ex-air force guy suggest something like getting the Aussies to drop a dummy LGB down the center, think I would pay to see that.

Stream it live on the internet and I think a lot of the world would pay to watch that.

http://www.legionenterprises.co.nz Anybody know much about these guys? Things seem rather cheap, so I'd love to buy some stuff from them IF they're legit.

Edit: Guess I'll find out for myself, been told by 'NZGramps' that they're all good, so hopefully receiving my ATX modding kit in the mail very soon =D

Yup a mate and I have both purchased from them and has been fine, comes within a few days.
Also http://www.superpc.co.nz seems fine, christchurch based and delivered it to me.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles / What did you do to your vehicle today?

Why would you buy a matte black car?

Okay so I haven't been keeping up with everything these days. My mate wanted a computer and said he wanted to spend 1500 so I saw the gaming system and thought sweet perfect.

Gaming system - $1485 - not including shipping
Mobo   -   MSI 870A-G54 - $170
CPU   -   AMD Phenom II X4 955 - $215
RAM   -   DDR3 1600MHz CL9 2x2GB - $100
GPU   -   AMD Radeon HD 6850 - $310
HDD   -   Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB - $65
Optical   -   ASUS DRW-24B3ST - $45
PSU   -   Antec Neo Eco 520C 520W - $90
Case   -   Antec Three Hundred - $90
Monitor   -   ASUS VH242H - $280
Speakers   -   Creative Inspire A200 - $45
Keyboard   -   Logitech Ultra-Flat Keyboard - $30
Mouse    -   Logitech MX518 - $45

But then I saw this on trademe.. $1099 - free shipping to chch
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/Desktops/No-monitor/auction-375352391.htm
CPU: AMD Phenom II 955 Quad Core(x4) 3.2Ghz (total is 12.8Ghz) 8Mb Cache Black Edition
Motherboard: ASUS M4N68T-M V2, Nvidia Chipset
Memory: 8Gb Dual Channel DDR3-1333
HD: Seagate/Western Digital 1TB SATA II
Optical Drive: Liteon 24x SATA Dual Layer DVD Writer -Fastest Speed Available
Graphic: Nvidia Geforce GTS 450 1GB GDDR5
Audio: 8-Channel High definition Audio
USB: 4 at back 2 on top, 1 x ESATA on top as well
Network: Ethernet Port, Gigabit Lan, Broadband ready
Case: ZALMAN Z7-PLUS Solid Quality with exellent cooling system, Front 120mm LED Fan, Side/Back 120mm Fans
Power Supply: 500W PSU

Now obviously it has a crappy PSU but apart from that, it wouldn't be hard to find a monitor for that build. Whats the 450 like compared to the 6850 though? Also has a 1tb hdd instead of 500gb and 8gb instead of 4gb.. Should I recommend him this or is philos build still better in the long run?
