Title: Global Mode is gone.
Post by: Apostrophe Spacemonkey on June 24, 2015, 07:58:58 pm
Sad day. Sky, TVNZ and Media Works won.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/technology/news/article.cfm?c_id=5&objectid=11470299 (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/technology/news/article.cfm?c_id=5&objectid=11470299)

On seven sharp, Hosking said that Global mode was a way to "allow people to access content without paying". Total bullshit, we're still paying, just paying the content creators directly, instead of allowing Sky and the other networks to cash in on content they didn't even make.

I didn't even understand, most of what you could get though Global Mode (at least through US Netflix) wasn't even available in NZ on other networks.

Still have Unotelly.

It was NZ companies who hold distributing rights who probably played the card "if they watch this from an overseas source, then they're not going to want to pay for it when we eventually distribute it here".

And some fuck hole judge caved who doesn't understand digital distribution. Those distributors are also trying to protect future profits by putting a stop to it. I doubt they were losing out on anything right now.

Mike Hosking needs a bullet.

I've got Usenet. I'm happy.

He's not so bad. I tend to agree with him on many things, but not this.

Yes, I said I like Mike Hosking, I'm not going to deny it. Deal with it! He's still better then Paul Henry.

I've never really liked Hosking, but I'm a great fan of Paul Henry.

I was just about to post that Hosking is just another Paul Henry. He's there because he is somewhat controversial.

However, Paul does it to troll. Mike is just plain ignorant.

I'm a troll at heart so that's probably why I like him :-P

I also like Paul Henry. He's a cunt, but he does it in a somewhat charming manner.

Mike Hosking is just a twat

Half the shit that comes out of Hosking or any one on that 7 sharp show is a load of drivvel. I've yet to see anything technologically related that is reported on succinctly and accurately. Let alone anything without some sort of "this is geeky" style slant... TVNZ still doesn't get the technology age we live in IMO.

Thats probably because the people who still watch TV are the ones who arent living in our age... they are from the last era, where using a computer made you a geek.

Does anyone under 50 watch TV One? Serious question.

For those who want to watch the Rugby, but don't have Sky.

Quote
The 2015 Rugby World Cup will be broadcasted across numerous cable and streaming services globally. There is only one place where you will be able to stream for free - iTV. However, iTV is geoblocked to those located outside the UK. But do not worry.

UnoTelly can help you stream iTV from anywhere in the world.

With UnoTelly and iTV, you watch all 48 games live and best of all - it is absolutely free! If you live outside of UK, follow the simple instructions below to access iTV with UnoTelly.

Hola app on chrome, otherwise gtfo telly. Anybody on television who is giving their opinion on current affairs is not worth listening to. Use your own sources, the make up your own mind fucksake. They're entertainers and misleaders. Grr and fuck.

Same could be said about here.

Except you can endlessly argue with tard faces on here, and they don't get paid for their overrated opinion, nor is it an influential broadcast to hundreds of thousands of brainwashed mugs giving the impression that their opinion has more gravitas than say, an expert on any given topic. It's effectively poos in my pants as a comparison. Therefore I bypass. But hey feed your brain with idiots by all means.  Can you tell I'm having a series of bad days?

I jest, my TV isn't even connected to the aerial at the moment. I cut the aerial cable to make it shorter, then realised I'll need to get a coax stripper and crimper to make a new connection, but they cost $40 at Bunnings. So I'm just going to leave it as is.

Only thing we watched on TV was sesame street in the morning. But sesame street is on Netflix as well.

Boom, information worth knowing. Although for a child, I must admit somehow I prefer TV to a computer screen.

Anyway, I feel like I got something off my chest.

So much derp in this article.

I'll be watchy the rugby using ITV and unotelly.

New Zealand Rugby, Browning points out, is largely funded by the money it can extract from the broadcast of All Blacks matches. Illegal streaming is a clear and present danger to that income stream.

Then maybe they should provide some legal way of streaming it which we could pay for.

One reporter gave up on one, after being constantly referred to a pop-up window requesting his details. Another went as far as handing over credit card details but was still unable to access the feed.

Despite multiple assurances he would not be billed, he found his card had been charged $1.64 by the time he cancelled it, less than an hour later.

Which shows the level of intelligence of these reporters.

Apparently Stuff have a service which you can pay to stream the game.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/rugby-live-stream (http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/rugby-live-stream)

They call it Fan Pass, but it 'looks' like it is a Sky Service going by the branding so fuck that noise. The stream will probably be made up of about 11 pixels and feel like you're watching a GIF.

Yup - http://fanpass.co.nz/fans/stuff/rwc2015 (http://fanpass.co.nz/fans/stuff/rwc2015) (powered by Sky Sport).

1 - 4 day pass is $14.99, a week pass is $19.99. Which is a fucking rort. I'd expect that price if you had full access to the entire Sky Sport channel for those times.

It's ridiculously ridiculous.

I'd happily pay $15 for the month, even if it was just the rugby games. But a day? It's absurd

I'm a New Zealander, but I'm not a fan of rugby. Why? Because of Sky, sky sucks up all the rugby in NZ (as well as many other sports i.e v8 supercars), and without an alternative, the sports fan inside me withers and dies.
