I'll be making a similar thread in the coming days.

Ordered an Asus Eee Pad Transformer boasting Honeycomb 3.1.

Will be interesting to see what I have to do in order to get it the way I want it.

Uhm for sms I use handcent.

Yep I tried that. I'm not sure if you've ever used BiteSMS on iOS, but Handcent, ProSMS etc just dont compare for me.

My favourite keyboard is the gingerbread. It has tab and double space = full stop..

One thing I really like about Android is the large range of custom keyboards. I'm very happy with Smart Keyboard, though every keyboard I've tried does not have a tab button so I'm guessing its an issue with my phone. But when I think about it, I never had an issue with the stock iOS keyboard, and its autocorrect was great. The Galaxy's select/copy/paste system is very slow and hard to use.

I've spent many hours fiddling with my android and you do need far too much time to get it to exactly how you want it... However... after you have had one android phone and then move to your next one you'll be able to do everything much quicker.

I have spent many, many hours, and am pretty sure I've done all I can to try and get this thing into my good books :(

Nice to see the review/thoughts and cheers for putting it on front page Arsey.

If I'd have know it was going to be front page I'd have put some effort into editing :o

Look at http://www.villainrom.co.uk as out of all the roms I tried for my hero it was firstly the most stable/fastest/least buggy roms.

Have been looking at that for a while. Just getting a bit sick of wiping the phone, flashing a ROM, setting it up, spending the day with it, not liking it, and starting again :(

Might give it a go tonight :)

As for the Galaxy being slow- it just is. I'm guessing its more a phone issue than an Android issue. Check out this wake up lag which according to every thread I've found, cannot yet be fixed:

1/2 second is a major issue?

Ive got the Galaxy S and I love it, used both iphone and android and much prefer my Galaxy S. Never liked the Swype initially but went back to it after a while and now would never go back, I don't use it in landscape mode as I had the issue of having to use 2 hands like you mentioned. Once you are used to it though its far quicker than anything else I have used.

In 1/2 a second I can wake up my phone, check if I have any new emails, then switch it to sleep again. It would be quite annoying if it took as long as in that video.

FUCK YES.

We have the fastest most powerful phone in the world, why do we have to wait a second if we want to check the time?

Jesus Christ it drives me insane.

LOL actually to be fair the one thing that annoys me about the Galaxy is the lack of a floating time, but you can get apps for it.

In this world of fast food, angry birds, and internet porn, the human brain has evolved to have an attention span of only a tenth of a second.

Anything longer, we'd get bored and have to find something productive to do.

Kekekeke, yea its the ultimate middle ground between iOS and Android. Has serious iOS look and feel but you don't lose anything android. In the absurdly large amount of ROM's I've tried it is definitely the stand out one.

good read

thinking about getting a smart phone at the end of the year. Looks like iOS may be best for me. I am tech illiterate, not that much of a tech/PC/omg apple is bad fanboy, and also CBF having to download stuff to make my phone good.

Yes iOS sounds right for you.

And jailbreaking iOS is as simple as downloading a program and clicking the jailbreak button. Far easier than installing ROMS to customize an Android phone.

It allows you to install cydia, which in turn allows you to install other things it's like an alternate appstore, but also very much like apt. You can add software repositories that in turn allow you download crap from them. But probably the most common use is to install a thing called installous which is a pirate version of the appstore where you get all your crap for free.

Allows access to the Cydia Store which is basically like the Android Market.  It allows you to install things Apple dont want you to so you can truly customize the phone.

Officially voids warranty but if you have issues just restore to a stock firmware and they will never know. And I dont think they care, when I left my jailbroken 3GS docked on my cars windscreen on an extremely hot day and melted it, I sent it back and Apple replaced it no questions asked.

This thread only compares Android to jailbroken iOS. Stock iOS, in my opinion, is shit.

That is definitely not the most common use! Its dropkicks that use Installous that give jailbreaking a bad name,

What you've said here is exactly the thing about Android that both frustrates me and excites me. I dislike that I have to work like a developer to my hardware working to the point I want it at, but yet it also excites me that I can do that work, and be rewarded hugely for not only the current handset, but likely many in the future. It is also a thought I have about Tablets, and my iPad vs. Android Tab argument with myself continues to rage lol.

Yup it is really frustrating but I don't know how i'd react if I had that power taken away from me...

@ berg

I've never really used iOS apart from playing around on my mates phone so haven't had the full experience. I should really borrow an iphone 4 for a week/month or so just so I can give it a go. So I don't really know about the Bite SMS

One thing though from limited use of the iOS standard keyboard is that I hate the letter pop-up. I've disabled it and sure I could probably get used to it again. It's just distracting.

I went through a stage where I was flashing a new rom every couple of days. Once I found villainrom there just didn't seem a point anymore. The Miui looks interesting. Quite a clean look but I'm more minimalist and use a lot of the text type widgets.

Also what launcher do you use?

If he's using MIUI, it has its own launcher. Can get the "clone" http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/miui-launcher-clone-brings-the-miui-home-screen-to-all-android-devices/]here
IMO, Zeam is one of the best "minimalist" launchers out there.

Consdering that it's getting harder to jailbreak ios and apple are always trying to prevent it, it'd be interesting to see ios5 and how long till a jailbreaking app comes out if one does.

Its a worry that in the past few months Apple have hired Comex, one of the great iOS Dev Team who are responsible for our jailbreaks. They have also hired another prominent jailbreak developer and it looks like they are about to take Musclenerd.
