Is there any chance these will be on a telstraclear content server or unmetered at some stage? There are several games in that list I'd like to download, and with the list so large, it kinda removes the point of having much unmetered to start with - how can TelstraClear advertise as having steam as not counting towards your data cap when it's only true sometimes?

Blame Valve.. we nagged TCL for YEARS for the unmetered steam server, and then Valve decided to change how they distribute content shortly after, and the content servers don't handle the new distribution system (yet).. if Valve pull finger they might support it one day.

Hey Backfire, Valve have confirmed that they are working on that, but there is no solid timeframe for integrating http content with third party content servers currently.

The most reliable method of blocking content that does not originate from the TelstraClear Steam Content Server so far (both other content servers and http content) is by using Steam Limiter.

Are all of the games on that list only available as http, or is the list games that can be downloaded via http, and may or may not be on content servers? I ask because back when you guys first released the server and the community started making a list of available titles on your server, GTA4 was included, but I see that GTA4 is also on this list, and I'm slightly confused.


Edit: Yep, it looks like these titles are http only. Major bummer, that's a massive list.

Valve are porting existing games to http delivery as well as some new titles. Currently this is roughly 25% of the entire Steam library.

I don't suppose anyone else who bought Railworks 3 in the sale has tried downloading it? I got the first ~100MB from the TCL server, and then it cut off on me. (It's not on the list, but I understand the list is not completely up to date).

I will work on an updated list for you sure. I think by general rule, you should expect mostly everything new to be released via the new content system however.

It's a superior system which works better for the user in many reasons, the only downside to a small group of users in our region of the world where data caps aren't unlimited and ISP's provide unmetered benefits, is that right now, our solution isn't compatible.

I'll revisit this and see what we can do so we can continue to get you the benefits you expect as a gaming customer.

FWIW the logo means nothing, the only sure way it to use 3rd party tools (steamlimiter is probably the best)

I think you numbers are pretty close. Just counting games (no tools or media), we have converted over 50% of all Steam games now. The plan is to have almost all games converted by the end of the year. There are 2 types of games that can't be easily converted: .GCF games and games using hldsupdatetool for their dedicated servers. The internal project name for the new content system is actually 'Oxcart'. Currently mostly developers benefit from Oxcart, since they can upload, test and publish patches themself. Patch sizes are usually smaller since Oxcart uses delta patching. Users will see more features based on Oxcart soon, like "Steam Library Folders" which allow you to install games on any drive. More download related features will come but we have to wait until the majority of games is switched over. Otherwise the user experience would be inconsistent, with some games offering features that others don't. "

Yeah RuoskaNZ, you're correct, Valve intend to transfer practically everything by the end of the year.

The benefits to the user with patching, and the ease of delivering updates for publishers make the pros vastly outweight the cons of some users losing unmetered access for now in their eyes, and I'd tend to agree even as our usage offerings become more generous. Still... It'll be great if they can sort it out.

One of the main reasons I joined telstraclear was the "unmetered" steam downloads. Before I was aware of the HTTP distribution system i ran over my cap by ~30gb during the Steam x-mas sale of last yearthinking all my downloads were unmetered. I understand that the HTTP system is far superior to the old method of delivery but it seems deceptive to say that TC offers unmetered steam downloads when    most games are not.
I am on the 40Gb "best deal ever" plan and that suits my needs fine, apart from the few times a year i buy and download games, which run over my data cap quickly.
It would be nice if TC was either more lenient with their caps or if there was some sort of reservoir of extra data able to be used over the year for these large downloads.
