General Chat / Winning the monkey race.
« on: December 09, 2014, 08:19:05 pm »
There are many inactive users, many who only have a couple of posts and probably haven't posted in ages.

How hard would it be the cull them? Or is that not possible.

General Chat / Father of video games dead at 92

At the dawn of the television age in 1951, a young engineer named Ralph Baer approached executives at an electronics firm and suggested the radical idea of offering games on the bulky TV boxes.

tbh I had never heard of him. But I guess maybe gaming today wouldn't exist if it wasn't for him.

General Chat / Don't bother shopping at The Warehouse anymore.

The Warehouse and Noel Leeming are removing all R18 games and DVD's from their stores because "family-friendly brand values"

"The recently released Grand Theft Auto V, which contains graphic sex scenes and violence towards women from a first person perspective, has acted as a catalyst for our decision to totally exit the R18 games and DVD market,"

I didn't know they had release First-Person mode yet. I better get down to my local Noel Leeming store and spend my money on it... oh wait.

General Chat / Spacecraft lands on comet
« on: November 13, 2014, 05:56:17 am »
At 4am this morning NZ time, the ESA Philae lander made touch down on the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.

After spending 10 years attached the Rosetta spacecraft, the lander detach and descended towards the surface of the comet over 7 hours, making the first lander ever on a comet.

The comet has barley any gravity, so on touch down, the lander will shoot harpoons into the ground to attached the lander to the surface.

Other Games / Star Wars X-Wing and Tie Fighter on GOG.
« on: October 29, 2014, 10:28:30 am »
http://www.gog.com/

Star Wars: X-Wing would have to be one of my favourite space fighter games of all time, and my favourite Star Wars games by far.

I played many hours as a youngling. The game was great, varied missions, full 3d space,  nice mix of micromanagement (shifting power between shields/ engines, managing repairs, linking lasers)

Plus blasting TIE's with an X-wing is just awesome.

DRM free, so you don't have to go to page 14 of the manual anymore to get the code.

I haven't played Star Wars: TIE fighter, but I'm keen to give it a go.

For the last 80 years, Pluto has be a tiny blurry dot in the arse end of the solar system.

A year from now, we will get out first ever decent view of the dwarf planet when New Horizons arrives. The space craft will pass within 10,000 km of Pluto, taking many Hi-res pictures.

General Chat / Share Market
« on: April 01, 2014, 08:19:37 am »
Anyone where deal with shares?

It's something I would like to get into, just trying to get my head around all the technical terms.

For example, dividends https://www.nzx.com/markets/NZSX/securities/AIA/dividends

What do the terms Supp. and Imputation refer to?

And what do they mean by Final and Interim?

Say, for example, I had 1000 shares, how would I work out how much money I get in the above case?

A week back my car got a flat battery. I had to jump start it to get it going again.

Since then, my stereo has not be working (Panasonic model CQ-VD7001W).

http://www.iforce.co.nz/View.aspx?i=nyq2drow.0ev.jpg

It is powered, as you can see in the photo the lights are on, and when I press O/C the screen opens out.

However it won't turn on (nothing on screen, no sound etc).

Last time I had a flat battery I had to put the reset code in, but this time I'm getting nothing.

Any ideas?

Strategy / Homeworld Remastered
« on: March 08, 2014, 06:20:43 am »
Once upon a time, when games actually came in cardboard boxes. There was this amazing game known to many has Homeworld.

It had a good story, amazing graphics, and that was just the instruction manual, the game was even better.

One of the few games which had a 3d playing field. You could move your ships up high and attack from above. It had beautiful background graphics for the level.

Then there was a sequel, named Homeworld 2, which was also awesome.

Then for a long time, like the cold emptiness of space, there was nothing.

Until now, Homeworld Remastered Edition
http://www.homeworldremastered.com

Both games have been updated, including updated high-res textures and models, new graphical effects, and support for HD resolutions.

There will also be a Collector's Edition, containing art book, game manual, key chain and a replica mothership (see website for more details)

General Chat / Gameplanet runs like shit.
« on: March 05, 2014, 08:09:18 am »
They recently "upgraded" their site a few month back, and since then it's been shit. News articles don't display properly, text editor is fucked, and the page scrolls extremely slow.

Post if you agree. Meanwhile, I'll find a new website for my gaming news.
