Pretty sure the warrant and rego rule only applies to dealerships. Private sales have no requirement iirc. Hence the use of the " as is, where is" tagline on some private sales.

General Chat / Re: I need a new job. What are my options?
« on: March 11, 2014, 09:34:03 pm »
Was a scuba instructor, which is pretty cool, until I mention it was in dunedin and therefore fairly cold for 11 out of 12 months. Did that for 8 and 1/2 years.

Studying civil engineering now. Worked as a site engineer/ project manager for a contractor over xmas and just got offered a structural design role at a consultancy through a recommendation by the head of department.

Going back to school a little older means you have a little more drive than the average punter. You know what you're there for and you tend to focus and work hard for it. Well thats what ive found anyway.

Any further education appeal to you? Maybe a part time qualification if you cant afford to leave full time work, or a full time qual and part time work if you can afford it.

It does appeal. My only issue being that further education would mean I'd be stuck at home for another X amount of years. I'm already 26, and at this rate I'll be living at my parents until I'm 40. It makes me sad. I have various financial obligations with my daughter also, so with the combination of living costs and child costs, further education would mean more debt, less money and being stuck for longer.

There is the weight that, further education could mean a job I want at money that is good. But with this current economy, these are very much "maybes".

If someone has any light to shed on this? Feel free.

I dumped my job at 30 and went back to study. 33 now, almost done with school and have some mint job options in front of me. Best thing ive done tbh.

Its that its only 6v6 and so much of the combat is padded out shooting bland AI. I don't play multiplayer FPS to shoot AI.

Completely this

Why the fuck are there AI bots at all?

Are we heading back to BF1942 here?

Surely if there is space for bots, they could be human players instead.

Bugger waves and wind. (though they are pretty) The clunky movement feel still irks me, and i reckon they need to focus more on fixing that.

I wonder if they'll put caps on US services when you use global mode to make it look legitimate?

Not sure if any restrictions are in the plan TBH. Going by their interview on the news the other night they are just going to remove all geo restrictions on their service. When asked about the fact that New Zealand citizens would use this to access US Ebay and the likes of Netflix and the effect on Trademe and Sky etc, he just said that inevitably some New Zealanders would use the service for ways other than intended and there is no way to police it.

Its such a thin veil and I salute them for it. I can only imagine the backlash as this presses on.

Man that's worded funny.

Why are they talking as if the only people who want to enjoy US content are people coming to NZ from the US?

Its a marketing ploy. They are taking the tact that they are removing the geo restriction so overseas visitors in New Zealand can view websites from their home country rather than saying outright that they are circumventing subscription networks by allowing New Zealanders access to overseas free to air channels.

Berg - I dont normally go down this avanue, but I dont think we should discount possession by a demonic entity.

Hope you bought the extended warranty - exorcisms can be costly.

I think most F&P washers sing little tunes when you hold down a series of keys.

I dont see where they have done a 180. Those answers look like typical vague media comments that arent worth a bag of assholes.

No the Xbox doesnt need to be constantly connected, but it does need an internet connect. That supports the existing comment that it would need to log on once a day.

And as to on selling games, The answer above still supports Microsofts original plan of being able to sell to registered pre apporved retailers so MS can take their cut.

Will have to wait until "they have more to share later".]

Edit: just noticed the article SM posted in other xboxy thread. Still keeping my guarded skepticism on this company however.

General Chat / Bank Fees
« on: June 19, 2013, 02:02:37 pm »
I think even $1 for another bank ATM is too high. Its only an electronic transaction.

Addressing the point made in OP:

SM strikes me as a reasonably clued up fella, maybe smarter than the average common denominator*. Making assumptions from here, he probably earns at least medium income, but likely more and is at least financially literate enough to understand interest rates and lending. Unfortunately a fair whack of the population lack these attributes and therefore borrow to the hilt, and live week to week. To me this is the banks way of milking people who are financially stupid, and therefore IMO they are preying on the weak to feed the strong.

Its should go. (or be lowered greatly)
