Title: IPS Monitors.
Post by: Retardobot on December 26, 2012, 11:16:00 am
Hey guys.

For a while I've been using a crummy AOC Razor 24" which produces horrific colours. Its gamut favours blues.

Can someone help me out with deciding over these that I have wittled it down to? I'm not looking for perfect colour reproduction as my budget will have to be much bigger.

This is what I have so far:

http://www.playtech.co.nz/afawcs0139235/CATID=507/ID=19294/SID=523705649/productdetails.html

http://www.playtech.co.nz/afawcs0139235/CATID=507/ID=19138/SID=930288556/productdetails.html

http://www.playtech.co.nz/afawcs0139235/CATID=507/ID=19171/SID=214973156/productdetails.html

I'm liable to side with Dell because of their popularity with the Ultrasharp IPS panels they do:

http://www.playtech.co.nz/afawcs0139235/CATID=507/ID=16422/SID=875870330/productdetails.html

I'd get the U2412M above, but I'd like to keep the price point around the $300 mark.

Thanks!

Your links dont work. But my dad has an ultrasharp, and it does look amazing to the untrained eye. Much better than my IPS screen (AOC).

the panels will all be made by LG (they make almost all of the ips panels),

the LG IPS237L and dell U2412 are calibrated out of the box which should mean that they have reasonable colours,
the dell 2412 is 1920*1200 unlike the others which are 1920*1080
i would go for either the dell 2412 or the ips237L depending on budget and how important the resolution is

I hear the Dell IPS are good.
Anyone know when IPS will be available in 120hz with a low latency?

I did read a few bits like that. Seems I'll just hang on for OLED from info what I was getting.
I might just get the similar dell IPS and run two screens, don't really need IPS for gaming or 120hz for design work...

I've tried, I've built custom profiles and spent hours trying to balance the colour but there's only so much you can do with a shit panel, and without a 'calibrator' I'm at the mercy of a cold gamut.

I'm not bothered with calibrating it because I'll never get a result that I'd be happy with.

I'm sold on picking up an IPS panel in the near future.

You're just way too cultured by the Disney version of monitor performance. That's not real life.

I've been running Dell IPS panels for 5 years now and they are spectacular. I was recently looking for something new as my 2407WFP literally popped it's clogs the other day, and I just couldn't pull myself away from Dell. And now, a little boy waits.

EDIT: I wouldn't go below that 24inch model.

I think I'm going to pick up a U2412M after new years. Playtech did have it for $399 in their sales but it's usual price is only $425 where as Dell try to hock it off for $499.

Apparently the S2340L is not a true IPS, its what they call an eIPS, I suppose it's like a pseudo-IPS. But the reviews for it weren't that great (I had to make do with NewEgg user reviews, no one seemed to know much about it).

You would love a U2412M, we've done quite a few of those and they are seriously fantastic! I also have a AOC 24" IPS panel and I really highly rate it, even though it was a cheaper model.

The U2412M does seem like the clear choice.

However, I'm keen to wait for a price drop.

If you often notice flickering from florescent light bulbs/are sensitive to it I would highly recommend seeing a 2412M in person before purchasing.

I purchased one, but ended up returning it as the back-light flicker gave me a headache after 5 mins of use.

Really?

Shit, I actually do notice florescent bulbs flicker, especially when in department stores (massive ones high up hanging from the rafters).

Post by: mycoolcar on January 18, 2013, 08:56:55 pm
Yes really.

First one I got I noticed it, swapped it over with the hope that it was a fault, second one did it, ended up swapping to a cheap ass AOC TN panel and using it only as a second crappy backup screen.

Was more noticeable on whites than blacks, and most noticeable on white-greys sort of like the forum background colour, with the brightness turned up to full.

Oh so I'm not the only person in the world who can see those damn lights flickering..

People think I be crazy

(and I also leave the flouro lights in my office at work off.. people call it a cave, I call it workable)

They hum like angels! You're never lonely if you've got a florescent light.
