Do not post a new application within 120 days of the previous application. Failure to do so will result in nothing but tears. - Kayne

DayZ / Bohemia servers hacked, DayZ Standalone source code stolen
« on: May 15, 2014, 12:27:54 pm »
An extremely unfortunate event for DayZ Standalone‘s developer Bohemia Interactive seems to have recently occurred. Based on a now-removed forum thread (mirrored here) on game hacking forum Unknown Cheats, it appears that the DayZ source code may have been stolen from the Czech video game developer’s servers via SQL injection.
The alleged attacker going by the alias “DevDomo” posted evidence that he or she gained access to Bohemia’s servers by posting several images of alleged source code files and his or her method of access. I reached out to Bohemia Interactive and asked about the validity of DevDomo’s claims, and they confirmed that they have “detected an attack ” on some of their servers. They went on to say “the precise nature and scope of this attack is currently being extensively investigated.”
Since this situation came to my attention, it appears that a PDB tool for debugging the DayZ executable has been released by both DevDomo and fellow Unknown Cheats user “drwhat”. The tool may open up the possibility of new hacks and exploits for DayZ Standalone.
Bohemia Interactive confirmed with us that no user data was accessible from the attacked servers and that current developer goals and schedules for their games have not been affected. More information about the attack is said to be released as Bohemia’s investigation continues. We’ll keep you up to date on the situation.

Battlefield / BF4 Death Shield Bug
« on: April 15, 2014, 07:31:23 am »
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IRIbIMO0SY#t=146

tl;dr, a revival body is an impenetrable shield, it appears the hitbox remains "upright" so you cant hit players behind it until the body fades.

I've encountered this behaviour in game, but just blamed it on shit net code.

TL;DR

Epic have offered up full access to the Uunreal Engine 4 source code for USD$19/month subscription (and 5 of any gross royalties if you release a game with it)

Pretty damn cool of them if you ask me.

Battlefield / Dice brings 2142's Titan Mode to BF4
« on: March 04, 2014, 11:16:27 am »
Yes you read that right.

The next DLC for BF4, will reintroduce "Titan Mode", albeit based around aircraft carriers and dubbed "Carrier Assault" mode. Wasn't really excited about Naval Strike, but sure as shit am now. Also hoping this is a precursor to a released of BF2143!

Technology & Hardware / Recommended Suppliers Thread 2014
« on: February 05, 2014, 08:16:29 am »
So the old thread was started in 2008, and half the recommendations are out of date now.

Price comparison sites:
PriceSpy: http://www.pricespy.co.nz
PriceMe: http://www.priceme.co.nz/

Suppliers:
Computer Lounge
http://www.computerlounge.co.nz
Consistently rated the best computer store in NZ.  Favourite of many GetSome users. Winners of PriceSpy's "Online store of the year" last 3 years running. Top rated supplier at GPForums supplier thread. Highly recommended on GeekZone.. you get the idea. Not always the cheapest, but prices include shipping and they will pricematch if approached.

PBTech:
http://www.pbtech.co.nz/
Sometimes good prices, can be a bit hit and miss on support & RMA's. Widely accepted as a solid store however.

Playtech.
http://www.playtech.co.nz
Previously a fan favourite, still has a good reputation for price and supply but tainted by the owners dealings with Xlan and the NZ gaming community. No longer recommended because the owner appeals to the gaming market but only seems to care about profits, not truly care about gaming.

Pass.co.nz
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Listings.aspx?member=219643 / http://www.pass.co.nz
Trademe store run by one of our memberss, and longtime member of the NZ gaming community, KiwiTAZ

« on: January 31, 2014, 11:14:39 pm »
See http://www.getsome.co.nz/index.php?topic=86836.msg1535563#new

Registered an hour ago, posted link to trademe auction.

Also I've chucked up brief "BST Rules" stick, as the old one was like 8 years old still referred to Clearnet Deluxe and looks like it had been C&P'd from aussie anyways ;-)

Feel free to modify it.

Buy, Sell Or Trade / BST Forum Rules
« on: January 31, 2014, 11:13:35 pm »
Selling:
  • Try and provide as much detail as possible. Condition, receipts, picture. you get the idea.
  • Indicate your location. Town/City at a minimum, suburb for larger centers.
  • Name your post appropriately i.e FS: i5-2500K + Motherboard
  • Only sell/post items you own. Do not post items on behalf of others.
  • Update your original post so buyers know the status of the sale i.e 'sold to Prolax'
  • Don't just post links to TradeMe
Buying:
  • Do not hi-jack another person's sale/post, if you have an item for sale start your own thread.
  • The buyer is responsible for making sure items will work with their equipment.
  • If you have any issues with the seller or their items report the to the forum moderators.
Scams:

If you are suspected of scamming please be aware that your post will be deleted and your account may be suspended/banned. Administrators and Moderators of Get Some take no responsibility for any trades facilitated by this forum. Anyone committing fraud via these forums will be banned, and all relevant logs and any known personal information supplied to the police.

General Chat / Only 1/3 of Kickstarter video games deliver the game

http://evilasahobby.com/2014/01/18/kickstander-only-around-a-third-of-kickstarted-video-game-projects-fully-deliver-to-their-backers/

Pretty good reason to consider Kickstarter projects as a lottery. Don't expect to see a return, and if you do, be happy.

Titanfall / Beta coming at end of Feb
« on: January 28, 2014, 08:29:46 am »
http://www.bluesnews.com/s/148532/titanfall-beta-next-month

An image of a poster on French site Xboxygen shows plans for Titanfall beta testing starting February 14th accompanied by another image that indicates this will run from February 14th-February 19th for the Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 editions of the mech shooter. The posters indicate this is a preorder perk, saying preorders will also receive a metallic poster and a t-shirt. The site says they've confirmed this with a source at French retailer Zappos, and say the U.S. version of this program will be run through GameStop

TL;DR version:

"In general, Backblaze sees more problems with Seagate drives than the other two vendors. .... And in general the Seagate drives have proven to be less reliable overall."
"Hitachi drives have proven to be the most reliable. Their annual failure rates have ranged from .9% all the way up to 1.5%."
