Half the shit that comes out of Hosking or any one on that 7 sharp show is a load of drivvel. I've yet to see anything technologically related that is reported on succinctly and accurately. Let alone anything without some sort of "this is geeky" style slant... TVNZ still doesn't get the technology age we live in IMO.

Buy, Sell Or Trade / FS: Whole or Parts - offer away
« on: June 25, 2015, 10:13:15 am »
So, I have three PC's I'm pulling apart, or will sell as wholes. I'm gathering money to chuck these down in to a single machine, and make a small Rii style beast PC. So out the door goes everything...

PC 1:
ASUS Sabretooth X58 Motherboard
i7 9xxx 3.2GHz (LGA1366) CPU - not 100% sure on the model, as it's an Intel sample, and rocks for overclocking
24GB G.Skill Sniper DDR3 RAM (6 x 4GB 1600MHz 9-9-9-24)
Sapphire AMD 6970 2GB DDR5 Graphics Card
2 x 240GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD
Intel 250GB SSD
Seagate 2TB SSHD
ASUS Xonar D2X Sound card (I have two of these)
Corsair AX850W PSU (I have some of the other modular cables also)
Antec 920 CPU Cooler
Fractal Define R2

PC 2:
ASRock Z77 Extreme4-M Motherboard
Intel i7 3770 3.40GHz (LGA1155) CPU
16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM (4 x 4GB 1600MHz 9-9-9-24)
Sapphire Radeon HD6450 1GB DDR3 Graphics (DVI, HDMI, VGA outputs)
Corsair Force 120GB SSD
FSP PSU 750W Modular Power Supply (Gold rated)
Thermaltake DH 102 case

The third PC I have minimal details on, as I haven't quite pulled it open and sorted it, and I'm not at home at the moment to get these details, but here's what I know:
PC 3:
AMD Phenom II 1100T CPU
16GB DDR2 Corsair Vengeance RAM
Corsair AX750W PSU

8 x 2TB Western Digital Green HDD's

So if you have any requests on the above, or need to know anything, give me a yell, else I'll have to work out whether to go through the TradeMe pain....

Thanks babeses. Been a quiet work day, and Macca's with the kids tonight. So all in all as good as. The fun is next week (as well as last weekend if you haven't got me on FB), as I'm heading for another Arsey adventure.

General Chat / Re: Life Changing Decisions
« on: March 28, 2015, 12:12:01 am »
I'm a bit late to this party, but I've been through many twists and turns in the last 12 months. So here's my story for you Fairy (albeit you've seen some of it via FB).

Split from now ex-wife, and battled with life for 6 months or so. Got to the other side of that, and started to deal with how life was going to work, and started down a fairly intense path of wanting to lose weight. I lost over 50kg in 20 months, and after a bit of a slump in the last few months, am back to the goal weight. Total loss is circa 55kgs, and I'm clocking in at 85kg  (started at over 140kg, and 85kg was always the goal), and ready to hit the gym. Most amazing of all (and the reason for the weight loss) is I can actually run again, and I love it. I'm entering running comps, and trail running (short course) like a boss. I have too fast a pace to do long distance at this time, so am just managing through what I can over short courses, and generally enjoying it.

The gym goal will just be to push through a few personal goals. I've done the bodybuilding thing in my younger days, and the regiment of food and gym is not something I want right now, so am content steadily building over a longer timeframe as I want. I've got a personal goal I'll go for, and that is how I go about doing things.

I've managed to get 50/50 custody of my kids, and I've also managed to see a whole new world out there. I've been scarce here because I've really immersed myself in to Ingress as my outlet of choice, and really enjoy it - it keeps me active, keeps me exploring, and is an awesomely social game. Very much like the multiplayer games of old - you meet people, you talk games, and you learn about their lives.

Craigor said something early on in this thread which was quite profound - it was something along the lines of 'you don't know what you're missing out on, until your eyes are opened to it', and that is what has happened to me. Once I split from my ex, I realised what I wanted, what I wanted to do, who the person I wanted to be with in the future was, and the things I wanted to achieve over time. I met someone late last year that really changed my views again, and is an amazing human; we instantly clicked, but at the same time it was a relationship destined for a problem as she was already heading overseas. Nonetheless, we did the relationship thing, had a ball, and I regret nothing of it.

It's at this point I'll say the two things I have taken on in my journey(s):
1. Keep learning. Learn what you did wrong. Learn what you did right. Learn why you did things. And learn from the mistakes.
2. Never regret. Regret is a wasted, negative, bullshit emotion. It achieves nothing; it cannot solve problems, and it cannot be fixed. Don't regret what you did, just learn from it. Don't regret that something happened, just make sure it doesn't happen again.

If anyone wants to chat about motivations, attitude changes, goal setting and achieving, or generally shifting mindsets - feel free to hit me up (FB me if you have me, or add if you don't).

Technology & Hardware / Re: PC component value vs. whole rig sale?

I'll get the media PC details. One is actually a really bloody amazing machine, and the other is just a shitty dual core one for the kids (lol). Both have basic GPU's from memory, but I'll deets in this thread soon.

Yeah, this is where I am heading in my thoughts... I'll take a decent hit with Trademe fees as well, let alone the general fuckwittery of Trademe users smashing my sanity...

Technology & Hardware / PC component value vs. whole rig sale?
« on: February 16, 2015, 01:48:20 pm »
Hey dudes,

I'm about to sell of my old PC, and curious as to thoughts on price on the parts and whole, and which way is the best way to go:

Fractal Design R3 Case
Corsair AX750W PSU
Intel i7-970 CPU (Quad with HT 3.2GHz) (LGA1366)
24GB (3 x 8GB) G.Skill RAM
Antec Kuhler 920 CPU Water cooling unit
ASUS Blu Ray Combo drive
Samsung DVD Combo drive
Sapphire AMD 6970 GPU
ASUS Sabretooth X58 Motherboard
ASUS Xonar D2X Soundcard

I also have a couple of other Media Centre PC's which I'll also be getting rid of, but wanting to get a gauge on whether I'm better to break them up, or try to sell off as whole machines... Ideally I'm trying to avoid multiple TradeMe transactions (well ideally I'll avoid TradeMe altogether).

Read this as "Getsome Auckland meat" saw it was posted by SM, figured it matched.
Saw it was "GetSome Auckland meet", am still waiting for mods to change it to "GetSome Auckland meat"

I wouldn't want to disappoint Xeno. So, done. :P

Anyone else use this? And if so, what recipes you using?

For those not aware: ifttt.com, it's an if then else scenario builder for various triggers and results you want to build. For example, if I take a photo on my iPhone, I can upload it to SkyDrive. Or when I get to work, mute my Android phone.

I'm in AKL for the day on Friday, will be based in central. MAY be able to sneak away for lunch if anyone works in the area. Feel free to PM for cell number

I'll be in town down at Vector, so would be available for lunch.

Also, keen for Sunday, so name a time and place. Again, I'll be at Vector all weekend, so if Britomart is an option, then roll out?

Only a fool goes that way.
Through the gorge. That's boss mode.

Karangahake FTW. We got stuck behind some douche on the way there for half of it, but on the way back it was dreamy.

It was a good impromptu trip. I'll be doing a few more over the coming few weeks for some time away from the normal stuff.

15
I drove to Tauranga and back yesterday.

That is all.

Good shit mang. keep smashing dem smurfs. tears taste goooood.

Hit the L8 just before the last cycle finished - popped a couple of decent sized fields and covered my local Lake (Pupuke) to get me to 8. Now the problem is farming for L8 resonators, because we have a real L8 farm issue up here.

Moved.

I'm completely undecided and unexcited by the result of this election. I feel that National will get in anyway, so then I question where I should put my vote given I don't wholly agree with how they're running the country, but do I agree with the way others might run it in lieu of them doing it...

General Chat / Re: Shame on you PB Tech - your anniversary sale is a sham!
« on: September 10, 2014, 05:31:41 pm »
Awesome.

PB Tech is a scummy place to shop. I visited their Botany store (do they have a Botany store? Is that where I was? I dunno, I was probably high) and was eyeballed by 3 different staff as I strolled through the shop. On top of that, I've never had a decent experience with them as a customer. Another store who have run out of fucks to give when it comes to satisfying customers, and instead treat you like cattle.

I agree with this - this is my experience with them as well. Maybe it's our good looks and strong whiteness Rii...

So two and a half weeks ago I dropped my Mac. My brand new MacBook Pro. It was literally just 2 months old, albeit a refurbished high spec model off the Apple website. I took it in to iStore in Takapuna and showed them my somewhat beaten up MBP, and asked them the cost to repair such a thing - to which they said, just buy a new one, or try for an insurance claim if your policy allows.

When I bought a new car recently, I switched from State to AA Insurance - both contents and car insurance. In doing so it cost a little bit more, but by God it was easy - all done over the internet while I was in a meeting at work. Literally, I didn't have to speak to any fucker. It was amazing, and exactly how I think insurance and finance should be these days. The ease of signing up, combined with a big NZ brand, and a great rating, I was well happy. So I rang them up and stated my case, "dropped Mac on concrete, shit's fucked" - turns out AA has accidental damage cover for retards like me. State didn't when I looked at my old policy (thank fuck I switched).

I was informed that PB Tech was their preferred supplier for repairs, and as a result I was to take it in to a local store and they would assess it accordingly. So I did. I was given a tracking number, and PB has an online system you can check to see what the status of your job is. I checked on this regularly across the first 48 hours, and the case progressed swiftly. I was even given a 3-5 day timeframe for the repairs to occur. I was almost thinking this was too good to be true.

I dropped it on a Monday, and was hopeful that I might even have it back by Friday (if the 3-5 day turnaround was the target they had stated), or maybe even a Saturday pick up. The weekend came and went, and before I knew it, it was Wednesday. I followed up with PB, and the rather abrupt Asian lady told me nothing more than what I could already see online. So I rang up on Thursday, and got the very same response following which I rang AA.

The AA dude handling my case hit it at pace, and yelled at some Asians. They informed him that the parts were to arrive on Monday, and that it would be repaired with 24 hours thereafter. Sweet - Tuesday pickup/delivery of my beloved MBP after which I would then have to rigorously check it's stability. So I left it be for the weekend and waited. Tuesday arrived and I forgot that it would be back to me until around 2pm and I realised. I brought up the job tracker on PB's site, and lo and behold it was still "job in progress".

Fucking shit fuck. I rang the AA, and spoke to the awesome dude handling the claim, Martin. He said he had literally just got off the phone to them, and there was a problem. They hadn't checked the logic board or otherwise for the two weeks they had it, and rather had just gone for the replacement shell to fix it. As a result, once they'd put it together, the machine actually had problems. Martin proceeded to inform me that he had already spoken to JB HiFi, and that they had a replacement machine in stock at a few stores, and a JB HiFi person would be in touch.

I picked up a brand new MBP yesterday. It is all up and running right now. I got an upspec'd version from the refurb version I had, with the machine being an i7 2.5GHz CPU, and 1GB GPU where the previous was an i5 2.3GHz, and 512MB GPU. All other specs are the same. Oh, and because I only gave PB the laptop, I got to keep the power adapter, so now I have two.

tl;dr - I dropped my laptop, PB Tech service area are retards, AA Insurance are fucking awesome, I have a new better laptop.

Or you could come to Auckland, and we can party time.

This.

And make sweet sweet love. Arsey-Retardo love.

the most retweeted photo ever when Ellen posted it. But as we told you, Bradley Cooper actually owns the shot because he took it.

Just another reason why Bradley Cooper is legendary.

If it were me I would go after Apple. It's their system. This is the very reason why I dont own an apple phone. Why waste time hiding in on Cloud services? Just leak them yourself.
Fairy is right.

I'm confused as to why Apple isn't getting lawsuits thrown at them already due to their kindergarten level cloud security.

Gotta say, as much as I use Apple devices, you have to wonder when they'll sort out some sort of 2FA. Google Auth is such a confidence booster, and in fact any rolling code authenticator is pretty good (battle.net has their own to use to login, lastpass uses Google's as just a couple of others that I have). The extra features they plan to come out with means they should really have this atop their list of priorities, rather than the likely attitude they have which will be that arrogant "it's your password, you can make it a 48 character long jumble of keyboard mashing".

*sigh*

24
Craigor, while we all Tinder it up from time to time, you should get on the Grinder for a social experiment. Because, a) I really want to know how dodgy it is, and b) I want to know how crazy Whangarei can be with it's homosexuality. That is all.
