Okay, I had a wander round Auckland last night, and am generally hacking all the portals, and trying my luck elsewhere to learn the game. It's pretty interesting, and definitely does what you think you won't get sucked in to - that is, you start straying off your run/walk line to find the portals... Even if it's just a hundred metres so you come in to range to hack a portal lol.

I'm still getting the hang of it, but overall, do like and am enjoying. I'm Enlightened, of course.

Other Games / Hearthstone - Naxx time
« on: July 22, 2014, 03:37:45 pm »
Hey all,

If you're a Hearthstone player, you'll know perfectly well that overnight tonight the first expansion comes out. I'm not 100% sure on times, but I'd imagine with most other Blizzard releases, it'll happen in the early hours of the morning our time.

If you have been under that rock, crawel out and take in the cards to halt your Miracle Rogues, Shockadins, Hunter Zoos, and general shit-tardery that has crept in to the classes that seem to see them stall as a particular play style for most players.
Here's a good summary on Gamepedia.

Dat feel when the Manawatu Turbos advertise their website I designed a couple of years ago, only to find out it's an absolute train crash due to them hiring a newb in-house designer who doesn't know how to dev and butchers the entire layout.

www.turbosrugby.co.nz

Holy balls it's a mess.

Um, notwithstanding the fact the background image is fucking ginormous... WTF at all the space... Somebody done goofed their layout something chronic...

The anchors don't go to the right place, and in general it doesn't snap to the anchors, it just sort of auto scrolls at Homer Simpson pace...

I have a question for all - we're obviously going to have a competitive element, and also (as any LAN event should) a social element also. What games would those who'd play the competitive side like to compete in or watch? Obviously we have a list, I just want to cross check to see if any others come in to consideration!

Not gonna lie, pretty excited about LAN stuff - glad you guys are all keen on it.

I just keep playing this in my head:

So a bit of disclosure - I used to bodybuild, so am fully aware of the changes, the nutrition, and all the similar elements. I started the epic journey to lose the weight I was previously carrying, and had put on in February last year. The end of this month signals 18 months since I started, and I am 3kgs away from my goal weight of 85kg, and a total 50kg loss.

The change to Keto has been quite simple, as it has been a pure extension of activity I have been doing for the last 12-15 months. A lot of that revolved around the removal or reduction of carbs anyway, and in particular bread, and potatoes (I'd really only have small amounts of rice, and the kumara). So the extension of full carb removal (and explicit counting) along with sugar removal has been a very interesting one; now and then you feel like shit, but overall, I personally feel I am a lot better off for it.

I'm going for the 85 before the end of the month, and finding little gems like Quest protein bars, and a new love of Kale chips, and the fact I love eggs, and have shifted to their delicious goodness with a swift motivation has been excellent. This weight loss doesn't have to be boring, and is also an amazing learning process - I've enjoyed and hated it all at the same time!

Hey all,

So in the background of this fair site, we've been working away. It may look like a static site of just a forum, but changes and implementations are afoot, and we're trying our best to re-establish thew gaming communities in NZ with a home they can all congregate to - as big of a task as that may seem.

As a reminder, the 5 directors of Get Some Ltd are myself, Craigor, DV, osiRiS, and prolax, and we've all worked together for a decent amount of time to know how each other works, what our strengths are, and what our crossover is. I mainly look after the general project dealings, Craigor & DV look after all the servers hardware & base set ups, as well as the web sites, prolax does all the design and prettiness, as well as the site look and feel, and osiRiS makes sure the forums, and game servers are sorted.

I'm really pleased to finally be able to say that we're working alongside Digital NatioNZ and in conjunction with the September 28 and 29 expo we'll be hosting a LAN. This will be a combination of a pro competitive event, and a full social set up and will be at Vector Arena, overlooking the Digital NatioNZ and Gadget, Gizmos & Technology Show.

This has been announced today, and given the weekend just gone would have marked the typical time that we would have seen a major LAN event, it's party time for sure. We're really pleased to be able to be involved, and hopefully be ready to bring some gaming awesome back to these shores in a fully competitive event alongside a social atmosphere, but just as importantly, inside a fully tricked out expo! It's been three years since we ran our last event, and this next one is the revival of good things to come.

So, what next!?
Tickets for the show will be available next month, and although this is quite late in the piece for the LAN event, we're working on our side of things for registration and the likes to ensure we know who's going to come, and what games will be getting the most support.

We're hoping to update the site at the end of the month with some changes including a few customised bits & pieces. We hope you'll support both these changes, and the upcoming event which is only 10 weeks away, and will be all sorts of amazing at the same time.

Questions!?

Sports / Fitness / Ketogenic Diet
« on: July 14, 2014, 04:07:09 pm »
So, I started this at the beginning of July. Slowly edged in to over the first few days before fulling immersing myself over the last 10 days. So far so good, and after a weekend of so many sweet treats being at my disposal, I thought I'd just post up my own amazement at my self control.

For those unaware or unable to Google, a Ketogenic diet effectively removes sugars and effectively all carbs from your diet with the view that your body will then burn the fats rather than any sugar or their carbohydrate containers you are inserting. The effects are obviously weight loss, but there are other benefits which for me now I'm through that first horrible week of feeling like shit is an alertness, and clarity in thinking, and generally feeling better.

Anyone else done this, or the Atkins diet (which is in effect Keto's induction phase), or anything similar?

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't love my kids to death, it's just that after a weekend of shit weather, and sick little girls on the back of holiday boredom, I'm looking forward to my Monday & Tuesday off. Only they're not, because tonight I have to work. And tomorrow night I have to also work on non-chicken stuff...

That is all.

Maybe it's the fact we live in New Zealand, and are a bit more forward thinking and carefree, but why am I supposed to give a shit about the worst kept secret of Ian Thorpe's life in that he's gay. I get that it's a big thing for him, but why does the media have to tell us all and make it a big thing... Are we seriously now giving two fucks about people's sexuality...?

So what grinds my gears? The fact that we think 'news' is someone coming out publicly about their sexuality. No fucks are given. I like boobs and vaginas, Craigor likes dick - whoopdieshit.

Technology & Hardware / Re: Python Question
« on: July 14, 2014, 01:32:04 am »
Of course if stress is the issue, and you're alleviating pressure on script server by putting it on the db server... make sure the db server can handle it first (lest you're merely transferring a problem).
And this seems to be exactly what the problem is... transferral of a problem from one space to another. And potentially putting it to the dbase server will cause more issues!

« on: July 13, 2014, 11:27:23 am »
So annoying - all the retardery is starting to shift from Indiegogo to Kickstarter. Now there's people wanting funding for Death Stars, computers, making sushi, and driving cars... So much more shit to sift through to find legitimate products...

« on: July 13, 2014, 10:56:30 am »
Yeah, when I asked the developers, they said they were trying to take some of the load off the application server, and apparently the scripts are reports... I am still perplexed as to why they're doing it, and have asked for a specification on the reason. Thanks for the info guys, combined with the above and a bit of reading and googling, I'm happy I'm asking the right questions.

Technology & Hardware / Python Question
« on: July 08, 2014, 02:03:48 pm »
Devs at work looking to change python scripts, so they are in the database... Question is, why would they not be in the dbase, and what is the advantage of moving them to the dbase?

Thanks dudes!
