Technology & Hardware / HTC One vs Galaxy S4 - Which one and why?
« on: March 27, 2013, 09:35:43 pm »
After checking out various reviews I'll definitely be going HTC One over the S4

I have no interest in a replaceable battery and SD card slot so its not even a question looking at everything else - I have an S1 and my last work phone was an S3, and the plastic feel doesn't do it for me.

Combine that with a camera which does what a smartphone camera should but previously couldnt do well, take good shots in low light situations and I am keen as

Obviously the HTC is due mid early-mid april - Noel Leemings has it in XT for $999.99, but of course its the easter sale so 20% off.

Obviously the 20% off doesn't usually apply to preorders but after talking to Noels today in store apparently I can buy two out right tomorrow at $800 each and they'll ring me when they come in

Check out the techno buffalo review if you have't already

"The HTC One is the first smartphone in a long time that we’ve been drop dead excited to use every single
day during the review period. We’re still in love with it and carrying it day-to-day, because it offers so many
features that can’t be found in any other product on the market right now. From the stellar camera and its
highlight reels to the aluminum body and stellar screen, the HTC One offers a truly first-class experience.
HTC didn’t only hit this thing out of the park, it hit it into orbit, where it will aggressively compete with
Samsung’s Galaxy S4. It’s so close to perfect we’re awarding it a well-deserved 9.5 / 10 and an editor’s choice.

Technology & Hardware / Seedbox?
« on: March 19, 2013, 12:02:30 pm »
As codex said feral is excellent, I know there are some cheaper alternatives now but the three different boxes I have had with them were trouble free, and their service was good.

A seedbox is definitely the way to go if your connection is shaped, it worked well the week I was on slingshot (250ms aus gaming at night? suck my dick) and I was getting line speed on my VDSL connection from England.

These days I have terabytes of upload on everything bar what.cd (which is still 600gb, plenty of buffer ^_^) so I have no need anyway.

That and the netflix cometh

Here's a couple of pics of my lady (yes its a Japanese import with rims, subwooofers and turbos, don't lynch me)

Here she is hiding in the bushes like a Japanese tiger

And here she is looking stunner in a concrete jungle

I want to sack her out a bit but I am considering just getting larger rims, a little clearance is always nice and if I put 19's on I can tuck the wheels a little and still be safe in driveways.

Serious?

Might have a deeper look in my area

I live in Tauranga and I figured the Polytech would be the only ones with courses, full time 36 hours p/w or part time if you are emplyed at a garage and have done a year full time.

Not ideal lol

Nice work

I actually really want to learn the automotive trade for my own purposes at home but there's no such thing as a part time mechanics course unfortunately

Well, this was yesterday, but I cleaned out the interior of my car and took it to Mad Soundz Tauranga to have a 4 gauge amp kit run through to the boot of the wagon.

I have always run my own kits but this car is far too nice for me to risk screwing anything up - cost me $160 all up to get 4 gauge and RCAs/power control run, along with my amp controller which they put through the centre console and affixed in a nice position with double sided tape. Very nice having amplified speakers and subs in the boot again.

Next was to set up my $18 trademe mount for my tablet - I wasn't sure that it would be any good but as it turns out it isn't that flimsy at all, and mounted so the bottom support rests on the edge of the dash (so it doesn't scratch though) means a tight and secure fit. It sits at a really good height too, the tablet bottom sits just above the centre vents and I can see over and around the tablet when its in easy as.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles / ***NOTE ABOUT INSURANCE***
« on: April 26, 2012, 12:46:57 am »
None of the usual's wanted to know about me, Clic and NAC were going to give me insurance but it was going to be pretty expensive

Amazingly, even though I have lost my licence three time in the last 5 years State insured me (age 23) for $860 with a $900 excess across the board

Car is a 2003 Legacy GT E-Tune (In other words a twin turbo 280hp GT-B with lots of cosmetic shit and a short shifter) manual with exhaust, non standard subbie rims, sounds etc - Insured for $13,900 (their valuation) even though I got it for $10,000

Only has the standard Subaru semi-alarm with immobiliser too

Nice work Codex

Technically this happened yesterday - but I got two new tyres for the Skyline and prayed the rims weren't buckled.

Why?

Because some cunt ran me off the road in a 70k area - actually pulled into my lane and forced me off the road and I hit the median with such force both tyres popped and some suspension work will be in order.

Both rims are ok though which at this point is a bloody miracle

Cheers mayhem

In other news - my Skyline can go fuck itself

I am officially saving for a 2005 or newer double cab 2wd Hilux so I can bag it and stick rims on it. I was never a fan of air bags because they just seem wanky but for the purpose of being able to cruise around extremely low and then travel on open road/in and out of driveways at a sensible height.....well if I can achieve the following I will smile at everyone that calls me a wanker

So it will be similar to this....
