General Chat / What I've been working on.
« on: January 25, 2015, 04:19:45 pm »
Hey dudes
Just thought I'd show you the product the company i'm working for is producing.
In short its a way to download full games for free and then play those games for a few hours as a trial, after which you can decide to buy the game while still in-game and then continue on playing.
It's sorta like Steam Free Weekends but available all the time.
We are still in Beta and building a catalog, feel free to give it a crack and provide me with any feedback.

Any information on errors or issues you have or average download speeds would be great!

I'm got most of it covered but they want me to come up with some sorta little test to weed out the noobs, what is the industry standard for a basic test?
We pretty much need a generalist who can do Django/Rails some php and the general web shit.

My hometown of Invercargill has always been a bigot's paradise and it's pissed me off my whole life.
I've love to name and shame this chump so if anyone knows people in Invercargill pass this on.

The NSA has had direct access to your personal data stored with Apple,Google,Facebook,Skype,Microsoft since 2007 and the US Government is currently defending this.

General Chat / Meanwhile in Georgia
« on: May 17, 2013, 10:34:32 pm »
So there was an anti-homophobia rally scheduled today in the capital of the Republic of Georgia where I am working.
My organisation was sending some observers because there was talk of an anti-gay rally being organised by priests of the church here.
Afew hours before the time of the rally a large group of clergy and followers walked down the main street and stopped right outside our office and informed us that we were enemies of Georgia and our organisation will be destroyed.

About an hour later I walked towards the area where the anti-homophobia people were forming up I saw the biggest mass of police I have ever seen in my life.
They were standing in-front of a crowd of thousands of people standing with priests in their cloaks holding anti-gay signs.
After getting permission from of the rally organisers the police let me and my group pass from the anti-gay section into the anti-homophobia section and then 10 minutes later this happened.....

Apparently the windows of the bus in the video got smashed and the people inside got hurt.

I ended up having to run and hide inside a mobile phone store as the angry mob tried to attack anyone supporting 'the gays'.
I am back at work now with the mob is still walking around the main streets chanting bigoted shit.

Very depressing.

Technology & Hardware / Web Dev question
« on: April 04, 2013, 07:30:53 am »
Hey smart people I have a random question.

So i'm doing a small side project for a friend that involves allowing people to SMS to a certain number that feeds messages into a database and then displays the messages on a website at the certain time.
There will also some be pictures that will be displayed at the same time as the messages in sort of a slide show fashion.
My mate would like to be able to deal with the slide show stuff on his side without me having to do it so he can control the feel.
So this all smells like flash to me but he has no skills in this and wanted something 'simple' that allows him to create picture transitions are there any other options?
Personally i'd like to just do this myself using abit of javascript there is probably some library that has already deal with this.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Intellectual Discussion / Israel/Palestine conflict
« on: August 27, 2012, 07:10:00 am »
Alright lads the forums are a bit dull at the moment and I'm currently living in the West Bank so figure why not open this can of worms again.
The last 4 months have been a big eye opener for me, there is a lot of subtle shit going on here that doesn't make international news.

From what I can gather the Israeli Government continues to expand current settlements and actively support the creation of new ones referred to as 'outposts'.
The 2 state solution is a total scam due to Israel currently doing the complete opposite of what it should be doing if it was serious about it.
The military controls everything in the west-bank, they constantly go into areas they are supposed to be under PA control and the areas they are legally allowed to control are vast.
The status quo is in Israels favour and is generally working for them so they have no interest in any serious negotiations.

Meanwhile Israel is under increasing international pressure as the UN nations by a huge majority disagree with Israeli policies, they have lost Turkey as an Ally and may lose more to the Arab spring, such as Egypt.
The boycott movement is also gaining momentum with South Africa requiring labeling on Settlement products and some European countries expressing interest in doing the same.

My daily life is relatively normal apart from seeing military everywhere. I have to get my passport checked and sometimes questioned by the IDF at stationary or mobile checkpoints and everyday f15's and f-16s fly over my house.
I even saw what must have been dogfight training between 6 or so fighter jets right over my head when I was in the desert one night.

Here are some of my more interesting pics.
