Ah well, seems I have finally found a MIUI rom that is nicer than virtuous, bulletproof, mainly because it is super stable, uses naff all ram, lets me configure the oc/uc voltages, and lets me configure the auto brightness levels.

Don't like the lock screen though and can't configure the security timeout >_<

Really depends on what they do with the display.

I'm fairly addicted to the S2's big AMOLED screen which seems to be almost immune to fingerprints.

I'm quite content with Android running MIUI rom. I no longer miss things like rotation animations. But I'm still feeling my only advantages over jailbroken iOS are live wallpapers and notifications on the status of my domino's pizza appearing in the status bar.

Still not happy with the clunky texting and desperately miss the range of accessories and car docks.

So we'll see what Apple can do...

In many ways the app draw is a better analog to the iPhone's home screen than the Android homescreens are. As I never had the opportunity to assimilate into the Apple hive-mind, I'd never gotten use to the iPhone layout, thus I think my transition into the android OS was much easier.   The first thing to do is bin all the pre-loaded home screens and build your own. It's super easy to do and if you wanted to you could probably emulate the iPhone layout pretty closely.   I'm surprised that you thought the Galaxy S2 felt cheap. That back-plate is atrocious, but other than that it seems solid to me.

The Apple keyboard is horrendous compared to the keyboards you can get for android. SwiftkeyX is incredible, and the only reason not to get is being too much of a fatty to go without a coke one day.

I would disagree, and find the iOS keyboard is one of the major things I'm missing.

I have tried multiple android keyboards, for at least a week each, including swiftkeyx and swype.

I'm not sure whether its just my years of typing on the ios keyboard, but I find it far better at guessing what I'm trying to say, and guessing what letter I'm trying to hit than any of the android keyboards.

But the most frustrating thing on android is typing in a web browser. Half the time the screen isn't where I want it to be, so I can't see what I'm typing.

I'm continually frustrated typing on Android. Typing problems are one thing I never noticed on ios.

Now I'm sorry if that doesn't make sense. I just spent about 10 mins typing it on my S2 and I'm over it.

And now that I'm back on my laptop, some more things I find frustrating with Android keyboards- text selection.

On all Roms I've tried, selecting text for cutting or copying is far more difficult than on iOS. Putting the damn curser precisely where I want it is a mission- despite the S2's very large screen.

So if I type out a paragraph, read through it and find a mistake- going back to fix it usually takes 3 or 4 attempts and becomes more frustrating than its worth. I guess the iOS magnifying glass method is probably patented, but it makes cursor positioning and text selection as incredibly fast, easy and intuitive as it should be.

Keyboards and text editing are one of the main reasons I want to go back to iOS.

Nothing worse than losing 33-50% of your screen to a virtual keyboard or have it in the way when you don't want it to be popped up.

If keyboards and screen real estate are of such important you could've gotten a smart phone with a physical keyboard, there are a few, and I can tell you it really increases the usability of sms, email, browsing and more. My k/b has functions that provide numerals/symbols/arrow keys, selection/cut/paste, and customisble buttons.

yea i hate the precision of android's text selection BUT what i do is just double tap the word and retype it. easy. HTC desire running MIUI with gingerbread keyboard.

When my iPhone 4 arrived I was shocked. Its tiny! But it didnt take long to realise a major problem I had with the Samsung - the screens just too fucking big.

After a few hours of using the iPhone I couldn't even tell that the screen was smaller. I cant remember what I was trying to achieve with that huge screen. Why was it necessary? It just made the phone harder to use. Now I can fap while browsing different porno websites at the same time.

So I think my Android experience was tarnished slightly by my choice of phone. Shit the iPhone feels good. Its so heavy and solid. The battery life is exceptional, and I'm finishing the day with 60% compared to about 10% on the Samsung.

I was worried that coming back to iPhone, it wouldn't be the same. I needn't have worried. There's not a single thing I miss about Android.

I have iTunes back, I have the App Store back. I know that everything in the App Store will work on my phone. I know every review on the App Store is from New Zealand. The games are far superior.

Its smooth, its pretty, I can dock it in my car, and it just fucking works.

I love iPhone.

Fair enough. I went from a jailbroken 3GS to a SG2 the day it came out. I was so excited I opened it up and set it up on the bus on the way home. I registered my gmail account and ... and that was all I had to do.

You can keep itunes, I will keep the flimsy backplate attached to my SG2.
external storage with straightforward usb access and no mothertrucking itunes is all I need

I hope I never have to use iOS again, it doesn't even compare really. The iOS interface feels clumsy after using miui's.

Its been almost two years to the day since I first, regrettably, delved into the world of Android.

"Its the superior OS" they told me. "Its now matured" they said.

They were wrong.

The Samdung Galaxy S2 and the poor excuse for an OS it came with were pieces of complete and utter shit.

But curiosity has once again crept in, and I already know the impending iPhone 5S will be an iPhone 5 with a better CPU and camera, which does not interest me at all.

So I bought this:

So far I've had it about an hour, and unlike the Galaxy S2, I am loving this thing already. It feels good and solid in the hand. It looks sexy as fuck. The screen is incredible. And everything scrolls smoothly!

Its early days, but for someone who has not touched Android for 2 years let me tell you this- its come a very long fucking way.

Samsung's shitty Tweak UI or whatever the fuck its called is an abortion. My GF has a Note 2 and whilst it's a good device, Samsung's bloatware constantly puts the Note 2 on its knees. I'm not sure about HTCs Sense UI which is version 5 on the One I think.

Vanilla Jellybean or ROM for me.

Good to see you're enjoying it!

I had planned on writing this review over a few weeks while I took time to adjust to the new OS and let it grow on me.

But fuck it, I can say right now that its fantastic and I wont be going back to iOS for the foreseeable future. Stock HTC Sense is great. The only tweak I want to make is to make the 'HTC' logo a button, which it isnt by default for some incredibly stupid reason.

So if you're a long time iOS fan who demands nothing short of perfection- now is the time to buy an HTC One.
