Shit, not shit. Whatevers. I voted, nothing changed. Situation: Normal.
NZ major parties are basically the same thing with a different colour, so the only thing we're really voting for is some DSL skins.

The Maori Party got severely punished for shacking up with National. They will probably never recover.
United Future is gone.
ACT is still fucking here. The entire electorate of Epsom should be forbidden from voting.

Less Immigrants
More Weed
A Prime Minister who cannot be removed until their term ends

There are no downsides to this.

It's not the immigrants I'm concerned about.
It's the ones that only immigrate with their money, not their person.

Regulation around that rather than flatout xenophobia would be nice :>

I'm concerned about the immigrants, big part of why I voted for NZ First, and I don't think it's xenophobic.

We should be choosier about who we let in, English skills, relevant and needed work skills, assets and cultural fit should all be boxes that must be ticked for residency.
We should limit the numbers to sensible levels so that our infrastructure is not overburdened.
We should introduce a citizenship test, and be choosier again about who we let become citizens.

NZ is a great place to live, which is why so many people want to come here, and we can and should share our blessings and welcome people in, but it must be done in such a way that it doesn't ruin what we have.

Yeah, I didn't mean to say they're not valid concerns. Just that the focus on such a topic can quickly turn into (and is often marketed as) xenophobia. Shock tactics bring eyes 'n all that.

Yes to the first two, no to the last two.

If someone is coming here to work in an industry where there is high demand to full a skill shortage, the only asset they need is their work skills. I can't think of any other assets which would be desirable.

I couldn't care less about cultural fit. What is the NZ culture anyway? Rugby and drinking? Because I certainly don't fit into that and I was born here.

I don't mean rugby and drinking by cultural fit, although they could be part of it.  I mean being friendly, getting to know your neighbours, being polite, being on time, not mutilating your child's genitals, not marrying your child off at a young age, not thinking it's okay to sexually harass women in bars, not tipping, not haggling for prices, and generally following societal norms here..

Also you don't think assets are important? We let in people without proving they have the means to support themselves all the time, and wonder why we have so many problems with over-stayers. Equally we also let in people who have lots of money but don't fit our culture or have skills that benefit our society.. Neither group should be allowed in.

The only migration we should allow is skilled, English speakers with money in the bank and and before they can become citizens they should have to pass a citizenship test that demonstrates they understand NZ culture.

NZ culture test

Q1. If you have a box of 24 beers, and you can drink 3 beers an hour, how long will it take to get shitfaced before going home and smacking up your partner?
