Same with Saints and at half time in their 7th game, they are leading the Falcons 28-14. Go New Orleans. :rnr:

Could this be our season?

And that was the week after their bye, you would have thought they would have rested up but it just shows that sometimes a break can actually be damaging to you if you're on a roll.

Good to see Saints hung in there to win (nail biting stuff). That makes them and the Colts the only two unbeaten teams after week 8.

Its dumb.

The coaching staff - Lovie Smith, et al - just had no idea how to use Kyle Orton effectively. Hence why, when he went to the Broncos (who have an in telligent coach) he has been mega-effective. Now they have no idea how to use Jay Cutler effectively. Also, Cutler might be an asshole who doesn't want to play for Chi-city. One or the other.

This is a good point - no clear star receiver PLUS his o-line couldn't block me and you at this point. Between that and the defense, they should just change the Chicago logo to a picture of a sieve :D

Kind of. I watched the game the other day and they were impressive, there's no doubt. But they have problems defending against the run and i can't think of any team that's been able to win the superbowl without being able to control the clock.

So they will have to get a bit more wise in that regard. It's not to say they can't win it, but i still have my doubts.

I dont think theres any perfect team out there, but they certainly showed they can do it against a good opponent. hopefully AP can show up these issues with the run you speak of more than Drew Brees shows up the Vikings inconsistant pass D. Tho I hope Allen and the Williams Wall makes him hop around a bit:D

still gotta get to that point first, i remember the 98 Vikings, 15-1 and lost because the kicker missed his only kick of the season....gutting:(

Saints have now taken the NFC South title and are 12-0 for the season.  All right!! :rnr: Didn't make it easy on themselves though. There were never in the lead at any time in the game until the field goal in extra time, which we got because the Redskins missed a field goal 2 minutes from full time. That miss allowed the Saints to start an 80 yard drive, with no time outs, that ended in a touch down 33 seconds later. For once the lucky breaks fell our way (about time too).

I also heard this is the first season ever where two teams are 12-0. You would think the likely SB should have Saints and Colts.

yeah you guys got lucky, but a lot of teams get that (Vikings v 49ers for instance) while Saints Colts looks most likely, the Saints wont have it all their own way.....regardless if they do get through, theyll be the team I follow as mine will be out!

I wouldn't mind if the Saints win it - as a payback for Hurricane Katrina. It will be very emotional (in a way that only the Yanks can do it) if they do win the Superbowl, but there's plenty of water to flow out of the levies before that happens.

Colts and Saints are both 13-0-0. This year it's a great comp, but I'm unsure exactly how much that has to do with two teams dominating (instead of one which makes it more interesting) or because one of those two is the Saints.

Is live on ESPN at the moment. Not sure how this works, because its supposedly the "Thursday Night" match, so it may not be as live as Sky would have you believe.

The game was preceeded by a minutes silence for Chris Henry, the Bengals WR who died as a result of an altercation with his girlfriend earlier this week. :(
RIP.

The game was live (as I was following it over the internet till I got home to see the forth quarter), but I have no idea what the Thursday Night Live bit was all about. All I can surmise that if it hadn't been for Christmas, the game would ahve been played on Thursday, so it was called a Thursday night game. Then Christmas forced them to bring the games forward a few days but it kept it's name (Americans can be just like Germans at times). Having said that, I see there is a game on Christmas Day, so I could just be full of grit.

Gutted we are no longer unbeaten (although when Dallas missed that field goal with two minutes to go, I thought we may have been in with a shot). At least now the pressure is off to stay unbeaten. Let's hope we get back to our winning ways next week against Tamps Bay. It shouldn't be hard, but then it shouuldn't have been hard for Liverpool to beat the cellar dwellers Portsmouth the other day yet they failed (oops! thread cross over).

I don't know who does the odds for the TAB on the NFL, but they don't seem to have a clue. I just dropped a small amount on the Bengals to beat the Jets. Now, the Jets may well win the game (because they get to the playoffs if they do), but the Bengals are paying $4.50! So the TAB thinks they're rank outsiders - go figure.

edit: the more i saw, the more i liked. I got some money on the Patriots - paying $3.60! against Houston. And the Pats to be AFC champs at $5.50. The reason i like that one is that the Colts hold no fear for the Pats, in fact if anything, the Colts will be worried about us getting through :finger:

Saints lose to Panthers 10-23
Vikings pulverise the Giants (you'd be happy there Devil)

So the Wild Card round looks like this:

This is a little off topic but not too much.

I read this thread today and noticed you guys talking about the TAB and how their odds for American sports are a bit screwed sometimes. So I thought I might go check out what they had going for NHL games. Both Calgary and Detroit (go Redwings!) were paying about $2.50 to win. I thought that sounded a bit off, Calgary is only 2 places behind Vancouver (who were paying $1.30) and Detroit, even though they have been injury plagued so far this season and are sitting on about 12th, had some players returning. It turned out Calgary won 3-2 and Detroit won 4-1! $10 on each :)

So it seems like it definately pays to keep an eye on the odds, especially if you're an avid fan.

Ray Rice had a field day againts the Pats and it dont see the Pats jobs getting any easier against SD

I watched the first 1/4 of the Arizona game and thought the cardinals were gonna run away with it

got back after a game of tennis to see Arizona missing a goal to leave the game at 45 all at full time

Cardinals defence was mean in overtime to get that turn over and the win

I can't believe how shit Brady played - it was more what i would have expected from him in the rookie Superbowl appearance. To be fair, he got fuck all pass protection early on and i knew it was going to be a hard ask given the holes in the Pats defence, but we'll come back stronger next year.

Go the Ravens - its going to be a hard-ass revengefest against the Colts next week. I'm picking Ray Lewis is already practising on tackle dummies with Mannings face drawn on them. :rnr:

Colts and Saints make it through to their respective divisional finals.

What annoys the hell out of me is ESPN show the colts game twice, but not the Saints. TV One news shows the results of te Colts game but don't even mention the Saints. It's blatant NFCism. Why does the AFC get all the publicity? And don't say "because all the good teams are in the AFC"....please. Even if it is the truth. I'm not sure I could handle it.

Cardiac arrest at 26, that is indeed pretty sad. Just shows how much stress those guys put on their bodies. I saw an interview with a football player from the 50's or 60's (can't remember which or who it was) but he could barely walk without being in pain because of the hammering his body took when he was playing. Not unusual apparently.

No, it all comes down to who has the rights to screen it. For instance, Fox had the rights to the NFC match, which is why it was shown on SS1 - because Murdoch owns Fox and Sky. And i saw the Saints result on TV1 News, but i don't remember seeing the Colts/Ravens result.

I watched the Colts game live yesterday and one thing annoyed me more than anything.

The ocmmentators kept on about how great Manning is - and I agree, he's an excellent Q-back. But what won the COlts that game was their D. Keeping the Ravens to 3 was immense, especially as they averaged 25 points a game in the regular season.

Although the Ravens didn't help themselves with the amount of penalties they gave away. The worst being the multiple penalties at the end of the first half.

But yeah, that Colts D was immense - great against the pass, and really great against the rush.

Like so many sports its defence that wins matches. I hope Graham Henry learns that lesson before the next RWC.

All the years i've watched NFL the two "truths" that keep coming back is the teams that win:
have an excellent running game (which allows them to control the clock)
have great defence (which stops the opposition scoring points)

Maybe - but even he didn't play that great yesterday - no scores in the 2nd half other than the FG.

As mentioned, it was their D that won the game for them. And some awesome other plays - the one on the intercept where Garcon chased back and punched the ball out during the tackle was the play of the match IMO.

Didn't play great? Are you kidding me?

Name one QB apart from him, that could drive down and score a touchdown in 1:25 before the half.

Also its a known fact that the Colts D plays better when they are leading. When down, teams tend to pass the ball, this means Mathis and Freeney can rush off the end and cause pressure and turnovers for the Colts.

The Colts D played extremely well BECAUSE they were leading after halftime. And who lead the charge in scoring 14 points in 1:57 before the half? That's right, that man, the MVP.

He was helped massively by the penalties the Ravens gave away - but yeah that was a good drive, I'll give you that :)

NFC championship final between the Saints and the Vikings will be broadcast on Sky Sport 3 at 12:30 (NZ Time) on Monday afternoon - Go Saints (Obviously). Good thing I can work from home at times.

First time to the Superbowl :rnr: :rnr: :rnr:

That was not an easy game to watch. The Saints really pounded Favre and to his credit, he did a lot better than many others would have done in similar circumstances. I am a little concerned that Manning is a freaking good QB. He can read a defense so well it's spooky.

I feel bad for you Devil, and had the result been reversed, I would have stood behind the Vikings as well. Peterson reminded me of the Auckland Warriors, one minute fantastic, the next your sitting there with your jaw on the ground going "WTF?".

Cant bring myself to hate the Saints, and as much as Favres throw was a bad throw in the situation, I just cant blame him fully for that loss, he took everything the Saints threw at him and got them into the place to begin with. Peterson, Harvin, Berrian all dropping balls killed, two in the Red Zone.

So tho you just know it will be oh Favre threw it away, hes shit, i actually think he did ok, on one leg that second half.

Be interesting to see if Brees and all can pick up the offense against the Colts, who arent the strongest defensive team, I actually thought they got dominated a bit on offense at times

An hour later, still gutted:(

Oh and yes VERY hard game to watch for both sets of fans. Some REAL bad calls made there too, one roughing the passer on Favre and the pass "interference" call that got the Saints in to field goal range especially

but it goes both ways and I dont wanna sound a bad loser;) Good luck Saints for the superbowl

Agreed. He did very well under the circumstances and quite frankly, his protection was pretty poor. It's like a goal keeper in soccer being blamed for a 4-0 loss when he pulled off some great saves but was let down by the defenders. Having said that, Saints have always had a very good defense.

Forth and One and Saints don't go for the field goal. Balsy move that may not have paid off, but didn't backfire either.

Yeah, as it turned out they were lucky enough to get the field goal a few plays later.

...and we get the two pointer! WhooHoo!

Because the ground cannot cause a fumble - i can't believe the commentators couldn't see that the ball only began to bobble once he hit the ground.

Well done Saints! They played the best game and made more gutsy decisions that ultimately paid off. The 4th/1 (though the Colts got a 4th/2), the onside kick for a touchdown drive and the eventual pressure on Manning that gave up the interception.

I can't believe the odds that the TAB offers. I got $7.25 for the Vikings to win today's match against the Eagles! I know the Viks weren't playing that well, but there's no way that it was that lop-sided. Oh well, it was a nice little collect. :)

Those are good odds but Vick will be back for this game and i really have no faith in Eli "interceptions" Manning, look for Nnamdi to pick a couple off :)

Giants 29
Eagles 16

And i get another nice collect from the TAB. It's a shame i couldn't bring myself to back the Bills over the Pats - the closing odds were $3.60 but i'm sure they were $6-7 last night when i was checking.

I got a piece of that Bills action, very pleased with myself.

What a pathetic showing by the Jets, what the hell happened to our third in the league ground defense. You cant win games when you let Mcfadden run for 170 yards. Oh and fumbled kick returns, looked like a bunch of beer league players.

Hilarious! I don't know what it was but in the pre-game leadup between the Ravens and the Jaguars, i had a sense that the Jags could get up. So right at the kick-off i put some money on them. The funny thing was someone else must have had the same idea, because the initial odds were $4.75 but by the time i logged in they'd come in to $4.50. Still good money in anyone's language!

Phillies v Dallas, latest betting action. The Cowboys are paying $2.50, which i think is good value and i've jumped onboard. They are playing a lot better than their record suggests and have led a lot of games only to drop it right at the end. I don't think the Eagles are playing well enough to take this one.

Hmm, i like the look of the Seahawks at $5.25. I know it's being played in Dallas but the Cowboys have found so many ways to lose games they should have won this season that i'm not sure they can even beat the lowly Hawks.

Good picks. Meanwhile, the Cowboys finally get the win. And i was looking at the Dolphins because i thought they couldn't keep losing - and they proved me right. If only i'd backed it up with some cash. :( Oh, did i tell you i hate the fucken Giants - i had a feeling they were going to beat the Pats.

Happens to me all the time, I over think the pick and end up not placing money on it. Nice pick on the fish, I couldnt bring myself to put money on a winless team.

I think the Rams are better than the lowly Browns and that the Lions will beat the Bears who are due for a let down after that big win over the Eagles.

Im all over the Giants this week too, with Frank Gore playing on one leg I dont think the 49ers will be able to run the ball like they need to to be effective. Alex smith is still Alex Smith.... I hope im right :/

The Jets and Patriots always dish up a good game but listening to Chris Collinsworth it sounded like they got themselves too worked up during practice that week. The Eagles @ $2.70 stand out for me. Sure, the Giants beat the Patriots but they have their number. I haven't seen anything special from them this season, whereas the Eagles seem to have fixed up their run defence and have threats all over the park. Vick is starting to look very dangerous. The Bengals are a value bet @ $3.40 against the Ravens, imo. I agree that Buffalo are good odds against the fish.

I cant see why Buffalo is an underdog, Miami is terrible at home.... and in general.

The Bengals are a good pick, you just never know which Ravens team is going to show up though, the one that beat the Steelers twice or the one that lost to the Seahawks. Also, the Bengals are missing A.J Green which takes away their number one deep threat.

The Eagles were in a tough spot last week against the Cards with Kolb being able to recognize most of their plays and I am still amazed that the Giants have managed to win this many games. I like that pick.

Edit: Looks like Vick wont be starting, rib injury so it might be Kafka which doesn't really fill me with confidence.

Apparently Ray Lewis isn't starting for the Ravens, which will take a lot of their passion out if he's sidelined. He's always the one geeing the team up, but it won't be the same if he's not playing himself. If Vick is out that changes the Eagles slightly, but i'd still take them - i think the Jets are flattering to deceive. Bengals - yeah, i can't figure those odds. Good win by the Broncos last night too!

Nice Eagles pick but hard luck with the Bengals, they were a bit robbed by that no TD call.

Oh and fuck the Broncos, although we tried our hardest to loose that game and we eventually succeeded in doing so.
