I guess you're going to be doing photo manipulation on it, colour correction, cropping etc?

If you want something that's not going to drag its feet then a budget of around $1000 will be a starting point.

Once bought, it would be ideal to rip out the HDD and put an SSD in it and then store data on a USB HDD.

At least 8GB of ram and a dedicated GPU now that CS5+ makes decent use of GPU's.

I know but it will only be a back up thing while we are away from home, so it doesn't have to be too flash.
That's why I'm hoping for a reasonable used one.

You'll need a pretty powerful computer to run the entire internet.

Thanks Baldesto, they look amazing for the prices, I was looking at this (http://www.playtech.co.nz/afawcs0139235/CATID=363/ID=19793/SID=858330696/productdetails.html?utm_source=Playtech+List&utm_campaign=b42aa522fd-Playtech_Back_To_School1_31_2013&utm_medium=email) as well. Between the two under $600 which would be best you recon? I guess there may be more specials coming up from other outfits too.

Just to let you know (if anyone cares) I settled for this one (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=559591891) in the end. Only a 14" screen but seems to be fast and handy, I figure it will run my 24" monitor at the shop for photoshop and yet be reasonably portable if needed.

Looks good as, decent cpu and good amount of ram.

If you feel its too slow, you can always replace the standard hard drive with and ssd, makes quite the difference.

Ah nice to know, I saw the newer ones had ssd drives. And I can put another 4G of ram if needed.
