Car got green stickered by a female cop with something to prove.

Went over my car with a fine toothed comb yesterday in a carpark, heard me change from first to second and said my car was too loud.

She had no testing equipment, so asked me to turn my car on, rev it a bit then turn it off. Issued me with a $50 fine, and 25 demerits, and told me to head to a vtnz station to get it tested and for the sticker to be removed.

I went there, was told I needed to get it certed. Rang the cert guy, $250 later and was told to not bother wasting my time if I was above 95 db limit. Went to Pit Stop today, was 89@idle, 91@2k, 94@3k, 98@4k.

Rang the cert guy, he said that they should have tested me @ 3200rpm, so I might just be under/over, and there could be a silver lining to this rather unnecessary dark cloud. If I pass the cert, I still need to go to the vtnz station and get a WOF, where they will remove the green sticker. However, I can still fail the WOF if my cars not up to their standard, even though I had a fresh wof at the end of may.

All seems like a big money making procedure, and in my case, this cop didn't know what the fuck she was on about.

^ If you were changing from 1st to 2nd @ over 4,000 RPM she's just doing her job.

Ahh that sucks mate - unfortunately you get some cops in a bad mood and its all over.

Luckily my Skyline just has a nice quiet rumble so I don't have the issue but I feel for those that do.

Got a warning for my sounds a couple of months ago though which surprised the hell out of me, I have heard that the cops give out fines but I really didn't think it would happen to me.

If I had been listening to Dubstep at the time I probably would have received a fine but I just happened to be in an AC/DC mood

In a carpark? That requires the car to be going faster than what is safe. And taking off and changing at 4k isn't retarded, it's normal.

It's no biggie, just another thing which I didn't think needed to be looked at, but according to some it has to be. The guys at PitStop scoffed at the sticker once they did the test, and said she doesn't know right from left in terms of the legality of the noise of your car, however the law states that it is subjective to that officers interpretation of the comparison between the stock exhaust and the modified exhaust.

And like she knows what the stock R32 exhaust setup looks/sounds like? Totally fair right there.

Funny thing is, I have been pulled up by cops, and stopped at check points to go over my car as they do, and I have always complied and been polite etc, yet not ONCE been pulled up for how loud my car is. I knew I was in for a bumpy ride when she asked for my license and I heard her tone of voice, and started to slowly walk around my car and disappear to her car for 10 minutes.

I don't think it's a case of "just doing her job". But hopefully after tomorrow I will have a certified exhaust system and a drawn out spec sheet of what my system looks like, which I will keep a copy in my glovebox to show them next time I get asked to pull over.

If you had the cert in your glove box she wouldn't have had to 'just do her job'.

There was no "job" to be had, my car wasn't loud, she was just trying to ping me for something. A car only gets loud when the engine gets into its power range, 2-3k is not a power range, boost hasn't even spooled yet.

Boost doesn't spool. A turbo spools, or boost accumulates.

If its a certed exhaust there should be a plate attached to the rear muffler.

You could just not have a cannon for an exhaust. Not like it makes any difference to your performance when all you're really doing is going the speed limit. Unless you wanna use the couple extra kws to get to 60 faster?

Thanks El Capitan, will remember that when I hit my flux capacitor next time.

I bought the car like that, it's passed all of its WOF's; I've made sure it's perfectly legal. And tomorrow, several hundred dollars later, it will be there in black and white on a plate stuck to my 4.5" 'cannon'.

Yeah I think some may be confused as to what an illegally loud car exhaust sounds like, the limit is far lower than you would think so if you can hear retards boosting around at night its almost definitely illegally loud.

The fact that dees Skyline is right on the limit means its not loud enough to fuck people off - well those who accept that some cars have exhausts that are a little louder than standard.

^Should really get mine certed. Passed all warrants etc and already have a cert for the suspension. How do they do the testing for it anyway? Like what is the limit etc.

EDIT: Never mind, 95dba if registered before 1 June 2008
