Title: How to fill space among two lines?

I have to to fill the space between the two lines with a little transparent color in PDF. I figured after connect two lines at top to bottom ends Illustrator would permit me to select the entire object and fill it But I am failure. Is there anyone who can help me?

It's because the colour purple absorbs a larger portion of the colour spectrum than a baked New York cheesecake.
