Title: Homeworld Remastered
Post by: Apostrophe Spacemonkey on March 08, 2014, 06:20:43 am
Once upon a time, when games actually came in cardboard boxes. There was this amazing game known to many has Homeworld.

It had a good story, amazing graphics, and that was just the instruction manual, the game was even better.

One of the few games which had a 3d playing field. You could move your ships up high and attack from above. It had beautiful background graphics for the level.

Then there was a sequel, named Homeworld 2, which was also awesome.

Then for a long time, like the cold emptiness of space, there was nothing.

Until now, Homeworld Remastered Edition
http://www.homeworldremastered.com (http://www.homeworldremastered.com)

Both games have been updated, including updated high-res textures and models, new graphical effects, and support for HD resolutions.

There will also be a Collector's Edition, containing art book, game manual, key chain and a replica mothership (see website for more details)

What is a PEGI-rated and USK-rated?

Sadmonkey is sad. I would have loved to have this, but my budget for this month is stretched pretty thin, I can't justify spending $200 + shipping on a game.

What is a PEGI-rated and USK-rated?

PEGI rating is used in most of the EU its based on the same standard that nz uses for dvd's.

basically if customs had a fit Pegi would be let through but probably not USK

about PEGI?
What are ratings?
Age ratings are systems used to ensure that entertainment content, such as films, videos, DVDs, and computer games, are clearly labelled by age according to the content they contain. Age ratings provide guidance to consumers (particularly parents) to help them decide whether or not to buy a particular product.

Computer and video games are now enjoyed by millions of players throughout Europe. In the UK, 37 % of the population aged between 16 and 49 describe themselves as ‘active gamers’ (defined as currently playing games on a console, handheld or PC). In comparison, in Spain and Finland 28% of the population aged 16 and 49 are defined as ‘active gamers’(Nielsen report 2008). While most games (49%) are suitable for players of all ages there are many that are only suitable for older children and young teenagers. There are also some games (4%) that are made for adults only (over the age of 18).

The rating on a game confirms that it is suitable for players over a certain age. Accordingly, a PEGI 7 game is only suitable for those aged seven and above and an PEGI 18 game is only suitable for adults aged eighteen and above. The PEGI rating considers the age suitability of a game, not the level of difficulty.

PEGI is used and recognised throughout Europe and has the enthusiastic support of the European Commission. It is considered to be a model of European harmonisation in the field of the protection of children.

http://www.pegi.info/en/index/ (http://www.pegi.info/en/index/)

USK is a german rating thing designed for them.. don't know much about it.. get the PEGI one it's less strict.

USK is the German abbreviation for the Entertainment Software Self-Regulation Body, an organisation which has been voluntarily established by the computer games industry. It is responsible for the classification of computer games in Germany. At the end of a joint classification procedure, age rating symbols are issued by the relevant state representatives. This system ensures that computer games are only sold to children and young persons if the contents of the games have been approved as suitable. The categorisations used are based on the German Children and Young Persons Act. The aim of this site is to provide you with information about the work we do. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to Contact us.

Basically looks like a german only sort of rating system

Found my disc's for Homeworld 1 and 2.

Played through the hw2 campaign. Had issues getting hw1 to run through, had to use low graphics settings, then the game got stuck on mission 3.

HW1 was mostly openGL and 3dfx engine based which is why it has issues..

Game is out.

Unfortunately I won't be playing it this weekend. But looking forward to when I get the chance.

It's got quite a positive reception, even from people who never played the originals. 89 on Metacritic, and top seller on steam.

I have this - HW2 runs like a dream and the HiRes graphics gives me a raging hardon

HW1 doesn't start Campaign mode :( but Skirmish works fine

Check that both DLC's are ticked, and maybe verify your games files. Have you tried manually updating punkbuster?

Graphics look great, DOF effect when you zoon in on one of the tiny ships, is awesome.

And I like the explosions. Michael Bay would be proud.

Finished the HW1 Campaign.

Graphics are great. Gameplay is a bit dated through.

A lot of people say HW1 was the better game, but I disagree. It had a much better story then HW2, but the mission were heavily scripted, after playing through once you knew everything that would happen and it made it too easy.

I found the HW2 gameplay much more dynamic.

^ this,  HW1  - scripted story made good  for one play through after that you could whack it up to extreme difficulty and still win because you knew where everything would be, but made epic story..

HW2 ^ def agree,  they could have got round this in HW1 and somewhat in HW2 by using Diablo2 style procedural random map and placement generation.
