Quote
An Australian man has admitting faking 21 thefts of his car over the past 13 years to avoid paying traffic fines.
Mario Hili, 64, admitted charges of obtaining financial advantage by deception and making false documents when he appeared in the Geelong Magistrates Court last week.
The Geelong Advertiser reported that when Hili last reported his car stolen - on January 20, 2013 - police could only find his fingerprints on the recovered vehicle.
"Police discovered it was the 21st time since 2000 that Hili had reported his car stolen," Senior Constable Siobhan Daly told the court.
"Each time he would find it himself at various locations around Geelong and each report coincided with him having received a traffic infringement notice through the mail."
By reporting the vehicle stolen, Hili was able to avoid demerit points against his licence that included traffic camera offences related to speeding and going through red traffic lights.
Magistrate Stephen Myall fined Hili A$2500 (NZ$3094), taking into account lack of priors and his early guilty plea but added no penalties to his licence.

Given that he kept his licence, he's well ahead of the game. He would be paying a lot less for that fine then the 21 traffic fines that he racked up.
