Hex+ Hexacopter with Gimbal
Mean little Hexacopter with some cool tech attached to it, and I've upgraded to the 3D gimbal for the camera.

Thats ridiculously cool tech. Tempted to buy it, despite really not seeing myself getting much value out of it.

I've been reading grumblings around the internet that the HEXO+ is all a fake, their website lists more marketing and sales staff than engineers, and unless 'tardo can code a SIFT algorithm to run in an RTOS environment* then HEXO+ is doomed.

AirDog looks a little more legit http://www.airdog.com/

I haven't personally pried into either of these companies, but kickstarter seems to be the new way to scam people.

* - tardo himself can code a SIFT algorithm in an RTOS environment, but that is because he is him. Others cannot do it because they aren't him. If they were him and he were they then they could do it. The fact of the matter is that he is him though. Obviously.

Yea the following tech is what makes it quite exciting. They have already stated it doesn't do obstacle avoidance, but I would love to see how well it could track in a busy environment. I guess they will use some sort of position based tracking in combination with their object tracking algorithm, but will be interesting to see the results.

I'm on snap, 300gb per month for $85. I normally don't use more than 150gb in a month. Is there something better/cheaper I can be on?

I am on a similar deal. Don't think you can get much better value for money than that. Might save a few dollars going to telecom, but not really worth it.

I like how Bounty is coming up with all these great ideas on how to solve the world energy problems, instead of criticizing other peoples ideas.

Regardless of what he was doing, no point throwing money at something which has some fundamental flaws.  A slick video and a good idea in concept don't mean much.

Just started watching this. Superb show. No surprises its HBO.

I vote the bridge mode. You can pickup a wireless router with decent range off trademe for cheap usually (got one for my parents for $40). Even better if its one that supports dd-wrt, then you can adjust the transmit power if its still just short.

DOTA 2 / Re: So who plays this?
« on: May 09, 2014, 05:31:23 pm »
Gave up on this game after me and osiris kept getting terrible losses, often playing with massive assholes. It really seems like you consistently get average teammates on both teams, so there is no real fun in it. Had a bit of spell on HON with my friends, but now I have found my new love in heartstone.

As a branding specialist, I fucking hate Vodafone's corporate presence. Their shitty marketing campaigns are so much fail.

Telecoms giganaire marketing campaign make vodafones look alright.

Playing these dirty strats, just takes this game to another level of fun. Played a lvl1 zoolock to take my warlock to 10, then did the same with an aggro hunter. Was just laughing all the way at the opponents response. Nothing better than seeing your opponent panic when they are truly fucked by turn 5. Played a pretty entertaining one, where someone had a murloc stacked deck against my lvl 1 hunter (so pretty much none of the good cards), and had the early lead but panic'd and started to attack my minions instead of my face despite me having no way to clear his minions.

Also crushing someones small comeback with a release the hounds with a few buffs on the board, can really break some hearts. I know at some point I will have to play this game seriously, but i do hope i can carry on this fun for a bit longer.

Just started playing this. Pretty fun. Just been playing casual and winning and losing a bunch.

Level a couple of heroes to 10 against AI to start. That unlocks a bunch of cards for each hero. Also beating all the AI then expert AI nets you a bit of gold.

Is playing the AI better than playing against people. I generally seem to find playing AI makes your game play fairly static in most games, and then you get destroyed in pvp. That being said, I imagine you could really optimize the AI in this, to play the most efficient way.

Do it to unlock the cards for a class or 2, you can make some decent decks out of the free cards. Doesn't take much time to get a class to level 10. Also, do it just to get the gold rewards from it.

Yea i ended up playing AI to unlock the last 2 characters i needed, and now just been playing around on a few different classes. Mage still is my favourite, but i could see myself going the druid or warrior way.

ha, the mistake was creating a start menu in the first place in windows 95.

It is a stupid thing. I was glad to see it gone.

Woah. Care to elaborate? Seemed to work pretty well for like... a few hundred million people for 20 odd years.

Win7 made the start menu pretty redundant with the ability to pin programs to taskbar, and the win key + typing program name functionality. If people still used it heavily, it was largely because they failed to adapt to a more more efficient system. I would even say metro is a natural evolution of the win key + type program functionality, because its much easier to pick your program from the list.

That being said, glad they are bringing back the start menu. They really should of handled it like removing window titles from the taskbar in win7, and just made it default but easy to disable. So that way over time, people would pick it up as they got more comfortable in the system.

I think in the long run you'd be more satisfied with a dect phone anyway if you need to have a home phone. Less hassle really.

It's pretty hard to find non cat5e cable (lower than I mean, obv cat6 is easy) so i'd be beyond amazed if it wasn't cat5e.

Can give you guys a hand too if you'd like x)

Whats the advantage of using it with a dect phone? Just not having to have phone bases, or does it allow you to make calls over the internet etc.

Will head over around 5ish. Hopefully there's some easy way to spot everyone.

Ends tomorrow and I'll be fucked if I'm letting it go for $51...

Does trademe not do reserves anymore?

You have to pay money to get a reserve that is not the starting bid.

That is some fucked up shit.

Honestly i think trade me are trying to make themselves shit so we use wheedle or ebay..

To be fair its 25cents or so. There are much worse money grabs on trademe then paying money to set a reserve.

I set a low reserve to try and get the bidding going, but It appears to have backfired.

You would of most likely seen a flurry of bidding in the last 10 minutes, assuming you had a few interested watchers.

Why does anyone want 4G/LTE?

I've never been downloading 4GB of something to my phone in the central city and wished I had a faster connection.

Also isn't the battery drain on 4G/LTE a lot more than 3G.

Having now realized monday is easter, I will try head around, assuming my works plans aren't on monday. Will be nice to meet everyone.

Sorry, I don't understand this paragraph. You're agreeing but redefining but disagreeing? :S

Just trying to say those kind of girls are really just stereotypes, and a decent chunk of kiwi girls that I have met aren't like that.

Yeah I found in high school and primary school there were definitely kids there to 'eat their lunch'. But that wasn't what I was referring to, I was referring to the staff and 'figure heads' basically pushing everyone down. Don't be clever. Don't stand out. Fall in line. Be another piece of trash we'll push through the system into society.

Lunch eaters was just to indicate I didn't go to a specifically academically minded school, but academic success was still promoted.

73
Haha I see. I don't see it as a 'kiwi' girl/average female in NZ thing though - surely it's more so just dependent on the actual person as opposed to their race :/

Gotta agree with winter here. I know what is meant by the stereotypical kiwi girl that turns you guys off, but those generally seem to be more kiwi girls you meet overseas. Maybe its because to me kiwi girl = auckland girl, and aucklands much more culturally diverse then outside auckland, so girls are closer to what you expect from foreign girls.

An example is how some things aren't socially acceptable here where they are in other places and vice versa. Because of these things, people are discouraged from doing things and showing excellence in schools and stuff here. I wasn't raised in NZ till I was about 9, was a shock to the system starting school here being told that in order to fit in with my class I had to stop trying to learn or stop being clever. And it was like that at every school I went to in NZ, friends of mine that moved here as children also found the same with different schools entirely and have learned it's pretty normal for NZ even though it's disgusting. Part of the reason i'd never want to raise a child in NZ, I digress.

Although I've found this all from my experience and the experiences of other people obviously vary.

This kinda reinforces my opinion, because i found the opposite. And this was while attending a decile 4 highschool, where a lot of kids simply came to school to eat their lunch.

Technology & Hardware / Re: Router/internet help
« on: April 09, 2014, 06:29:50 pm »
Splitter is a likely issue. But i had a similar problem, and customer help kept saying splitter and it turned out to be an issue on my external line, which was fixed by a visit from chorus. The way i was able to tell, was by watching the noise margin of my line when phone calls came in. It would usually go to a very big number and the net would drop out.

So best plan of action is play around with splitter/filters/another router, and if you are confident none of those fix the problem, get someone in to inspect the line.

I Might have to invest in said tool

You can invest in those resistance based one. They are pretty reliable if you use them at a point that isn't post exercise or when you have really sweaty feet.

They cost anywhere from $50 to 150. I was able to get a weight watchers one off 1day for $50. Hasn't been too bad so far.
