I can't find a travel section here and I know so many of you have done some amazing trips.

In keeping with my love for climbing volcanoes I have booked a trip to Iceland next year.
Well, I have booked my flights to get there anyway.

Has anyone else been there?
Comments on accommodation & transport from anyone whose been?
Am flying in from Copenhagen, 7 nights in Iceland (nothing booked when I get there) then on to London.

Comments on accommodation & transport from anyone whose been, as always, would be appreciated.

Unless you're Tom Hanks. He's immune to volcanos.

Not been to that part of the world, but when it comes to booking hotels in a country I've not been too, Expedia always did me well.

And then there's that site that keeps getting advertised on tele - Trivago. Never used it though.

Expedia always did me well.

Same here. Also TripAdvisor is good for finding activities and operators.

thanks for the link fairy. It looks great, I'll definitely look in to that one.

And thanks everyone else too, I seem to spend half my life on trip advisor these days planning this trip (7 weeks altogether)
I was just hoping one of you may have been there.

Hate the fucking shit out of all those search aggregation type sites.
That said, I ended up using one Venere.com recently, found it actually decent.

Never ever use one for air tickets though. Complete bullshit. Better luck using the official site for whatever airline you're using.
That said they can be good for getting an idea on where to start looking though.

People I know have said good things about airbnb too. We used it in Germany, but had a team of mates with me. I wasn't so keen when it was just the missus and I.

Lias found this out the other day with web jet the hidden fees charged that are not displayed with ticket price.

i used them to find the cheapest then go direct to that company and book it.

Yeah I've heard of all kinds of dodgy shit. Like they get discount fares for much cheaper in some snaffu, then on sell them at the original price, make like $400 profit in 1 go.
But I dunno.

I just don't like them, usually can't figure out a decent route, come out slightly higher, only push the brands they support, etc. It's just not really a winning situation. For me going to a country's national airline is usually much better.

Unless it's air france.
(I kid, but seriously.)

KLM was great in and out of Amsterdam.
Alitalia was great in and out of Italy.

Air france was not enjoyable, although we were on a partnership flight (cityjet). Also Paris de Gaul is a bit of a shithole.
And French people are almost surlier than Russians*. I don't even know how this is fucking possible.

* (but Russians undefeated by a lead of a factor of 2 at least)

If i could jump in for a semi hijack. Anyone know whats one of the cheaper routes to fly from europe to canda? Will initially be in holland, but likely to travel around a bit, so could tack it off any destination reasonably close to holland.
