Hopefully we will all be amazed and astounded !
:)

Shall await the disappointment from over in the nvidia camp

High end rigs expect about 14% boost.
mid/low rigs 40% boost.
This will change once AMD updates the drivers specific to BF4. I'd give it a week until they have it flying and see some real numbers.

"1.Mantle performance for the AMD Radeon HD 7000/HD 8000 Series GPUs and AMD Radeon R9 280X and R9 270X GPUs will be optimized for BattleField 4 in future AMD Catalyst releases. These products will see limited gains in BattleField 4 and AMD is currently investigating optimizations for them as they are the next highest priority products. - See more at: http://www.maximumpc.com/amds_catalyst_141_drivers_are_incoming_mantle_update_and_more#sthash.T39Jlpur.dpuf (http://www.maximumpc.com/amds_catalyst_141_drivers_are_incoming_mantle_update_and_more#sthash.T39Jlpur.dpuf) [maximumpc.com]"

^^ 25% sounds wonderful that's exactly my rigl! :)

How many megabixels is it?
1259 Mega's

I have a 1.24GB update going through now.
this will be helpful
Performance tools
To simplify measuring performance in the game we’ve added a new tool to the in-game console to record frame times for later analysis. Simply run “PerfOverlay.FrameFileLogEnable 1″ to start saving frame times and “PerfOverlay.FrameFileLogEnable 0″ to stop. The resulting .csv file will be located in Documents/Battlefield 4 which can be opened & graphed by Excel or other applications for viewing.Another in-game tool that is useful to use is “Render.DrawScreenInfo 1″ that will now show additional on-screen information about your CPU & GPU config, resolution and as well as if Mantle or DirectX 11 is used for rendering.
Fuck me, downloaded the 1.54GB in 5 mins...... very happy with that on a standard 15mbps download speed.
Edit: the Catalyst 14.1 beta isn't available yet...

The AMD Catalyst 14.1 Beta driver is expected to be available at AMD’s website sometime today.

People across the board are saying huge improvements to the game. This is without mantle.
Smoother, hit boxes working, on HC friendly markers are better, tank aiming fixed, fps boost in general too.
-
Will mantle work with older AMD GPU's? like my 5850's? or only GCN cards?
-
Only GCN.
Im going to wait for benches, a 270x for $330 could be a superb UG
-
I have a feeling the catalyst 14.1 update is available, as the site is down....
edit - never mind, is was my computer...
-
Only GCN.

This is what I'm thinking upgrade wise as well, shall see once things settle down
-
Running a 270x atm (sapphire vapour X) superb card for bf4 @ 1920 x 1080

I'm still getting some pretty bogus deaths.
performance for me has suffered, I dipped to 50fps momentarily today.
shotguns are the new noob tube, even more noobier than rockets.

During the QA process, we identified an installation issue in AMD Catalyst 14.1 that renders it unsuitable for distribution for testing in your labs. We are testing a new build overnight and will update you on its status by mid-afternoon Eastern Standard Time on January 31. We apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience and understanding.

Press release driver is live. Not far away for public !
-
Got them and had a quick play, went from about 60 fps average to 80. Nice!
-
just installed, but I am still on the 6900 boat.
I am due to build a new rig in the next few weeks so a solid review of the 280x etc with a i7 or a new kaveri could be sweet.
-
Getting drivers now will report back once tested.
-
@growler
280x = 7970, if anything future proof yourself and spend the extra 80 or so and get a custom 290. Rapes the shit out of everything.
-
Doesn't work with crossfire.Just so you know.
-
Tested last night on a 7850 @ 1680x1050 all settings ultra @ 45 fps avg. Not much difference fps wise but seemed smooth no massive frame drops etc maybe some subtle improvements but will wait on more mature drivers.
-
what CPU Smilin?
-
Im seeing solid improvements on high. Stil spiking down on ultra.
-
@ Growler
FX6100 @ 3.30GHZ (Stock speed) and 8 gig ram
-
Smilin, the 7850 may not have been profiled yet for mantle.
BUT
it would be worth trying the core thing to make sure of any changes.
So make sure you did a 100% uninstall of your old driver. Best app linked below for it!
DDU http://www.wagnardmobile.com/DDU/ (http://www.wagnardmobile.com/DDU/)
Then install new 14.1.
then write a line of code into your BF4 prefs/config the number at the end is relevant to your processor, so 4, 6, 8 etc
try this, nothing to lose and everything to gain!
01. Go to >>> C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4
((NOTE)) If you're running windows 8, go to VIEW > make sure "File Name Extensions" is checked... If your running Win7 go to VIEW > FOLDER OPTIONS > make sure "view File Name Extensions" is checked. If it isn't then you can't change the extension (aka file type) of a file, and it will save it as text.
02. Right-Click inside the window > NEW > Text Document >>> and name it "user.cfg"
03. Ok... open user.cfg in a text editor (I like Edit Pad Pro, but you can use Windows Notepad just fine)
04. Type "Thread.MaxProcessorCount" (no quotes, no space before it)
05. add a space after the command, then type in the number of processors YOU HAVE (or less)
Quad Core = Thread.MaxProcessorCount 4
Six Core = Thread.MaxProcessorCount 6
Eight Core = Thread.MaxProcessorCount 8
etc...
BONUS!!! - You can also mess around with these settings as well:
Screenshot.Format png
UI.DrawEnable 1
PerfOverlay.DrawFps 0
PerfOverlay.DrawGraph 0
PerfOverlay.Enable 1
GameTime.MaxVariableFps 60.000000
PostProcess.DynamicAOEnable 1
Render.DrawScreenInfo 0
RenderDevice.Dx11Enable 1
RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit 1
RenderDevice.TripleBufferingEnable 1
WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable 1
WorldRender.FxaaEnable 1
WorldRender.MotionBlurEnable 1
WorldRender.SpotLightShadowmapEnable 1
WorldRender.SpotLightShadowmapResolution 1024
WorldRender.TransparencyShadowmapsEnable 1
06. SAVE... close... done with user.cfg
07. NEXT... Go to >>> C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\Battlefield 4\settings
08. Open "PROFSAVE_profile" with Notepad (or Edit Pad Pro... it's awesome)
09. Make a new line anywhere, bottom top, middle, doesn't matter...
10. Copy+Paste the same line you put in user.cfg... "Thread.MaxProcessorCount #" (no quotes, no space before it)
11. SAVE... CLOSE... Right-Click the file > Properties > Check READ ONLY... DONE
REMEMBER THIS: Origin will always ask you to use cloud data or local data after you change the PROFSAVE_profile... always select LOCAL DATA, or your file will be overwritten with whatever the last saved settings were. ;)
ANOTHER BONUS!!! - If you want a better way to change your settings (and more of them) outside of the game, check out the Battlefield 4 Settings Editor [battlefield.realmware.co.uk]. It's got a few more settings (some can easily be changed in user.cfg or PROFSAVE_profile, but it's a neat little program, and it lets you save profiles if you want different settings for maybe Singleplayer and Multiplayer... NOTE: if you do use the settings editor, then DO NOT check READ ONLY in PROFSAVE_profile or the program won't be able to save your settings. This also prevents any chance of accidentally reverting to defaults.

Will test this out in the next day or so (kids permitting) cheers for the info Growler :)
