another news story I missed...
about time steam acted on an issue that's been ongoing for years. but they still won't listen to joe public when it comes to existing service issues
edit: the comments on that article are quite amusing.

I think it's an awesome idea.
lol at some of the comments.
It surprises me that there are people who would balk at spending $5 on steam.
I spend $5 on steam in my sleep.
tbh, I can't conceive how anyone could be a steam user and have never spent $5 before.
If someone can't afford to spend $5, maybe they should stop spending all their time playing FTP games, go outside, mow someone's lawn for $5, go buy a real game.
* Some FTP games are ok

Missing a zero after it.

It needs to be at least 3 times bigger.

$500 dollars would be better

I don't think it's that hard to imagine a Steam user not having spent $5 actually on the store. There are plenty of games sold through retail that come with Steam and if you have a shitty connection, your primary mode of buying games would still be retail. I still prefer to buy retail for that reason, at least for the large games, and only buy through Steam when there's a big enough gap on the store to be worth waiting on the download.
But I guess Valve know the numbers on how many legit accounts have spent more than $5 and how many haven't and they know they're not affecting a whole lot of legit accounts to try and stop the phishers.

True,
But the restricted features aren't that much of a big deal anyway, friend invites, group chat, voting on greenlight etc.
I think the benefits far outweigh the minor inconvenience caused to some people.

i would of thought they would make it a f2p couldn't do trading of any kind..
