Title: [BF4] I know you've been asked this before but...
Post by: Arseynimz on January 29, 2014, 10:59:23 am
Can you guys fire me all the issues you see from connecting to Aussie servers. I have my list, but I just want to hear from this community (and wider if you want to spread the word please) about what you see as issues.

Yes, this is for the obvious reason - I am getting traction, but I need your help to support that traction.

How can I prove that my complete lack of ability to play an entire round without connection problems stem from not having local servers.

Tell me and I'll run the test and post results. I cannot play BF4 and I'd buy premium in a second if I thought I'd get any sort of stability.

Australia is full of shit players, we need a local challenge.

I like to play with my friends without the added ping of 100.

I dont have the international dataspeed

I often get "Game disconnected: could not join server" or "Game disconnected: no reply from the server". I've noticed a couple of aussie servers with rubberbanding when they're full meaning its almost impossible to fly jets etc. Then some servers just randomly crash.

I hate to be the devils advocate but with a ping of 30-40 and no real issue except those with relation to battlefield itself I have no issue with the servers only being in Aussie. Historically NZ servers have been crap to play on, sure playing with kiwi's was fun but not at the expense of a shit server.

Reason - want to play with a 7 ping.

It's community.

Without the NZ servers, the NZ based players are spread over hundreds of Australian based servers. By having a small handful of servers in New Zealand, we have a focal point. It means NZ based players can benefit from being a small gamer community (by international standards) and really enrich our player experience. You stab a random, meh, you stab a well known player you dip and rub it in.

With a strong community, it's almost like a 24/7 LAN. BF2 was exactly that.

Ping, stability, less aussies, and possible payments to kiwi hosters instead of aussie drongos.

Plus aussies are such whinging fucknuts, my god its like they are all zoon sales people named Kevin.

Because despite what DICE say, latency is vital. When you have two players of comparable skill, the player with 10ms ping will kill the player with 50ms ping pretty much every time.

Because some Australian servers kick NZ'ers

Because we've always had our own BF servers, and we're not yet another bloody state of Australia

Because it's so much more fun teabagging the locals

What sort if latency are most of you seeing?
What server host do you prefer, and why not the others?
Can you post up a few tracert's to show me hop counts and breaks?

Thanks guys, it's all good stuff.

This is the BW server in sydney (same sever x3)

For me, it's not about the latency. What I mentioned above is what is important to me.

I disagree Benlav. Same player, same rig, will perform better with a 10ms ping than a 40-50ms ping.

40-70ms for AEST timezone servers. At work so can't provide tracert's etc, will try and remember tonight.

Yeah but for me that isn't an issue. I'm not saying it's not an issue for others, but for me I don't really care about it is what I am saying.

For example, if all my mates were playing on Aussie servers, but I got a better connection to an NZ server, I would play the Aussie server because that's where my mates are. So what I am saying is that latency isn't my #1 concern.

Try using pathping also, it will also show where the problem is in the path

Basically the problem is physics. Using the maths from the below link, and assuming our PC/server combo is at the landing point's at either end of the southern cross cable (which obviously they aren't), the speed of light latency across the ditch is ~23ms return. Our network gear can't realistically operate at the speed of light, but it's getting close. The "Fault" is the combination of increased physical distance and increased routing (every additional hop will add a small degree of latency).

I'm usually at around 60-110 latency when I play on aussie servers, Flying jets gets real shit for me a lot of the time with invisible speed bumps and rubber banding.
I'd play more if I know I'd be seeing familiar faces and get to know people like I would on a local NZ server, and aussie servers that kick kiwis suck too.

My ping is usually around 65 to aus servers. I normally pick 32p servers. I play on the eGL HC servers (the inf only HC ones, seem to crash often though) BW server, or maybe DFG (they seem to have rubberband issues on larger player servers and maps - especially langcam dam). Have found a server called The Drunken Soldiers and they have low vehicle respawn which is fun. I avoid playing on some games on net servers as they have 110 ping being on the other side of aus or something?

Playing with aussies is like playing with your cousins, it's fun for a while but they're you're cousins and you get sick of them after a while.

I miss playing with other kiwi's.

Ping doesn't really bother me, I play for fun.

my ping stays on around 40 and dont have many Servers issues if any once in..

For me to Play on NZ Servers ....I need.

regular Admins on to get rid of tards...not have to wait 3 days to get response.

Server to be up and fast and stable ..better my ping to oz Servers.

A couple of my servers I have in favourites I have had the admin say in global chat....Everything ok fellas anything need Doing ?? and it quite often...so thats good to see ...and active ..proactive admin.

I would be happy for nz to have a few really good Servers than a lot of crap under used servers.

Agreed.

Connection issues I have experienced are not as a result of Oz servers but usual battlelog lack of testing :)
Low ping is always attractive :)
