General Chat / Minimum wage @ $18 per hour?
« on: February 11, 2013, 04:56:53 pm »
Apparently there is going to be a push of some sorts to publisize a minimum wage of $18 per hour. Not only do I genuinely believe this would reduce the labour force - with fewer workers earning more, I also believe it is a waste of time and energy. I'm curious to know whether there is anyone here who believes the opposite? Minus the trolls and abuse, I'd really like to know how they believe it won't break the economy.

General Chat / Telecom's 'suspicious' offer
« on: February 02, 2013, 02:44:31 pm »
Anyone here with Telecom? I'm currently on a plan which is about 120gb for I think $105 or something, plus the tivo scam on top of that. Anyway, I received an offer in the post this week, offering to up my allowance to 150gb for $6 less. Not only that, in they are offering the chance to win a samsung 3 if you do it before sometime soon. Then in the fine print, it says if you switch plans, you can't revert back. So naturally I'm really suspicious. I cant figure out why I wouldn't want to get more data for less money. But I can't seem to figure out what their angle is... anyone else know?

edit: just to clarify, that includes the land line. I never really use it so I think local calls are free.

So I've been tossing it up for a while. I'm still not sure whether it is worth the $60 or whatever it is. Is there still enough activity on the Oz and NZ servers for the expansions? the armoured kill sounds good.

So - what's the thoughts? Is it worth buying? I'm only on rank 36 so I've got plenty of room to rank up...

btw - talking PC here. I already have the B2K pack and that seems fairly flat in terms of activity.

edit: the premium download is $48 USD (NZD?) on origin. if that is a 'swayer'.

General Chat / www.redhotpawn.com - safe for work - online chess

if you're keen, sign up and challenge me - benlav

It's simply online chess, but, you don't have to sit infront of a computer for hours on end playing. You might challenge me now, in an hour I make a move, then tomorrow you might make your corresponding move. Game could take a week or so, but you only do it when you have a quick minute. Might get a few moves in a day depending how you play. If you want to do sit down and 100% focus chess, this isn't it.

You can set it up so you get emailed when your opponent moves. It also has a handy iphone specific page (not an app).

So if you are keen, sign up and post your nick here for the world to see.

I'm surprised there isn't a lot about this in here...

So with Frank at the helm... what should happen?

The commonwealth say

Quote
The Commonwealth is committed to a set of fundamental values spelt out in the Harare Commonwealth Declaration of 1991, at the core of which is belief in and adherence to democratic principles.

We promote democracy through advocacy of democratic principles and practical action to help make them a reality.

So they've been suspended since the coup, now they're likely to be kicked out of the commonwealth. What's the best solution here?

General Chat / Who would you cast as Jack Reacher?
« on: May 08, 2008, 03:00:57 pm »
Ok,

so this is a fairly common question amongst the Lee Child fans. I've read numerous interviews of Lee Child, this question is asked in ALL of them.

If you don't know who Jack Reacher is, please leave... Your opinion is not valid!

Nah seriously, for those that haven't read any Jack Reacher novels, I suggest you go out and buy Killing Floor, it's the first Jack Reacher novel and is extremely graphic.

Anyway, I was first thinking Tom Beringer, Xtinct rightly pointed out he's too small. I then saw a photo of him from 2007 and he's a pie now.

But the face of Tom B from Sniper is what I picture. Lee Child reckons a younger Clint Eastwood, even he isn't big enough.

Oh btw, your responses will go completely un-noticed, in fact, if you think about it too much, you'll probably be disappointed when a movie is FINALLY made and its not the person you think will suit the role... (Killing Floor was initially in pre-production stages but was dropped for some reason).
