What would people recommend for polishing and taking care of the paintwork. Also something to stop raindrop reduise forming on my car?
Alos, and products I should advoid?
-
What's rediuse?
Also, Alos?
How do we avoid them?
-
use mothers/macguires .
-
Yeah I have found mothers to be good over the years, also the interior spray has a wonderful almondy fragrance mmmmmm
-
I use macguires. Personally keep finding that quality carnubra wax gives the best and longest lasting protection, despite all these synthetics coming out.
If this is your first time, would recommend getting a clay kit and going over the car with that first. Then paint cleaner, polish, wax.
Then maintain the wax with meguires quik detailer. This will keep the fresh waxed look/ feel and shed the water off the paint like a duck. Also get a product for the windscreen like rain clear which sheds water off the windscreen. You look like the man when you're driving through heavy rain and don't need to use the wipers.

And for christ sake get a chamois. Dry the car after cleaning it.
-
I don't think SM has time for quite that level of car care.
-
The above is a once yearly process. Then just wax monthly and quik detail weekly (takes 2 mins).
If he doesn't have time for that, he needs to divorce his wife and quit his job.
-
Also, Alos?
It's spanish for also. Maybe.

I've been using a cat, but chamois would work much better, and my arms wouldn't get clawed as much.

Yes I do, I spent lots of money on my car so I want to take good care of it. Plus I like shiny things.
-
I bet you spend more money on your wife.
Does she ever get a good waxing?

Obviously clean it before any of this happens. Also, depending on the colour, you might want to degrease it, use a bit of turps to get the tar off.
-
Car like black like Berg's car.
-
Brake fluid will take that nasty coating right off.
-
Do not listen to Black Heart.
SM- if you are black go for macguires black detailer rather than quik detailer.

Thanks
I am pretty black. It's useful when i'm fighting crime lords.
A applied the rainx stuff.
Now I want it to rain, but it doesn't look like it will at all this week.
-
What about the rest of the car?
You will still look like a loser if you're windscreen is shedding water but the rest of the car is not.
People will probably laugh at you as you're driving along.
-
Out of interest do you lot buy online, or just head down to supercheap/repco. I find my local supercheap has a rather lacking selection.
-
It rained today. That rainx stuff is boss.

Where abouts are you?
-
The end of the World is and a shiny car are incompatible imo.

How else did you think I had Swedish womens beach vollyball teams chasing me all the time?
-
Don't listen to berg, it was the ukranian team chasing him. They caught him too, he will never be the same again. The things they did with brake fluid.
-
Ok I lie.
It was the Belarus women's shot put team.
-
You have my sympathies. I hope the ACC sensitive claims unit aren't faxing your notes across the country as we type.
-
Where abouts are you?
Auckland/ botany supercheap.
-
Auckland/ botany supercheap.
I'm in Manukau, if you find a good place let me know.
I pick up some thigns from Mitre 10 botany, but thier range is not very large either.

I clean my car using the wash/wax from Meguiars
This is still probably the best wheel cleaner I have found for easily removing the break dust that my car makes almost before it is started - http://www.meguiars.co.nz/G9524/
This is the wash - http://www.meguiars.co.nz/G17748I/
I get given shit for not actually doing proper cut n polish efforts or clay bars etc - but that is too much effort. I generally take it to a place to get that work done - and in general they do a shit house job and I vow I will do it myself the next time, and then I don't
-
Haven't cleaned my car properly for over a year, its had the odd brushless car wash, but It was a nice day yesterday so I went all out, took me about 6 hours, looked like new again
This morning on the way to work.. Raining, roadworks, heaps of dirty roadspray .. Now I remember why I don't bother.
-
Hahaha. I washed and waxed it on Saturday.
Drove to Hamilton on Sunday, now windscreens covered in dead bugs.
-
Thats why you look at the weather forecast first.
And the plauge forecast.

If I looked at the weather forecast first, I would never ever do it "Oh looks like it's going to rain in two weeks time, oh well don't see the point" haha

A real man would punch the dirt and grime off, I am disappoint.

Took my car in for a WOF. It failed.
Turns out it needs tyres.
Any Recommendations?

My typical driving consists of driving on at motorway at 10km/h then slamming my breaks when someone cuts in front.

Firestone all the way! (I am biased though as I have a few acquaintances who work at or run stores)
I was on a budget the last time I needed tyres and got some cheap Dunlop directional s, I have regretted it ever since :(
Anywhere near Onehunga? If so I can see what deal I can get you on that size.

I would recommend tyres.

Tony's tyre service.
They treat me like the king that I am.
-
Speaking of car products (which I assume we are cos it is the name of the thread derp), my japanese friend brought me one of these once
(http://www.japantoday.com/images/size/200x/2009/09/caritem.jpg)
can't figure out if I should bother to use it though. You have to cart this thing around taking up space in the glovey, then actually remember to pull it out when time to deposit fries.
Thoughts?

Just go to burger king, get a far better burger and your fries will fit right into the passengers cup holder!

A while ago I got a wax attack buffer type thingy for car polishing. When used with good wax it makes a massive difference. Wax wise, I use mother's carnuba (sp) or ICE car polish.
-
I've found a really good (if not unorthodox) cure for scratches on interior plastics; vaseline...
Sounds odd, but putting a little on the scratch and lightly rubbing it in, waiting for an hour or so, then wiping off the excess should leave the scratches much less obvious, if not completely gone.
-
So, one of those new tyres I bought. It got a puncture.
Had to buy a new one :(
I only got it on the 9th May 2013 as you can see 5 posts above.
You should stop when they throw out those spike strips.
ffs, clicked edit instead of answer.
-
Tin foil and cola for cleaning chrome.
Put the cola on, rub off with tin foil.
Rinse.

Especially since you would be using $600 tyres.
Spacemonkey would be using those cheap eco-saver tyres that are made of plastic.
-
I don't use tyres, I drive around on the rims.
