In order to open a .dem file you must download it, put it into your garrysmod folder (located at Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/garrysmod/garrysmod). Once that is done open Gmod and type into your console "playdemo EVILLOLandWIlliamMassRDM.dem"
Note, you will be disconnected from the server you are on and the demo will play, you can access everything in the console and the playerlist (tab) as the round progresses
