Asus Direct CUII 290 The king of cards has arrived. No card can compete with these 290's custom cooled with price vs performance. I will be waiting for the Sapphire edition.
Your thoughts gogo :D

Dat CUII. Awesome stuff.

Seriously though, fuck Asus for ditching the triple-slot DCUII coolers. I'm just gonna hang onto my 7970 DCUII for a while longer, maybe get a second one soon.

What's wrong with getting rid of the triple-slot coolers? Seemed like a waste of space to me.

Yeah they arrived where I am a while ago; advised a friend to get the Sapphire Tri-X 290 and it's as amazing as Anandtech says. I have to agree with OP; there's no competition; if you can afford one, a custom cooled 290 is simply the card to get at present.

is it worth getting 2 for CF or better of adding more ram or upping CPU?

No need to get two grolwer, you only need one of these bad boys. Later on sure if you plan on gaming at 4k resolutions, but for now there is nothing that will stress enough to bother with two of them.
As Philo said that Sapphire toxic tri cooler = Best card money can buy atm.
On the note of upping CPU no need on that either. Pretty much CPU power is a non issue at current with how far we have come with the Sandybridge breakthrough.
More ram, not sure on this one but I have never felt I have needed more than 8gig.
