General Chat / The Year of the Smartwatch
« on: March 12, 2013, 09:44:47 am »
Ive not worn a watch since I had a cellphone, but this year will see the release of some nifty new devices that will nicely compliment our phones. Would be nice to not have to pull the phone out of the pocket to check notifications or read a quick txt message.

Anyone got a smartwatch? I'm keen to get one, but the current releases are all a bit below par. Once they take off the next generation should be far superior.

General Chat / How will the Christopher Dorner story end?
« on: February 12, 2013, 08:22:49 am »
Christopher Dorner loves Stephen Seagal movies.

However, after escaping into the mountains he has now entered the arena of Rambo and John Matrix.

Which of the scenes below most accurately describes how this epic story will end? (replace generic bad guys with LAPD)

Takes down entire LAPD using truck mounted 50.cal, returns to his ranch to live a peaceful life

Long time forum members will have read my thread on how all Stephen Seagal movies are actually just the same movie.

Now, this ex LA cop Christopher Dorner is trying to live out Stephen Seagals movie for real.

He's a good cop. In a bad mood. He's a cop who believes no one is above the law.

Which Stephen Seagal movie is Dorner most likely trying to live up to?

Pistol Whipped

Matt is an elite ex-cop whose life has gone down hill since he was kicked off the Force. After a rough encounter with a mysterious henchman, Matt is brought face to face with his only chance at reclaiming his life and clearing his gambling debt markers. Only after he gets started on his new tasks does he recognize good guy from bad. Meanwhile Matt's love for his only daughter helps him battle one of his greatest enemies, alcoholism.

Above the Law

Seagal is Nico Toscani, an Italian immigrant, American patriot, ex-CIA agent, aikido specialist, and unorthodox Chicago policeman. He is as committed to his job as he is to his personalized brand of justice: expert and thorough bone-crushing. When the FBI orders his squad to ignore the mysterious shipment of military explosives they seized from a notorious narcotics dealer, Nico wages war on those responsible.

The Keeper

Roland Sallinger is an LA cop who after nearly being killed by his greedy partner, and eventually being forced to retire for medical reasons, flees to San Antonio, Texas, after being asked to work as a bodyguard for the daughter of a wealthy businessman. The businessman had been a colleague of Sallinger years before, when they were both cops. When mobsters kidnap the businessman's daughter, he hunts them down to rescue her and protect her.

Exit Wounds

Orin Boyd, a tough cop in an inner-city precinct discovers a web of dirty cops and corruption.

Hard to Kill

Mason Storm (Seagal) is a Los Angeles police detective who is investigating a mob meeting taking place by a pier. Seven years later, Mason wakes from his coma. Andy (LeBrock), one of the two nurses monitoring him, makes a phone call, which is intercepted by one of the corrupt police officers who want to see Mason dead.

Attack Force

Marshall Lawson loses his strike-team in a cold-blooded and seemingly random attack. After this he takes it upon himself to investigate the suspicious circumstances of the brutal killings. Soon he uncovers CTX Majestic, a covert military operation so secret, that now the military wants Marshall eliminated. Resolute in his pursuit, Marshall engages in a merciless battle with a drug dealer operation that appears to be secretly funded by a rogue arm of the military.

On Deadly Ground

Mystical martial artist/environmental agent takes on a ruthless oil corporation.

A Dangerous Man

After serving 6 years for a crime he didn't commit, Shane Daniels is released from jail with an apology from the State of Arizona. Within hours of his freedom, he unluckily bears witness to a cop killing by Chinese mafia who have a kidnapped girl and a bag of drugmoney. In this action packed thrill ride, Shane agreed to help the girl to get her uncle back to safety. To do that he gets some help from Russian mafia, whose boss owns him a favor for saving his son from the Chinese cop killing action that happened before.

Clemintine

Kim is a Taekwondo champion who decides to give up his fighting career for good in order to take care of his daughter Sa Rang. But when an evil gambling kingpin kidnaps Sa Rang, Kim must agree to fight in a rigged boxing match in exchange for Sa Rang's freedom. Kim now finds himself face to face with "King of the Cage" fighter Jack Miller. A man who has never lost.

General Chat / Man on Fire
« on: February 10, 2013, 02:39:03 pm »
There is currently a massive manhunt going on in 'Murica for ex-navy, ex-cop Christopher Dorner. Dorner was the perfect cop...highly trained, completely dedicated, and had the highest of morals. But then the system let him down, and booted him out on the street. Now he is on a mission, to track down and kill all those corrupt cops who did him wrong.

He has posted a lengthily manifesto here detailing the reasons for his attack.

Quote from: Christopher Dorner
The Violence of action will be HIGH. I am the reason TAC alert was established. I will bring unconventional and asymmetrical warfare to those in LAPD uniform whether on or off duty. ISR is my strength and your weakness. You will now live the life of the prey. Your RD's and homes away from work will be my AO and battle space. I will utilize every tool within INT collections that I learned from NMITC in Dam Neck. You have misjudged a sleeping giant. There is no conventional threat assessment for me. JAM, New Ba'ath party, 1920 rev BGE, ACM, AAF, AQAP, AQIM and AQIZ have nothing on me. Do not deploy airships or gunships. SA-7 Manpads will be waiting. As you know I also own Barrett .50′s so your APC are defunct and futile.

This will be a war of attrition and a Pyrrhic and Camdean Victory for myself. You may have the resources and manpower but you are reactive and predictable in your op plans and TTP's. I have the strength and benefits of being unpredictable, unconventional, and unforgiving. Do not waste your time with briefs and tabletops.

Quote
Don't honor these fallen officers/dirtbags. When your family members die, they just see you as extra overtime at a crime scene and at a perimeter. Why would you value their lives when they clearly don't value yours or your family members lives? I've heard many officers who state they see dead victims as ATV's, Waverunners, RV's and new clothes for their kids. Why would you shed a tear for them when they in return crack a smile for your loss because of the impending extra money they will receive in their next paycheck for sitting at your loved ones crime scene of 6 hours because of the overtime they will accrue. They take photos of your loved ones recently deceased bodies with their cellphones and play a game of who has the most graphic dead body of the night with officers from other divisions. This isn't just the 20 something year old officers, this is the 50 year old officers with significant time on the job as well who participate.

Quote
To those children of the officers who are eradicated, your parent was not the individual you thought they were. As you get older, you will see the evidence that your parent was a tyrant who loss their ethos and instead followed the path of moral corruptness. They conspired to hide and suppress the truth of misconduct on others behalf's. Your parent will have a name and plaque on the fallen officers memorial in D.C. But, In all honesty, your parents name will be a reminder to other officers to maintain the oath they swore and to stay along the shoreline that has guided them from childhood to that of a local, state, or federal law enforcement officer.

Suppressing the truth will leave to deadly consequences for you and your family. There will be an element of surprise where you work, live, eat, and sleep. I will utilize ISR at your home, workplace, and all locations in between. I will utilize OSINT to discover your residences, spouses workplaces, and children's schools. IMINT to coordinate and plan attacks on your fixed locations. Its amazing whats on NIPR. HUMINT will be utilized to collect personal schedules of targets. I never had the opportunity to have a family of my own, I'm terminating yours. XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, and BOR members Look your wives/husbands and surviving children directly in the face and tell them the truth as to why your children are dead.

Quote
ournalist, I want you to investigate every location I resided in growing up. Find any incidents where I was ever accused of being a bully. You won't, because it doesn't exist. It's not in my DNA. Never was. I was the only black kid in each of my elementary school classes from first grade to seventh grade in junior high and any instances where I was disciplined for fighting was in response to fellow students provoking common childhood schoolyard fights, or calling me a nigger or other derogatory racial names.

I ask that all journalist investigating this story submit request for FOIA with the LAPD to gain access to the BOR transcripts which occurred from 10/08 to 2/09. There, you will see that a video was played for the BOR members of Mr. XXXX who suffers from Schizophrenia and Dementia stating that he was kicked by a female officer. That video evidence supports my claim that XXXX kicked him twice in the upper body and once in the face. I would like all journalist to also request copies of all reports that I had written while employed by LAPD. Whether in the academy, or during my 3 years as a police officer. There are DR#'s attached to each report (investigative report) that I have ever written so they all exist. A FOIA request will most likely be needed to access these at Parker center or at the Personnel/Records. Judge my writin/grammar skills for yourself.

General Chat / Rise of the Planet of the Neanderthals
« on: January 22, 2013, 09:18:22 pm »
A harvard professor is looking for women he can inseminate with neanderthals and bring back our beloved ancestors.

I am very excited about this. Neanderthals look a fair bit like us, but are just way stronger and dumber. We could send them out to fight our wars for us. Or send them out on the streets at night to beat up drunk hooligans and eat homeless people.

Plus it would teach those damned religious people a thing or two about where we come from.

Was epic. No boring bits whatsoever. No cheese. No cringing. No love story.

Hasn't done so well in US box office, and they need 50 million to make a sequel.

So if we all go see it twice, it should be ok.

Favourite bit:

Spoiler :
Quote
Dredd walking out of the building at the end.

Boss: "What happened in there"

Dredd: *shrugs* "Drug bust. Perps were uncooperative"

Like it was just a normal day. What a boss.

Technology & Hardware / Anyone use Windows Phone 7?
« on: May 10, 2012, 08:32:25 pm »
Just been playing with my brothers new Nokia Lumia 800, and it has to be the sexiest hardware/software combo I have seen in my life.

I am tempted to get one, but still remember the disaster that was my attempt at switching to Android.

O
f course I am worried about the limited app development. While I can live without dominoes or trademe, iOS has a huge array of aviation apps that are invaluable to me.

However iOS is looking very tired, and I like sexy things.

Does anyone use this OS? Are you satisfied?

Technology & Hardware / An iOS fans journey into the world of Android
« on: September 02, 2011, 07:51:35 pm »
NOTE: This thread is the genuine thoughts and feelings of a long time iOS user switching to Android for the first time. It is here to help other iOS users if they are considering switching to Android. The editing will be crap. It will just be my thoughts, jotted down as they come. This is not an anti-Android thread. I have sold my iPhone, so it is in my best interest to fall in love with Android.

I've done it.

After four years of iOS, the lure of Android was too much.

Frankly I was bored of iOS. What do I have to look forward to in iOS5? A decent notification system. Well my iPhone is jailbroken, so I've had a decent notification system for years. I'm sick of fart apps, and childrens games which dominate the App Stores Top 20. For my first two years of owning an iPhone, I checked the top 20 every day. But now the innovation has ended. Everything has been made. I havn't checked the top 20 in months.

It was time for change.

So I just unboxed my Samsung Galaxy S2.
My immediate reaction?

Unbelievably, disappointment. This thing is 'tinny'. Its extremely light, and extremely plastic. After carrying a very heavy, very solid feeling iPhone for so long, this feels like a toy which is going to break. The back cover is a piece of plastic about 0.00001mm thick which you must click off with your fingernail to install the battery. While clicking it back in, it felt like all the little tabs were breaking off. I cant believe I spent so much money on this toy. I should have waited for the new iPhone to come out, so I could compare. Damn it.

But anyway, this thread is about the OS, not the phone. I'm sure the Galaxy will grow on me once I learn its true power.

My first thoughts upon turning on the phone was that there was a lot of 'colour', and variation. On the dull iOS, I always knew where to look, and what I was supposed to do. I can immediately see why older people, or not so tech savvy people prefer the very easy to use iOS. Android is going to take some learning. The default keyboard is absolutely terrible. I keep hitting the wrong button. The animations are ugly. Double tapping the space bar does not leave a full stop and a space like I am used to. There is no autocorrect!!? I open the web browser. It feels clunky. It scrolls too fast. There is no rotation animation (probably due to Apple patents, I know). Never the less, its not visually satisfying. The GetSome website looks fantastic on the big screen. There are flash advertisements! Great! But flash does look pretty cool. Typing in another web address on the crappy keyboard frustrates me, so I give up and go to my computer to start this review. Going back to the home screen, closing things seems to 'lag'. Wtf? I have one of the fastest phones in the world.

After 10 minutes, my impression is poor. But I know I havn't even begun. More to come.

General Chat / ASB Bank are a bunch of arseholes.

Nice work arseholes, I have a healthy $1.04 in my account and you sting me into the the negative, then you sting me again for being in the negative!

Good one jerkoff's, there'll be no food for me all week. The funny thing is, I never used to get these fee's while I was working. Now that I have no proof of income they give me no overdraft.

Great thinking tosser's; "Hey, he's got no money now, so lets charge him more!"

Arsewipes, they stung me in my other account aswell so that's $40 for being a grand total of about $2 overdraft.

I bet they have a little man who sits there all day waiting for someone to get down to $1 so he can charge them into the negative then charge them again for being in the negative, I bet he loves it to.

That little prick is sitting there right now laughing at me and my -$41.87

I'm sick of this bullshit, whats a good bank I can change to that looks after poor people.
