I think so, Team NZ had some F1 car specialists involved in terms of aerodynamics vs weight etc, people called our boat big and bulky and would be slow......

NZ are clearly better sailors as well, the time in the boat shows, I havent heard Barker once ask for more form his team, it's always "great work" "clean gibe" etc where as spittle I have heard say "Come on guys we need to do better than that"

It's a competition of boat design as well as sailing skill. Just like how Formula one is a competition of car design and driving skill.


That said, if the raced each others boats, it would make for an awesome race, i'd watch.

Yeah, I've been thinking about how much of it is the team and how much of it is just the fact that the boat is better designed.

They should do what rugby does after the match and change shirts. Swap boats and see if either team are only as good as the tools.

I think race 6 showed we are a much slicker team then them as well. Cut down their lead pretty clinically, and capitalized once we were in the box seat. It might be a touch closer, where the boats matched, I think we would still come up trumps most races (maybe 20-30 second wins rather than near 1 minute).

I believe the choppier/higher winds bring the boats closer together. The lighter flat conditions hurt USA and give us that real upwind advantage.
