Title: Australia's GST
Post by: rjhall01 on July 09, 2015, 09:45:46 pm
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is currently 10% in Australia. This overall has its benefits such as easy mathematical calculations but, this has led the government to increase taxes in other areas. This has had some negative effects on Australia such as selling off our power grids and taxing more and more things such as divorce. I believe that the government should raise the GST to 20% and remove some of the fees that are affecting the less wealthy (e.g reduce/remove personal income tax for people on minimum wage). What do you think the Government should do?

Take every banker, politician, stock trader, economist, corporate raider, etc and hang them from the nearest power pole. Rinse and repeat, then rebuild the financial system from the ground up in a equitable, fair way that prevents greed and capitalism.

I'm of the opposite view, I think GST should be reduced, and taxes increased in other areas to compensate. To give NZ products and services more of a level playing field to overseas ones.

No, not a communist.

I've always had a bit of a socialist streak thou, and as I get older I'm increasingly opposed to the raw naked greed of capitalism. Watching the rich and the corporations literally buy the laws they want isn't helping.

No it's not, it's dreaming.

There can never be a fair and equitable financial system that prevents greed and capitalism. So might as just make the best of what we have.

Yeah, there never can be a 'perfect' system and your right, we should make the best of the situation :)
