The idea of my post was to get you stfu about faith, to nip it in the butt, to make you realise how pointless your comments really are. As is your comment about perspective - i need no lession in perspective - i wrote the fucken post and i chose my words carefully.
Do you actually have anything to contribute apart from mindless dribble? Come to think of it you're right as usual Dirty Ape, Mr Chipp whether you can prove people who don't believe in a god have faith in their day to day lives is irrelevant. If you proved those people did, it would not have anything to do with God existing or not. Good Day... well for the Faith debate anyway :sunnies:

Surely all they needed was your so called evidence -
I bet your "evidence" would have looked a bit thin if you were on that plane that crashed.  There is a difference between being %100 safe and having evidence that you have 50+ billion to 1 chance of a fatal plane crash. Here I'll make another analogy the chances of winning 1'st division lottery are let's just say 1 million to 1, now I have no faith at all in winning the lottery because the chance of that happening are so small just like they are for being in a fatal plane crash. And about the "childish insult", just because more than one person says it's real doesn't mean it is. And I do beleive in the possibilty of life somewhere other than earth for the simple fact of humans being on Earth. Thats evidence enough for me to believe in the possibility of there being other forms of life elsewhere.

Who said I had evidence of the existance of God? Where did I claim this? You didn't but you do believe in him. The only people I know who have imaginary friends are 5 yearolds and people in institutes.

That is a rediculous statement, and you're only fooling yourself. The fact of the matter is that planes crash and people die as a result. Air travel is safe, and yes, more safe than travelling in a car, but planes still crash, and people still die. Boarding a plane is an act of faith, by placing trust in the airline's staff that they have performed their function properly.
You said in a previous post that ther was no evidence of a hypothetical plane not crashing yet I gave you evidence of the chances of a fatal plane crash. You do realise that plane crews have to be trained before they take passengers don't you? If I wanted to I'm sure I could ask to see this pilots license or whatever they have and that there would be evidence of this paticular pilot crashing. I mean he has to be alive in the first place if he's even going to board the plane. Pity the 21 killed in Indonesia recently didn't have your so called "evidence that the plane will not crash and kill me". Pity they didn't have this faith thing your talking about either.

....Soo to stay on topic Brendan where's your evidence of God? I have never once seen god reach down and pat me on the back or someone else for that matter.
Yet I have seen planes fly, oil and water emuslify (OMG magic), and many more things that you probably say require faith to believe in things working.
When it all boils down science has the answers.
On another point about science being hypocritical and constantly disproving itself, when was the last time that the Bible proved science wrong? I think you should look at Baldy's diagram with less of a closed mind that those people who believe in the "religion of Atheism" are knowing for having.

New Zealands safety exceeds that shown above, we and Australia have some of the best aviation safety stats in the world. Yeah I thought so but best to give him the worst possible results possible so he doesn't bring them up later and whine about it.

Noone said anything about a "leap" of faith. By boarding the plane, you excercise faith, and a confidence that you will arrive safely at your designation. Your confidence is based around trust that the airline staff have fulfilled their duties properly. You have no evidence that this has happened, so boarding that plane is an act of faith.
I sure as hell do have evidence that the plane will not crash and kill me. I live right by Wellington airport and have never seen a planecrash but I have seen plenty of planes takeoff and land safely. Also... Here's just a few stats (evidence) that I have about flying Fatalities per million trips Odds of being killed on a single trip Airliner (Part 121) 0.019 52.6 million to 1 Commuter Airline (Part 135 scheduled) 1.72 581,395 to 1 Commuter Plane (Part 135 - Air taxi on demand) 6.10 163,934 to 1 General Aviation (Part 91) 13.3 73,187 to 1 http://www.planecrashinfo.com/cause.htm Now where's your evidence of God?

heh i think your taking the piss. im not religious but i have to think theres something more for me to be able comprehend/make sense of the world around us etc etc. im not as knowlegable on the subject as many of you here, and it definately makes for good reading on the account. i find it hard to just ignore evolution or say its a myth so i try to mix it all in one haha as best i can....that was a summary of what i reckon is true. I'm pretty much the opposite and try to just worry about the present and future rather than how I came to be. I recently came to the conclusion that the purpose of life was to survive and thats that. But as for big bangs and God/s I really don't know what to believe so I just like to sit on the fence and/or argue for both sides.

thanks man... I certainly do have an open mind... show me some evidence and I'll certainly look at. There is no solid evidence that whatever happened this way or that I could provide evidence such as the link between our(humans) DNA and Orangotangs but that still doesn't prove that there was a big bang. the big bang theory (there is only one theory on how it came to bang) I can't fatherm how something accidently came out of nothing??? If you read my post I said that a different version is that of infinite, it didn't come from nothing it doesn't have a start nor does it have a finish it just is. Sure that is hard to believe but so is the Bible when taken literally I hope you don't think less of me because of my view.... If you have questions PM me.. I will answer If you read my other post you would now that I used to go to a Catholic college and was taught r.e there I know this doesn't mean I'm an expert but I do know about both sides of the story.

Dustow you might want to think about the fact that the Big bang theory has many variations such as that of infinite. We COULD be living in a universe that is just in one massive cycle BANG grow,evolve,grow,evolve universe expands implodes big bang again over and over again. I'm not saying this is true but you are telling people to be open minded while you are blissfully ignoring your own advice. Sure God could exist but s/he/it/they also might not.

You do realise that Genesis from the bible was never meant to be a factual guide to the creation of the universe. It just got perverted and some idiots believed that it was to be taken verbatim. Some fool even calculated the date of creation based upon it's contents. And whats worse, even bigger fools believed him!
I doubt many religious people believe genesis is a factual description of the creation of the universe. Just literal creationists. I completely agree, althougth I am not Catholic I used to go to a catholic school the r.e (reliqious education.) teacher there said pretty much the exact same thing. Alot of the stories infact pretty much all of them are not literal but rather are symbolic and have morales to them ie The story of Adam and Eve is not saying that we are all inbred but rather telling us to not give in to temptation or believe talking snakes. Also "The world was built in seven days" is obviously stupid when taking lterally and thinking of OUR/HUMAN'S perception of time. Six days could be six million years for some other race/god. Again I am not Catholic or Christian I'm just tryig to clear things up for some people.
