General Chat / Harmoney
« on: January 31, 2015, 12:11:36 pm »
Came across this after Trademe invested some money into it, and sent me a email about it. Pretty much a peer to peer lending platform for NZ.

Looking at their interest rates (https://www.harmoney.com/how-it-works/interest-rates-fees) it seems like it gives a reasonably decent returns, but its a bit hard to gauge the true meaning of this risk gauge system. Another P2P site seems to have a similar system, but said its down to a proprietary model.

Anyone invested any money with these guys?

Technology & Hardware / Advanced C# Tutorials
« on: March 12, 2014, 04:02:11 pm »
I am looking for some decent c# tutorials which go beyond the basics. My knowledge set is enough to do most of the "basic" stuff (web interfacing, interacting with forms, multithreading, linq etc), but as soon as i start looking into more advanced stuff (delgates, enums, DLLimport, events, serial handling etc) I generally get lost pretty fast. Which ends up with me either copying a whole bunch of code i have no idea how to use, or having to google each part and get a half understanding.

So wondering if there is any good resources for learning the more complex (atleast to me) things, in a similar format that is readily available for learning basic coding. So something which works you through the concepts step by step, rather than finding 4 concepts you dont understand in one code example.

Technology & Hardware / Cheap ssd
« on: June 08, 2013, 02:00:50 pm »
Looking to get a ssd for my dad. just looking for something that provides good bang for buck. Its been a while since i bought mine, so i thought it would be worthwhile asking here what the current best choice is.  I know when i was looking before the intel 330 was a good pick for its price, but i see the crucial m4 is only 20 odd more now.

In terms of his usage, pretty much looking for fast startup. Doesn't overly multitask, but likes to have his email, web browser and music open. Not really running anything which is really demanding on write speeds, so i am guessing read is more important here.

Cheers

Technology & Hardware / Router Recommendations
« on: January 03, 2013, 12:50:10 pm »
Hey all,
Looking to buy a new router because my old one is going a bit shit. Just after one with built in adsl2+ modem, 4port+, wifi b/g/n and a fairly usable router page. By usable router page, i mean something which lets me see basic diagnostics, attached devices, firewall rules etc.

My previous router was a netgear, so i am leaning towards them because it served me well in the past. But let me know if there are any good recommendations.

Price range I am not sure about, but looking around I am guessing 100-200 seems to be the range you need to pay.
