well said verrt. Like i said in the first post: game developers dont quit on a profitable idea

I have come to realise that the quality of games is determined by just another personality attribute.

While i was reading the steam forums i have come across alot of trolls who complain about games and cannot appreciate a single good point of anything. But as i compared troll by troll i found that none of them like the same thing, one would say HL2 is the only satasfying game and for good reason. At the same time he will call Far cry crap and cheap and for good reason.

Another will say HL2 was crap and cheap for good reason. while thinking Far Cry had perfect detail for good reason. Not one troll could come to agreement.

This clearly cannot be the fault of the games themselves, its all how people interpret them.

Further evidence comes from the "best games" thread, according to that all games are the best game. This means there is no real "best" game, neither can there be bad games.

Some of you will say Gameplay > Graphics

Some of you will say Physics > Detail

None of us will totaly agree on which is which, it all depends on your induvidual gaming taste.

Freelancer was an awesome game online, the best part was that its made for modding.

Almost all tactical data was comprised of easily edited ini files; factions, systems, ships. Everything could be changed. I have created my own weapons, bases etc for that game.

i was one of the first players to join ICONZ FL server, ahh those were good times.

Looks like they rule over Killer as well.

It takes emagination to appreciate emagination.

:edit: if FPS is overused it will eventually bore, then the old RTS, RPG and simulations (once forgotten) will look new and fascinating. They wont die out for as long as gaming veterans will remember them.

Darwinia was crappy looking by intention, its setting is a living civilisation in a virtual world. The makers of the game made it so it actualy looks virtual.

Its one guys emagination of what the world would look like if it was a giant supercomputer.

But if its sexy looking graphics that is the reason why darwinia has poor sales, then we really are as stupid as those fat-cat moneybag "game developers" think we are.

Remember those Gigapets that everyone all wanted and adored back in the 1990's?

They were pulled of the market after peoples pets kept dying in a matter of weeks, after such a bad demostration of quality who would have thought they would return?

They are back again today, exactly the same but under a new name. This time i wasnt attracted by them like i was before, in fact i noticed how lame they were.

However they still selled in the rocket load just like they did before, kids who have never seen them treated them like something new and fascinating.

The toy makers didnt quit on a profitable idea, neither do game designers. Games like BF2 and COD2 may be old ideas, but not to new gamers. And they will have the same affect on new gamers just as they did to you when the FPS genre first came out.

Perhaps its not the games, your simply growing up.

Especially against THIS human.

Im not a filthy human you fool, but perhaps being a race that bears similarity to a catnip toy isnt so great either.

until that affect happens. Some people tend to get so involved in sim lifestyle that they begin to control other people around them like they do to the sims.

Unless the 2 people im talking about just have a commanding personality.

You're missing the point
It's not to find the best game there is no such thing, find me the pefect snowflake
The point it to discuss great games and what made them great

the title of the thread is a bit misleading. but it would be nice to know anyway which game has the most fans;). it still wont insist that there is a "best" game since all games have enemies too.

PS: one of my friends is a control freak because of Sims.

Theres too many opinions on the best game, i dont think there is one.

you may as well pick a variety.

I think half life got the most votes however, but i could be wrong. Counting these nominations is like counting the stars

UT and its sequels are awesome games but its background isnt well put together. Its made to be the best MP game rather than the best SP game, thats probably why noone has mentioned it.

its the sentimental value that gets old games points in the BEST GAME awards.

They may be outdated by 60372 sentences in its system code, but they spanwed first ideas and concepts. They are responsible for the quality of new games we have today. Old gamers owe their respects.

There could be other reasons why we cling to old games.

perhaps we should judge the best game by era:

mid 1980's: Commander keen 1

1990's: Duke nukem 3D

mid 1990's: half life

the Zero's: Freelancer

Mid 2000: Halo 2

So whats the summary of all the games voted to be the best? We need a tally to find out what game just got nominated the most.

babylon 5 never struck my fancy. Perhaps its because i only watched 5 minutes of each episode but it fell to the ranks of startreck; deep space 9. needed more giant ships getting blown to smithereens

But the first one "Dune" is just fantastic - deep and powerful. BY the film is nothing compared to the book.

as i had suspected, i beleive we also have a series of the books packed up above the ceiling somewhere. I only have seen the films. Even then i didnt think the film and its sequels were that bad.

Well you have high expectations, when I see a movie I always see better ways things could have been done, but that doesn't mean I don’t like the movie.

no i dont, i did like the movie, i simply felt it could have been done differently, I once watched dragonball Z episodes and old black and white sci-fi flops so i dont mind lame. The fact is that it was.

I sure dont listen to maddox, i thought the special effects were very well done.

That picture reminds me...

I found a shootemup internet game featuring jar jar binks. Your objective: shoot every jar jar you see into a bloody mess. I forget where it is but its brilliant. I played it for ages and got the rank of jedi (never missed).

episodes 1 to 3 were kinda lame, no movie should leave me thinking how they could have done it better but i enjoyed them anyway. At least to me the action well compensated for plot, lucas is a shit director maybe but i credit his enginuity for fight scenes. has anyone seen the technical wizardry behind those battles?

Thats my view towards the films, since we all look at it differently i cant argue with anyone else for how they see it

i guess your right.

but its so hard to tell the difference between them however so you have to assume they have no affect on your appearance
