Playtech aren't perfect; after the first two sets of Steelseries headphones I bought from them were non functional I asked to upgrade to a different set (the upgrade price being $20) the head dude said

 "作 謁 - full retail!"

I don't speak Chinese, thus I didn't know what they were saying, but I can guess.  I was charged $36 for something that was $20 dearer, after they'd screwed me around, I literally couldn't be bothered dealin with more crap and paid so I could finally get some working headphones, however....

This, along with assuming I was too dumb to decipher "xxxxxx full retail" was something of a stupid insult IMO, given that I've moved a good $6,000 through their doors over the last few months alone.

I'd stil recommend Playtech, as they are a good company but don't assume they, or anyone else are angels.

I've found ExtremePC to also be good as long as you're strident about what you want will never deal with Expert Infotech again.

I have used:

http://www.pp.co.nz - nice & friendly service, and can get obscure bits.

http://www.computerlounge.co.nz - excellent customer service, will go that extra mile to match 'cheaper' prices too.

http://www.playtech.co.nz - didn't think much of the service.

http://www.ascent.co.nz - have gone down hill.

My three weapons of choice;

http://www.c1com.co.nz - nice people when you ring them up, took 3 weeks to RMA my DOA ram... sent me a letter apologising. So back in good books. About to RMA BSoDing motherboard... so I'll update how that goes.

http://www.ascent.co.nz - never had a fault, fast, reliable, massive range, free shipping.

http://www.playtech.co.nz - never had a fault, although, have never had to RMA.

Have also heard very good things about http://www.computerlounge.co.nz

I had to RMA my ultra with playtech, very straight forward and quick turn around with the replacement arriving a few days later no questions asked.

That could have been because i went through most of the RMA process with XFX, until it got to the point where i had to send the card to asia.

I use dragonpc quite a bit.

Great prices, but their service and support is "helloooooo where are yoooouuuu?" at best.

I put dragonpc in my Dicksmith catergory.

If you know what you want and need 0 advice, they are great. If you need any form of input or help, go elsewhere. These are my walk in, walk out suppliers. And it is good to have these sort of people locally.

Just a note i have NEVER used them as a online supplier. And i can also say i have nerver had an issue with them. But that could be the difference between online and instore.

Guy works from home, very kind, prompt with orders, pretty damn satisfied with the stuff I've from there.

I had huge problems with PP in early days. Had a faulty vid card and they replaced it 3 times with dead cards. This was near on 4 years ago and now that i know someone who works at PP i have no troubles trusting them. They have changed A LOT and are very trustworthy now.

I only shop at PP and will only go to Playtech if PP doesn't have what I'm after.

QMB - excellent. 4*

When a family/friend asks me to build a pc, a majority of the time its a web/email machine, then i have found QMB packages & prices to be the best in NZ by a mile for buying a package that is ready to go. They may not suit the hardcore gamer.

Global PC - excellent. 5*

I have dealt with Global PC here in chch for about 7+ years. I have built the best part of 10+ pc's through them for work use. Ranging from dual CPU p3's with raid 0+1, thru  to the more modern machines of today. Their service and support is top notch as well.

When i built my 2nd pc thru them a long time ago, i needed a dedicated machine to drive a printer. Had to be Dual CPU P3, raid etc. Anyway about 11 months after, the mobo went arse up, it was already EOL by gigabyte, but Global gave me a complete pc replacement made with P4 with raid etc to get me by while my mobo got sent back to Rand McNally to be fixed/replaced by giga. i think it took close to 2 months, but i was never left without due to their great support. I still buy all my (work pc) computers from them, they may not be the cheapest (listed on website) but they ALWAYS come to the party for me and match anything i give them a valid link on from anywhere in NZ, even if i make a system with QMB prices, they will still match for me.

Terrible contact(took 3 emails before he replied) and bad customer service.

Dragon Pc
http://www.dragonpc.co.nz
Terrible website(looks shit, hard to use and said it had 3 items in stock and i went there they didn't have a single one).

Yep, i learnt my lesson with dragon the same way, its always phone before i go and make sure they have it before i get in the car. But sometimes their prices are too good to not use. I use them mainly for small things, like HD, cables, replacement optical drives and media etc.

Playtech 4.8/5

$$$ spent = 7.6k of my own money!!

RMA is the best i have ever had, replaced two 2900XTs the first one he gave me, as soon as i handed the "dead" one back, 2nd time he had to test it to make sure lolz..

RMA'd one motherboard, had a new one within 3 days.

Selection of stuff is good, but not a huge amount [i.e] limited to silverstone and antec PSU's, G-skill ram and corsair ram.

I avoid PCPacific - REALLY expensive shipping.

PBTech I avoid too because the Wellington shop owner is dodgy as... Tries to sell you shit that's supposedly 'top of the line', tried to sell me a 6200TC said best graphics card with TurboCache up to 512mb.

the owner is algoods, hes friendly and tries to help, but the younger guy who might be his son is a complete dick, i rang up asking whether they had a certain monitor (which was on special) and he said nah they dont have it, so i go to the store and there he is showing it to other people in the store!!!

and avoid nz oc zone, i bought my pc parts there and although its cheap, they take about a month to realise you've even made an order, then they say they can't get these parts and try to sell you other crappy stuff.

Have also heard very good things about http://www.computerlounge.co.nz

Updating:

http://www.computerlounge.co.nz - brilliant guys, another that haven't given me any grief. Free shipping, very reliable. very happy here :)

http://www.ascent.co.nz - never had a fault with RMAs, fast, reliable, massive range, free shipping. Does forward replacements, that shit's gold.

http://www.playtech.co.nz - hard to understand on the phone, but great over email in my experience, brilliant service, fast and friendly, well priced in some cases too :) Shit website though TBH, although I've seen worse.

http://www.c1com.co.nz - Never using them again if I can help it. took 3 weeks to RMA some RAM, they did apologise, but apparently other people have had similar experiences. Wouldn't RMA my faulty motherboard AFTER I sent it to them, wanted me to go through Gigabyte... And they wanted me to send it to Taiwan! Another bad experience was trying to RMA a 8800GT that was artifacting, It took TWO MONTHS for them to even open the RMA request. And then told me if I'd applied earlier, they could've taken a look :cussing::cussing::cussing:

Yeah, that's the only REAL problem with C1.  To get any results you need to harass the shit out of them.  I normally call them up constantly.  I think they don't like it  :D.

I'm surprised to see so many bad experiences with Dragon PC. I've been using them for at least 8 years and have only ever had good experiences. Discounts on top of discounts plus post purchase rebates. Instant replacements of faulty goods.

Eg a couple of months ago, my Skt 939 board failed that was out of its 3 year warranty, and after a quick email to Alex I was off down to the Riccarton Store to pickup a new E8400 and Asus P5Q Pro free of charge. My cpu wasn't faulty but they replaced that too.

However, I share the sentiments expressed here about TasTech. Grant has always been useless and has the most appalling customer service.

OCNZ Forums did a retailer roundup thread some time ago, worth having a read here

I brought some stuff from OCZone a while back and they were very helpful, what they didn't have in stock they offered an upgrade at no extra cost
In saying that tho, I wanted to buy a microSD card from them and the postage was going to be about $9, I asked them (email) if they could just throw it in an envelope and charge me 50c they just didn't reply to me

PBTech in Hamilton are good, as long as you deal with the right people there, they give reasonable discounts and are often cheaper than advertised on pricespy or their website.  I've RMA'd a couple things through them too and its easy (could just be that I'm dealing with them face to face as opposed to over email).  They seem have pretty good relationships with most suppliers, and they don't really sell stuff from suppliers they don't get on well with (although they can get it for you if you ask).

Hamilton also has JayCare who seem to have some obscure components that no other stores carry in stock (like IDE/SATA converters)

And there's Tisco in Hamilton too, they never have anything in stock.  I went to buy a AM2 motherboard from them (about 6 months ago) and the only one they had in stock wasn't even listed on their website

with http://www.silenx.co.nz
Reason: Ordered, was not contacted with any confirmation of payment shipping for 2weeks until I contacted them and supposidly it was a "glitch" in their staff not putting it out to ship.
