Title: One Of Those Graphics Card Threads
Post by: Craigor on September 19, 2014, 03:15:01 pm
So, If I was looking to spend maybe $300, maybe stretching to $400 on a graphics card

To go into a Quad 3.6 with 16GB of ram

What should I get?

I would probably prefer to stick with Nvidia (I just like the intel/nvidia combination)

It would need to render facebook games, and my little pony, of course

R9 280x

best bang for buck out there.

Sapphire Tri-X or the Asus DCUT

Save for a bit longer buddy and get a 970 and your set for a good while

that is an AMD though. So it depends whether he is willing to leave Nvidia. I have a 280x and it's great.

Reiterating that above.

Either get a 280X now, or wait for the GTX970.

Looks like the 970 will sit between 15-25% better than the 280X at HD, and more at 2K+. It will also run cooler and (probably) quieter than the 280X due to the low power requirements.

I would expect the 970 to come in above your budget. USD$329 RRP, likely to be around the NZD$479+ mark after taxes.

If you are don't mind switching to the red camp, then the 280X is a solid buy, and you won't be disappointed.

As an insight: I'll probably be upgrading my GTX570's soon, and it looks as though I'll be moving to 2x970.

EDIT: OUCH. NZ$679 for a GTX970.
