George is making the final three films by the looks of things. I wish someone would euthanase him before he wrecks this beloved saga any further.
Edit: I take that back. Disney has bought the rights and George will be neither directing or writing the new films. This could be much much worse.

And I would have never thought that Lucasfilm would be bought by Disney.

The books definitely carry on past the 6th movie. iirc they start following Luke's son. Endless avenues to follow. I can just see them having such a different feel and it will always be hard to capture the vibe of the original trilogy anyway, episodes 1-3 being the case in point.

Personally I would love to see Harrison ford as Han again, if played well he could still be every bit the bad-ass he was in the original (reference Eastwood in Gran Torino)
I just hope to god that if they do actually make the films they do this:
1: Hire someone to direct that can Direct
2: Hire a fan of the series so they treat it with the reverence it deserves instead of raping it for the cash cow it is
3: No Black Minstrels
4: Get back to what made Star Wars Great:
a Story that doesn't age.
Western inspired bravado and characters
Actual dog fight inspired space combat scenes (has anyone seen the original reel that George spliced together of Gun Camera footage from WW2 and then the side by side shots that you see in Star Wars?)
A Musical Score and themes for Characters (the Imperial March is Boss)
Push the limits of Science and Technology, but keep it semi possible

I'm excited. When I was a kid and heard that Star Wars was supposed to be 9 movies, I was so disappointed that Lucas had stopped early. Then when the news came about Episode I, I was anticipating The Phantom Menace with as much excitement as the new millenium. Now we'll get to see the rest of one of the most popular movies ever made. Sure, Disney has only made the occasional decent movie since the 90s, but I'll still watch all 3 of these.

I was a huge fan of the Star Wars books, many were great, some not so much. But I don't mind to much about the path they are taking with the new movies. Will be interesting on seeing what they do with the story.
