Title: Telecom's 'suspicious' offer
Post by: benlav on February 02, 2013, 02:44:31 pm
Anyone here with Telecom? I'm currently on a plan which is about 120gb for I think $105 or something, plus the tivo scam on top of that. Anyway, I received an offer in the post this week, offering to up my allowance to 150gb for $6 less. Not only that, in they are offering the chance to win a samsung 3 if you do it before sometime soon. Then in the fine print, it says if you switch plans, you can't revert back. So naturally I'm really suspicious. I cant figure out why I wouldn't want to get more data for less money. But I can't seem to figure out what their angle is... anyone else know?

edit: just to clarify, that includes the land line. I never really use it so I think local calls are free.

Maybe you are just on an old plan which they are trying to get rid of?

On the 120gb plan as well, think they have a new 500gb plan for 20 bucks extra. They probably are trying to get rid of that plan

Because you're living in the past, rofl.
120Gb for over $100.
fuck I pay $70 and get over 150Gb.

Not with telecom, but pretty much all places radically increased their caps a wee while back.

So get with it. It's not so much telecom that you need worry about, it's your lack of market research. You're paying too much for shit all as it is.
Likely they're trying to consolodate their customer base as other's have suggested, so they don't end up with some crazy logistical nightmare.

Now on 500GB a month for $129 a month.

My wife works for telecom so it's all on credit. Rage much? I don't recall sending you my Internet bill.

The 150GB plan is way better... IF youre not making massive amounts of toll calls. No you will not be able to change back as the old 120gb plan is no longer grandfathered. Dunno about the chance to win a free S3, take that shit with a pinch of salt. But yeah, if you aren't calling all over the place all the time the new plans are way better value. If you want flick me a pm Ill make sure youre saving money (f**k the bandwagon homos)

No rage at all, sorry if you interpreted it that way.

Why didn't you just ask your wife?

LOL.

Yeah, asking your wife would surely garner a much more accurate response considering her place of work.

My wife deals with supplier negotiations and contracts. Very little to do with retail telecoms.

I think I have figured out a reason not to change. I have TiVo, they haven't been able to meter us for over a year now. I call up occasionally to check, they admit they aren't checking my usage. So, my suspicions is that if I change plan, that'll enable them to meter my downloading. So, I'll wait u til they fix that before I switch.

I might actually change to that if the plan is still around. Would just have to convince the guy who's name is on the bill ;P

Still around, it's around all the time. It's not so much a plan as it is a base internets fee with an extra 100Gb on it.

snap.net.nz have unlimited youtube addon for $5 a month.

Worth it if you do a lot of youtube as it allows a lower overall cap.

Add in unlimited data between 1am and 7am if you increase your cap above standard.

It's still around. Plans on the website are base plans, you select a base plan then add extra stuff on top, like datapacks

So what you're actually paying is $100 for unlimited internets.
Not $100 for 120Gb as previously stated.

Technically... But if I go nuts one month, and they have randomly fixed the meter issue, I'm liable to pay for it. So for all intents and purposes, I'm on a 120gb plan. They just can't meter it for some reason. So I'm careful with my downloads anyway.

Testing with such a small sample probably isn't the best way to judge the quality of the work done.

If they start to monitor you then when you reach 80/ of your cap they will send you an email letting you know you are approaching your limit.
That will be your warning so go for gold until you get the email.
