Glad i was of the generation that had an MMR.
Measles was ""eradicated almost" in early 90s then the scare tactics of one doctor undid it all.

OP should have just said "Because of fucking science."
-
And yes, it is a great tragedy.
Like the Auckland parents who almost had their son die of Tetnus because they didn't vaccinate. HOW THE FUCK IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE.
Yet say this to some nay sayer and they harp on about herd immunity (which is bullshit) and how evolution is causing 'superbugs' (which is only a half truth, and not a reason to NOT immunate).

Superbugs are because people don't finish courses of antibiotics and as such don't fully remove the bug from their system and it then over time adapts to the antibiotics.
because "human nature" humanity will be it's own downfall.
-
I'm all for people not immunising.
Simply because its our last hope of natural selection, otherwise it will end up being idiocracy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/)
-
i'm all up for natural selection, but they don need to breed the superbugs in the mean time... can't we just 1080 them.

This shit makes me angry. When we were having our first child in Chch a few years ago we did antenatal classes through the Christchurch Parents Centre (recommended to us by our GP) and we had the president of the centre sit in on the class each week. When the topic of vaccination came up she started pushing her no-vaccination agenda saying that she didn't vaccinate her kids and they were fine, that child care centres can't refuse to admit your child because they're vaccinated and various other crap. It made me pretty angry to say the least so I sent around a document to everyone that night outlining the potential side effects of a vaccine as well as the effects of the disease if you don't vaccinate (I can't find the link but it was by Auckland University).
-
I chose to vaccinate my daughter - I suffered through Chicken pox, mumps and measles as a child my stink mother made me play with sick kids. I remember how fucking horrible it felt to be sick itchy and unable to make it go away. I didnt want that for my child. Do i regret it? Not at all.

Darkvirus and I were discussing Tetanus the other day..
From our understanding the way most vaccines work, is by exposing you to a small, disarmed amount of 'the virus'
So if you impale yourself on a rusty nail, how does asking if your tetanus is up to date, and then exposing yourself to more of it, help?
-
Measles was ""eradicated almost" in early 90s then the scare tactics of one doctor undid it all.
It wasn't scare tactics.

scare tactics, paranoid crackpot, fraudulant unfounded claims.
and i quote
The modern anti-vaccination scare began in the late 1990s, when a British physician named Andrew Wakefield began warning people that the MMR vaccine (measles, mumps and rubella) causes autism in children. Medical experts refuted his claims, but parents panicked. Vaccination rates in Britain sank from 92 per cent to 73 per cent. Dr. Wakefield’s research has since been widely condemned as a giant fraud, and many of the current crop of measles victims were never vaccinated because of him.

I'm guessing because it's you, there's another context to which this is almost true.
But it most certainly was scare tactics.
In order for chappy to collect government research money on a new vaccine, for a company he owned stock in too iirc.
It was pure greed, but scare tactics is a huge means to that end.
Are there risks? Probably. Highly improbably from what I understand though (admittedly not much BECAUSE I'M NOT A FUCKING IMMUNOLOGY SCIENTIST).
Side effects of tetanus vaccination: a sore arm, maybe a bit of a rash.
Side effects of tetanus: motherfucking death.

If you read the whole wikipedia article you would have read this quote from the article itself:
We identified associated gastrointestinal disease and developmental regression in a group of previously normal children, which was generally associated in time with possible environmental triggers.
In the paper by Wakefield et al they merely suggested a correlation, they certainly did not state a causation. Later Wakefield suggested that the MMR shot be put on hold but children continue vaccination of measles, mumps and rubella separately with a 12 month gap between each. The hold would only last until further emergency research could be done to safely conclude that MMR together were not an issue.
There were only 12 children in the study, that alone should tell you enough about Wakefields initial analysis of his findings.
Wakefields career was destroyed by idiots too quick to point blame.
-
pffft, still that aside anti - vaccinations is still not a wise choice, as you have stated even wakefield suggested they still be vaccinated but staggered, had people actually headed that and ""not the panicked human nature of it must all be bad" we would not have the measles outbreaks starting again.
again also if people followed their courses on antibiotics and steroids to finish, doctors theorise that the rise of superbugs would not have been as prevalent.

it's a controlled way for your body to develop the antigens to deal with it.
thus the flu vaccine which is incubated in chicken eggs causes allergic reactions in patients who are allergic to eggs, and is so difficult to produce quickly, they have found a new technique using insects which is a lot more stable and efficient

Blame are fuckwits like Jenny McCarthy. Don't persecute the 'doctor', he was merely reporting on observation, following the scientific method as best he could.
From what I gather he is now actively trying to find evidence to prove his initial observations since his reputation has already been destroyed. This might be fanning the flames a bit, but at the end of the day if he does find a causative effect between the MMR shot and a disease then good on him. But until then I would suggest that the MMR shot is perfectly safe and every child be vaccinated.

Not really, he used pretty poor testing methods and there was no follow up research. For example his sample size was 12, way too small to get any meaningful results. There's also evidence that he had a big conflict of interest, he was receiving money from trial lawyers suing the drug companies while he was doing the research (http://briandeer.com/mmr/lancet-deer-1.htm (http://briandeer.com/mmr/lancet-deer-1.htm)).

It's not always the egg method, they add the lovely Squalene agent too.
If you start at the beginning, and see how a flu virus is contracted, it enters the body via either mucous glands in the mouth or nose. No virus gets injected into a persons arm, other than the one they call "Vaccination". I have had maybe 3 genuine full on flus in my life, and I am a severe asthmatic, and I am still breathing. How many people actually die from the flu anyway?. I would wager big money that it's sod all, and the ones that do, would be old, or infirm.
Fascinating subject, but a real hornets nest if you kick it hard enough enough :)

My point wasn't "Why do we have a tetanus vaccine"
I completely understand having it prior to the fact, at scheduled intervals, to build immunity..
What I was saying was, it's quite common practice for people to be administered the vaccine, after they have been exposed to the real thing, (e.g. going to hospital after impaling yourself on a rusty nail) and I was wondering how that was actually helpful.. "Oh you have been infected with tetanus, here, have more dead tetanus"
I was genuinely interested if anyone had any insight into the reasoning behind that practice, because it doesn't make sense to me.
-

More like fucking lots!
250,000 to 500,000 deaths a year.
Which is why we have Vaccinations, to stop lots of people dying from Influenza.
1889–1890 flu pandemic
1 million
1918 flu pandemic (Spanish flu)
20 to 100 million
Asian Flu
1957–1958 1 to 1.5 million
Hong Kong Flu
1968–1969 0.75 to 1 million
2009 flu pandemic
105,700-395,600

It annoys the shit out of me when people blab on about small sample sizes of reports as if they're the only one who's sat stat100. I'm pretty sure a surgeon and medical researcher knows a sample size of 12 isn't sufficient to draw a conclusion, which is probably why he didn't. In fact it's probably why he suggested further research needed to be done. Probably because his sample size was too small.

It amuses me that you completely ignored my second point and decided to attack me instead for bringing up a relevant point about inadequacies in his method.

I did some googling, because that is an interesting question. Only thing i could find, was the live version of the tetanus effects antibody production, so the real tetanus won't produce a response. But that was just one source, and i got sick of googling.
-
And generally the one given after the fact is a booster tetanus shot.

Yeah, I know the stats Space, I do wonder how they came to such numbers though. But again, you don't know the split between, the old, the young and infirm, and lots of those deaths were back in the dark ages of medicine I guess, when doctors had almost a free reign of power over you, and could administer any poison to try and cure your ailments.
I don't know a single person who has died from the flu, or even come close to it. Have you had someone in your immediate circle of fam/friends who has?. I like to question the motivations behind the scourge of vaccines that have come out. I personally won't touch one ever again.
What interests me more, is why places like the CDC keep smallpox, and other mass killing contagious diseases in storage, rather than nuking them, like they should have. What "use" do they have, if we truly want to disease wiped out. If it pops up again in some remote corner of the world, you have fresh samples to use, to do whatever they do with them, you don't need a reference library of death kept "just in case"
-

I guess maybe they count the number of people who are, you know, dead?

Yes, back in the dark ages before they had vaccinations.

No I don't, because we have vaccinations now.
I like to question the motivations behind the scourge of vaccines that have come out. I personally won't touch one ever again.
I like to question how someone could be so stupid to not ever have a vaccination ever again.

Yes they do, they keep them 'just in case' they need to make more vaccinations.
-
I just suck a lot of dick.
Do you also administer vaccinations with your syringe?
Do you warn people of the potential side effects?
- Soreness or tenderness where the shot was given
- Non-stop crying, for 3 hours or more
- Itching
-
I like to question how someone could be so stupid to not ever have a vaccination ever again.
Heard of Squalene before?. Have a read, it's fascinating stuff.
The reasons behind my comments are based on personal experience, rather than just parroting numbers and stats. I know two families who had happy healthy babies, and both babies died as a direct result of complications from a Vaccination done 2 weeks prior. No egg allergies, no anything of the sort. Why would I knowingly support something that has this kind of track record?. If I know two families it has devastated, how many more cases are likely to exist outside of my sad, misinformed world?.
When a Toyota Hilux fails to stop at intersection, and they figure out there is a fault in the brake system, and it lets air into the lines, and causes the brakes to go spongy, then they do what?. They recall the model, and they fix it. Seen any drug recalls in your life time?. You very likely won't, unless it's a debacle on the scale of Thalydomide. Drug companies and doctors share a very handy skill, that is also possessed by drainlayers .... they all bury their mistakes.
-
Do you even google.
http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/drugsafety/DrugRecalls/default.htm (http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/drugsafety/DrugRecalls/default.htm)
Also heard of clinical trials it a process of such stringent QA not seen in any other industry except maybe condom making that proves products before commercial applications that it minimises the number of recalls.
Thus the reason for FDA approval of drug research etc
There have bee multiple recalls, hell even my pentasa for my chrohns had a recall.

Quoting Bill Gates:
"The world today has 6.8 billion people. That's heading up to about nine billion. Now if we do a really great job on new vaccines, health care, reproductive health services, we could lower that by perhaps 10 or 15 percent!" (About 1 Billion People!)
What do you think Bill is saying here?. If you think there is some alturistic intent behind vaccinations, and that no one profits from their production or promotion, then perhaps a better .jpg would be an ostrich with it's head in the sand. Bills statement seems to imply that there is a double whammy for the corporates here too, they get obscenely wealthy, distributing rat poison for humans, which keeps Ted Turner, and Bill Gates happy too. Win-win right?.
Don't think I'm on some high horse, I have had two flu vacc's 2 years apart from each other, and in both instances, ended up sicker than i have ever been in my life, with serious respiratory complications. When people in white lab coats inject stuff into animals, they look for changes, or developments, and we call that "science". When I stand back, and witness the same thing after I got injected with stuff, it's called "anecdotal nonsense", because I don't have a white coat. Now, as a control, I don't touch a vaccine for 6 years, and I have not had anything more than a mild head cold in that time. I was younger, fitter, and stronger back then, and I still got bowled over royally. When I started thinking for myself, rather than just doing everything my GP said was "in my best interests", I suddenly enjoy brilliant health.
All I am suggesting, is that people think for themselves. We get taught how to learn, not how to think.

Bill Gates “saves lives.” It’s a mantra that’s been often repeated in the media to lionize his philanthropic work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where his money funds an admittedly harmful global vaccine campaign, dangerous GMO agricultural projects with Monsanto, bizarre nanotech experiments to drive infertility and more.
Now, the latest Bill Gates propaganda will literally portray the man committed to population reduction as a “comic book hero.” Bluewater Productions, who previously depicted Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, will translate the philanthropist’s life into a graphic novel, including the beginnings of Microsoft, awards from Queen Elizabeth and his ‘Olympian’ marriage to Melinda Gates.

Are you asking someone on the internet for epidemiological information?
You'd be better off asking a blind person what blue looks like.
-
I think the flu vacc made me ill.
Because that could be the only possible explanation.
And even if it is the truth, it's far more likely that you're allergic or some such to the vaccination itself, NOT THAT YOU GOT A SUPER FLU BECAUSE OF IT.
Learn to think for yourself, not just learn absorb the bullshit Jenny McCarthy spews at you.
y'know, because she totally has a white coat too. Or needs one. Or something.
Now, as a control
Get the flu vacc again, please.

Good point Tiwa!
kruz, did you use a double blind trial?

I feel like this thread has gone rapidly downhill.
-
What are you guys doing?
Don't even bother quoting him.
-
I skipped over earlier posts because antivax morons all spew the same illogical shit.
But now I've accidentally read them, and I just can't not rebuke.
Spacemonkey already demolished most of this, but particularly the third break has raised my ire beyond the capicity to ignore.
How do they count the dead?.
Well first they bring them out.
I imagine it looks like this in the land where you live:
Monty Python-Bring out your dead! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grbSQ6O6kbs#)
Doctors just try to kill you with any poison they like
And would be subsequently imprisioned. Just like any (attempted) murderer.
I don't know a single person who has died from the flu, or even come close to it. Have you had someone in your immediate circle of fam/friends who has?.
YES ACTUALLY. SO FUCK YOU, YOU PRESUMPTIOUS CUNT.
Why do they even keep viruses to study them?
FOR SCIENCE.
So we can defend against/erradicate other viruses in the future. Because studying THAT virus doesn't mean that the results are only applicable to THAT virus. Just like studying pigs gives insight to human (and other mammal) physiology.
Simple fact you're oblivious to:
Yes some people might have adverse effects upon treatment.
SAME FOR ANY MEDICINE.
The benefits FAR outweigh the alternatives (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10860122).
I will however conceed one AND ONLY THIS ONE point:
Why is it that the only way to test for allergies to a vaccination is to administer the vaccination? Surely there are a lot of infant deaths that could be avoided if there were a simple test that could be used beforehand.
Vaccinations are not inherently bad.
This is probably partly ignorance on my part, but I should like it if there were more... uhh... 'general public level' information available on this.
Note how this is posed as a question, not as rhetoric against vaccinations.
Every single thing you've come out with is either complete bullshit or a different kind of shit that you didn't think through. You've been hands down replied to with logic and reason on every occasion, debunking every anti vaccination myth you've pulled up.
Hey have you guys heard what this rich famous guy who isn't a doctor said?
...
-
I get violently ill on morphine.
OH NO, PAINKILLERS ARE A FUCKING SCAM. NEVER WANT ANY OF THEM AGAIN. ALL JUST A LOAD OF SHIT THAT DOCTORS PUMP INTO YOU TO MAKE MONEY FROM DRUG COMPANIES. #refusepainkillers
Pain killer? more like BRAIN KILLER! Did you know they're made from OPIUM!?
They do nothing to stop the pain, in fact it gets worse once you are given them!
Think for yourselves, open your eyes people!
Don't believe what the doctors are telling you! They only trained for over 10 years with strict supervision because of a dedicated passion for compassion to help ill folks! What do they know!?
...
If your neighbour filled a syringe with concentrated opiates and injected you with it, and you died, it would be called murder! WHY WOULD YOU LET A DOCTOR DO IT?
-
This made my morning, thanks guys, awesome work. :)
So many chuckles. We need to start another thread like this one.
Did anyone actually address what Bill said though?. Be he a doctor, or a software giant, why does he say exactly those words?. It's not ambiguous in any way, he is talking about using vaccines for population reduction. Twist is, turn it, settle it in your own mind, however it suits you, but that's the exact wording.
For the record, I never said I was anti vaccine, I said I would not have another flu vaccine in my life, because once bitten....actually, twice bitten. A lot of the medicine is good, but not all of it. And yes, I agree completely that there should be more fore-warning Pyro, especially on the baby to toddler years vaccines, which as you correctly point out, makes the child the guinea pig, with no adequate public level information. It concerns me that these vaccines are administered at an age when the childs entire body is in a state of flux, growing, developing, still unable to regulate itself in any serious way, and they pump the kid full of what?. These medical professionals spent the first two years of my daughters life telling me that he body was going through "massive developmenta changes", yet they still wanted to pump her full of weird vaccinations at that age....this seems so contradictory doesn't it?.
Don't get me wrong, there is good medicine out there, you'd be a tool to suggest otherwise, but not all of it is. Not sure what al these references are to Jenny McCarthy, so you'll have to explain that whacko reference to me. I am guessing she has been on a an anti vaccine crusade or something?. No way I am googling her name on my home computer. I would like to stay married. The rest of the accusational, and hyped up angry stuff, nice job getting yourself worked up over a forum thread. Keen to discuss topics, but having not slung any crap in your direction, you could maybe try do the same. Save the anger for when you actually need it.

This made my morning, thanks guys, awesome work. :)

I actually just did this cause that's a fair call.
At this point in time I think you've seriously misunderstood the context of what Bill is talking about, I'm not surprised you didn't understand it either because there is some fairly simple algebra involved and ironically even a bit of a joke that perhaps some people wouldn't pick up on because they didn't pay attention in primary school.
The quote comes from this TED talk here:
http://www.ted.com/talks/bill_gates?language=en#t-137560 (http://www.ted.com/talks/bill_gates?language=en#t-137560)
He's talking about hos CO2 (carbon dioxide, the 'biggest' greenhouse gas) effects climate change.
He proposes the following equation:
CO2 = P * S * E * C
where:
P is the number of people on earth
S is the number of services each person uses (dish washer, car, cellphone etc)
E is the amount of energy each service uses (a heater might be 1W, your car might be 50kW etc)
C is the amount of carbon each service uses
It's a simple model, but that's ok cause it probably comes to a fairly good approximation, certainly good enough for a broad TED talk, I'm sure a much more accurate model exists and that it is significantly more complex, it might even have a differential (it's part of this whole other part of maths called calculus, would probably make your brain explode)
But what Bill is trying to say is that we need for the amount of CO2 to become zero. If you pull your mind back to primary school, or if there's another child in the care at your home you might ask them, but any number multiplied by 0, is 0.
For example:
5 * 0 = 0
2 * 0 * 5 = 0
Using Bills model, lets make some assumptions that keep things really simple, lets imagine for a moment that god forbid you and I are the only two people left on the planet. Now lets assume I kill you cause that's the logical next step, so now there is only one person left on earth and it's me and I'm happy now. Lets say I use one light bulb as a service, and it's 60W lets assume that I first used a diesel generator to power the light bulb, but then I switched to a solar panel.
In the first case the CO2 on earth as contributed by humanity (me) is:
CO2 = 1 * 1 * 60 * 50
CO2 = 350
That's 1 me, using 1 service, that uses 60W and produces 50 carbon dioxides per Watt.
In the second case:
CO2 = 1 * 1 * 60 * 0
CO2 = 0
so now the CO2 contributed by me is zero, because the solar panel doesn't produce any carbon dioxide.
Keep in mind this is a very simple model and doesn't take in to account the CO2 required to produce the solar panel.
Ok, so now we understand how Bills model works we can focus on the population.
The Gates Foundation famously supports the eradication of malaria in Africa. Africa is this whole continent, it's a huge part of the world that supports many millions of people who live in some very poor conditions. Because of the terrible conditions and the threat of diseases such as malaria, the population have tended towards having large families, this is to help ensure that at least some of the blood line increases. You may have noticed when feeding ducks that mother ducks often have very very many baby ducks (called ducklings). Few duckings reach full maturity due to predators and disease, this is the same for many African families.
Bill thinks that if he works really hard on a vaccine for malaria then he can reduce the threat of disease on African families, so they will in turn have fewer children as there is less risk of all those children dying. You can argue the semantics of this assumption of his, for example large families might be a part of African culture, or that they don't have access to contraception.
The subtle joke is that one solution to force the amount of CO2 towards zero is to kill off the entire planet. If the population were zero then the amount of CO2 contributed would be zero and Bills model would work (this is actually a an excellent proof that his model is at least somewhat accurate). Though this is clearly impractical, however lowering the population does assist with getting the amount of CO2 towards zero.
So out of context it may seem as though Bill is suggesting that vaccines are killing people, but he also mentions reproductive health services. These are things like condoms and contraception that stop people from having babies. So going by your own logic you're suggesting that Bill is saying that condoms are killing people. That health services are killing people. And thus your rational falls over and can be proven to be false.
You can accept my explanation, or reject it but there really shouldn't be any more proof required. Perhaps you have some questions? I can explain some more maths if you like?

Bounty, you have a Luse-K quote in your signature. Do you still keep in touch with him?. I miss the man's evil wit, and he doesn't seem to frequent any of the old websites he used to. If you do, can you give him a hi from me?. Thanks man.
I understand what you said, but if nothing is emitting CO2, what happens to the trees and plants?. Even a reduction of 50%, do we know what this would actually do to the eco-system?. Crazy catch-22 kind of thing going on there.
Bill Gates love vaccines, he is not quiet about it. The simple sanitation, and introduction of fresh drinking water to most poverty stricken places, would lower disease rates incredibly, without jabbing needles in peoples arms. These vaccines get distributed to the back woods remote villages, that just need the corrupt govt of thier country, to provide the basics. How much are the vaccines, when we get told that 1.00 a day can transforms a childs life" by aid agencies?.
Hey, Malaria, and all that stuff, is a worthy battle, I have no argument there, I think the root of my trepidation, is why they are pushing vaccines as the panacea of modern health, when you read stuff like this
“The mainstream media has been busy hailing the supposed success of India’s polio vaccine campaign over the past few years, with many news outlets now claiming that the disease has been fully eradicated throughout the country. But what these misinformation puppets are failing to disclose is the fact that cases of non-polio acute flaccid paralysis (NPAFP), a much more serious condition than that caused by polio, have skyrocketed as a result of the vaccine’s widespread administration”
I think my stance is best summed up by Pyromanik, where the almost wholesale lack of pre-jab information exists, there is an issue. There is a canyon full of difference between saying to a parent "some peoples babies have died of complications immediately after having this administered, and the rest have grown up happy and healhty". That is true choice being offered, not pushing one agenda, and glossing over the fact that deaths do occur as a result of them, for whatever reason that is.
I don't think this is unreasonable.

Nope, It's a quote I've had since he said it on GP forums yonks ago.

Bill is discussing the CO2 contribution by humans which has been increasing ever since the industrial revolution. CO2 was self regulating before we started burning hydrocarbons.

Yes, sanitation etc will certainly decrease risk of transmission of disease. But malaria is spread by mosquitoes.

Natural News is not a reliable source. Especially when they cite themselves as a source.
The "Indian Journal of Medical Ethics" which has no impact factor, was the only source of the negative review of NPAFP. I found a non-scholarly magazine in India that claims the cause of the increase in NPAFP is disputed, it is generally accepted that the increase is due to the increased sample size and quality of data. Also the CDC posted that the worst region was 37.9 per 100,000 (which is 0.0379%) of children under 15 during the time that article was posted. Sensationalist reporting for click bait.
It takes like 10 minutes to think critically about a subject posted on a nut-job website like Natural News

If Ngati_Grim was still here, would this thread be more or less interesting?
That's all I have to add to this.

There seems to be no reliable alternative sources these days, other than the ones plugged into the mainstream of thought. How does a person obtain, the most basic of medical imperatives, which is the "second opinion"?. If everyone who reports something contra to the medias golden boys and girls, gets black listed as a nut job, then we are leaving ourselves wholly at the mercy of the mainstream camp, to deliver us the bad news of any side effects, or deaths resulting from their medicine campaign.
Human nature does not have in it, an inherant nature of honesty. On the Police 10-7 show, how many people caught drink driving, or speeding, actually say "yeah, I did it?". Maybe one in 25 or 30. How much less will this nature then admit they poisioned a bunch of kids unnecessarily with a vaccine full of Squalene?.
You have to admit, there seems to be a heck of a lot of effort goes into reporting what is beneficial to the vaccine giants, and for some reason, we hear nothing of any side effects, chronic paralysis, and other results, which are often worse than the diease they were trying to eradicate. This equates to passive propaganda, making the situation even more dangerous from the standpoint of misinformation. This hearken s back to Pyromaniks point about the almost blanket lack of genuine information available to people.
There's no possibility that the reporting for pro vaccine doesn't suffer from sensationalist click-baiting?. It's very easy to just play the "whack job conspiracy theorist" card, but who is actually bothering to look into this independantly, and trying to see why the worlds child popualtion is being targeted with vials full of a material we are told is benefical.
The real problem as I have experienced, is that they rely on their pious weilding of degrees, and doctorates, to blind the victim, because they could not possibly understand the science behind it, so unless you have "credentials", your opinion is worthless. I work in a very tenchnical industry, and am responsible for training average joes, and josephines, to understand as much of it as I can, by using examples, and paralells, rather tham just insult their intelligence, and discredit their opinions. The level of understanding of people who lack any degrees, is frankly astounding.
None of my beliefs or opinions are borne of any crusade, or band wagon, they are merely a by product of thinking for myself. I have been alive too long to ignore the fact that when information is lacking, or appearing to be withheld, then there is always an agenda behind it How many of you who work, get mad as crap when management won't share information?. I can tell you why that is, and it is as simple as them not wanting their decisions being second guessed, by a lowly staff member, who may have a better way to do it, and thus show them up.
I really appreciate your replies Bounty, it's been fantastic to have someone to discuss this with, so thanks mate.

Vaccines typically contain one or more adjuvants, used to boost the immune response. Tetanus toxoid, for instance, is usually adsorbed onto alum. This presents the antigen in such a way as to produce a greater action than the simple aqueous tetanus toxoid. People who get an excessive reaction to adsorbed tetanus toxoid may be given the simple vaccine when time for a booster occurs.
In the preparation for the 1990 Gulf campaign, Pertussis vaccine (not acellular) was used as an adjuvant for Anthrax vaccine. This produces a more rapid immune response than giving only the Anthrax, which is of some benefit if exposure might be imminent.
Vaccines may also contain preservatives to prevent contamination with bacteria or fungi. Until recent years, the preservative thimerosal was used in many vaccines that did not contain live virus. As of 2005, the only childhood vaccine in the U.S. that contains thimerosal in greater than trace amounts is the influenza vaccine,[1] which is currently recommended only for children with certain risk factors.[16] Single-dose Influenza vaccines supplied in the UK do not list Thiomersal (its UK name) in the ingredients. Preservatives may be used at various stages of production of vaccines, and the most sophisticated methods of measurement might detect traces of them in the finished product, as they may in the environment and population as a whole.
Vaccination versus inoculation
Many times these words are used interchangeably, as if they were synonyms. In fact, they are different things. As doctor Byron Plant explains: "Vaccination is the more commonly used term, which actually consists of a 'safe' injection of a sample taken from a cow suffering from cowpox... Inoculation, a practice probably as old as the disease itself, is the injection of the variola virus taken from a pustule or scab of a smallpox sufferer into the superficial layers of the skin, commonly on the upper arm of the subject. Often inoculation was done 'arm to arm' or less effectively 'scab to arm'..."

I will admit there is a lot of effort going in to reporting on the positive effects of vaccines, and I think the reason we hear nothing about the side effects is because there are so few or that they're benign.

Last night she started running on the rat wheel at 3:30am, with a slight squeak in the wheel every revolution.

Nah.
They get up to all sorts of mischief (topkek) at night.
If your cage is made from wire, they're gonna start gnawing on it. To avoid this, I housed my rats in pretty big fish tanks (minus the water). You can also subside the gnawing by feeding them foods that go a good way to grinding their teeth down (cat biscuits, dog biscuits etc). Their teeth grow insanely fast.
I used to take a piece of bread and put cat biscuits on it and then wrap it up like a dumpling. They loved that shit.
Don't feed them chocolate.
Yell out if you need any more help. I use to actually breed Golden Buff rats and sell to petshops.

+1 would ask again
Got kept awake for another few hours this morning. It's okay I guess because it means I get to work on time so that I can bother the Macedonians about learning Macedonian.
I have noticed her gnawing on the cage (It's a bird cage lol), but it usually is no more than a second. Is it bad for her teeth / health or are we just worried about escapees?
Did you ever dress your rats up in little tin foil sparticus costumes?
Is there a signature move that they love? Scratch behind the ears? Poking them with large meaty objects? 2 in the goo, 1 in the...?
LASTLY
What was their staple food? Staples? I bet she would eat staples. Did they have a treat they all fuckin' went ape shit over? cat biscuits in bread?
-
Their teeth grow back fast so if they ever did gnaw them down, it wouldn't be too much of an issue. You'd just have to prevent it from happening too much otherwise it'll prevent them from eating a healthy diet. Most of the time you should be worried about NOT providing things that will wear their teeth down. I've seen rats that have teeth so long they can't eat due to having a soft food diet and nothing to gnaw on (remember that episode of The Angry Beavers where Daggett and Norbert grow their teeth into giant balls? Yeah, that)
The lid to their cage when we had them was wire mesh, they would gnaw on it all night long and we never had an issue with their teeth.
Hah, never dressed my rats up in anything. I obviously missed a prime opportunity.
Rats love cat biscuits, sunflower seeds (still in husks, they like cracking them open), bread, chips, nuts and wet catfood. But if you feed them treats too often they become greedy much like people and begin to demand better treats. Oh, and cereal, they love cereal.
Every rat is different. I had a rat that enjoyed being rubbed behind the ears and others that hated it. Most rats love being let loose inside your top, chilling out in a sleeve.
Staple food was me going to the bulk food section, mixing nuts, seeds, cereals and oats and then mixing it with a few cat biscuits.

I had a rat recently, big bastard could hear it in the roof, put in 8 boxes of poison.. recently found the carcass the body to tail was 45cm the body was about 28cm long and yes it was that big, greyish and goldish coloured fur. on looking it seems to be a Norway Rat(Rattus norvegicus) apparently the biggest rat nz has in the wild
biggest bastard i ever seen, pity i didn't find the carcass sooner as it rotting caused the ceiling tile to discolour and rot as well, so now have to rejoin a patch in the roof.
