Title: What I've been working on.
Post by: Bell on January 25, 2015, 04:19:45 pm
Hey dudes
Just thought I'd show you the product the company i'm working for is producing.
In short its a way to download full games for free and then play those games for a few hours as a trial, after which you can decide to buy the game while still in-game and then continue on playing.
It's sorta like Steam Free Weekends but available all the time.
We are still in Beta and building a catalog, feel free to give it a crack and provide me with any feedback.

Any information on errors or issues you have or average download speeds would be great!

oh yeah, full games as demos this harks back to the old Apogee days where the games was full but missing a few levels unless you bought it,

rather than games today being a scripted 1 level event.

Yep that's the idea, it also stops developers from needing to spend extra time making those scripted demos.
It also takes away any pirating excuses i.e "I buy games if I like them after i've pirated them"

I actually backpurchased quite a few really old games on Steam that I pirated back in the 90's and early 2000's etc.

I'll never play them, just to give the dev's a few $$ for their game.

Would be nice if you can report an amount (GB) for the games and a timeleft with download speed.

"About an hour" is a little vague.

Also got an error when pausing the download and re starting it.

Cheers Osiris I'll pass that on, did it continue downloading after you clicked ok?

No it didn't. It had installed a shortcut icon so I clicked that and it then started to reinstall from scratch.

Where abouts are the files being pulled from? Download seems awfully slow.

They come from Amazon CDN's which cache files after the first download in a region.
There is a chance you are the first to download Sniper in Australasia so get slow speeds as we have seen that happen before.
If you can let me know what you normally get speed wise and what you are getting now I'll pass it on.

Nice work Bell!

Just a bit sucky that I no longer game on a PC :( Ever since I picked up an Xbox One and a shiny new 50" Sony Bravia, I've been doing all my gaming from my bed.

I've realised that the argument of "console gaming is cheaper" is completely valid.

I can't afford to keep upgrading to play my games at a level that properly delivers the intended experience.
