Sandbox / Dwarf Fortress
« on: February 11, 2014, 03:33:05 pm »
Here I shall transcribe the epic tale of my Dwarves, and the Fortress they have built inside the heat of the mountain (or a large hill).

It started like any other fort, set out farm plots, storage rooms and a grand hall. With a stream close by, my fisher dwarves provided the fort with ample quantities of fish, barrels and barrels of fish. The whole fort smells of fish.

Compared to the smell of unwashed dwarf and smell of fish is quite pleasant.

However, something was missing, something important.

An Anvil! There was no anvil, which meant no way to make armour, bolts, axes or war hammers.

Shortly after I noticed this fact, my fort was set upon my horrible goblins intent to stealing my bearded child dwarves.

The invaders were driven off, but not without heavy losses. Without proper equipment to defend themselves my dwarves use anything they could find. Dogs, sheep, a yak, a cave spider silk glove.

The unhappy mason was left to build coffins for the recently dead.

Next season, a dwarven caravan came to trade. My expert chef created some exception dog tallow roasts, which were traded for an anvil and other suppliers.

Tune in next time for when my archers, given an awesome archer tower to attack from, instead walk out the front door and try and bash trolls with their wooden crossbows, and all end up dead.

« on: September 15, 2013, 10:39:49 am »
To myself, to fill the space between, the two lines that make up our being, the little transparent colour which makes up our lives.

To figure, after the connection of two lines of our existence, at top to at bottom ends.

Illustrator, would thou permit, me to select the entire object and fill it.

But I am failure. Is there anyone who can help me?

Once a year, us primitives in South Auckland throw out all our junk onto our front lawns.

The council then comes round in his truck and picks up all our crap and takes it to the dump. However, usually it takes a week or two for that to happen. So in the meantime our streets look like some third world country. Piles of rubbish on the side of our roads. Stray dogs rummaging throws bags of trash. Children building forts out of rotting planks of wood.

We are supposed to only throw out a cubic meters would of stuff, (I only usually throw out 2 or 3 items). But some people have mountains of rubbish, like this guy.

I can't understand how people mange to keep all this shit in their house, maybe they have a room which is bigger on the inside where they keep it all.

But it gets worse...

Because now, for the next two weeks, we get the hoarders driving around in their pickup trucks, from early morning till the middle of the night. These people probably don't leave their house all year except for these two weeks. They'll drive up and down the streets, poke around in the piles of junk, and drag off all sorts of stuff to bring back to their lair.

And they get into fights with each other, last time my Wife and I were driving down the street, and we were blocked. Two hoarders had stopped their pickup trucks in the middle of the road, and were shouting at each other through their windows, this went on for about 5 minutes before we got past.

A chicken laid a massive egg, and inside the egg was another egg.

I consider this a sign of the coming apocalypse.

The chicken then died a horrible painful death maybe.

Yesterday's first race saw Luna Rossa out of the race just after the start because of gear failure. And Team NZ almost went underwater, with two team members going overboard, yet still taking the win.

Second race was postponed till today because of too much wind.

Two races scheduled for today. Watch it here live form San Francisco Bay.

This is at least 2 times better then the vapourware that is Google glasses.

They also cover two eyes, so the images can actually work in 3D.

It's also 2 times cheaper then Google glasses.

Look much better too (at least the production model does, the prototype model looks like balls)

General Chat / James T Kirk, failed captain.
« on: August 04, 2013, 02:51:27 pm »
Chief Engineer's log,
Stardate 2266.7
Montgomery Scott

So Kirk and I got into an argument a long time ago, he got a bit angry, other things were going on with him, that's fine he admitted it,
then another time he got angry at me. I was asking what was wrong, and he raged at me, I forgave him of it and we forgot about it... we both agreed on this btw.

Then today, I boarded the USS Enterprise, and he asked me why I have 'Commander' in front of my name.
I said I thought I was going to get a promotion, but I wasn't so I would remove it...

He said "scotty, no offence, but your not going to get a promotion"
I said "Aye, why not?"
He said "because of our little incident"
I tried to make excuses so he wouldn't get angry at me again, until I finally said what happened
and that he got angry once, said sorry and then got angry again and took it out on me.
and then, he literally said... "scotty stop being mean to me"

boom

He started saying "scotty stop talking this convo is over"
because he knew I was right, he knew what he did that day.

Then he said "scotty if I was Captain at the time I would of expelled you from Starfleet"

I said "what reason would you have expelled me for?"

He didn't say anything for about 15 seconds, then he said "I have multiple reasons"

So then here is probably the only thing I may have done wrong on this day, I said " Captain, if I'm doing something wrong, its your job to expel me, I don't want to upset the ship's crew"
Others were saying I was baiting him... even though I was not doing that, but I was.

Still he had no reason to expel me, he was being mean to me saying I wasn't going to get promotion, I explained what happened, he knew he was angry, but him comeback was "stop being mean" and "this convo is over", just remember that.

Then I said for the last time, "Captain, I don't want to break rules, if I am, then you have a right to expel me"

And then he expelled me out the airlock... not because I was hacking the ship's computer system, I know Kirk is useless at finding hackers,
not because I was being mean to him in any way shape of form
not that I was phaser spamming
not that I was trade spamming.

Because his massive ego is stupid, it was him, and if I hear anything, along the lines of  'he didn't say that in this' or he didn't say this', then your lying.
And then he says I shouldn't get a promotion, he needs Starfleet management classes, for fuck sake, I should have told Spock, he would of sorted this shit out.

A man has died after an exchange of shots with police that ended on Auckland's North Shore following a chase which began in the Bay of Plenty.

That's an epicly long chase. Guy was chased after a home invasion from BOP all the way to North Shore, was shooting back at police with a high-powered rifle. Ended when he hit road spikes after Tristram Ave, Police shot him dead.

I was on my way to work this morning when I got stuck in the traffic, had to get off after Tristram Ave and take a detour and it took ages, traffic was nuts.

Is it possible to filter out some of them, (like the DLC ones), or limit it to so many per day?

General Chat / Bank Fees
« on: June 19, 2013, 01:01:43 pm »
It's been in the news recently, this group http://www.fairplayonfees.co.nz is going up aginst the bank (first up ANZ) in a law suit regarding the exception fees banks charged (i.e Unexpected overdraft, dishonour fees , usually around $10 to $30)

25,000 people have signed up so far.

I have mixed opinions about it. I agree with the group on the fact, that a $15 fee for an unexpected overdraft for example, if far larger then the cost to the bank.

However, I've been with ANZ all my life (first with ANZ, changed to National Bank, now back to ANZ). And I haven't really had any problems with them. During my student days, where I was continually short of money, I certainly got hit with these fees. AP would be due, but there wasn't enough in my account, I get charged a fee (as well as the inconvenienced of sorting out the unpaid bill). Of course getting a fee always sucks.

However ANZ has also given me an interest free $2000 overdraft because I was a student.

Now that I'm older, and more financially sound, these fees are no longer an issue. I keep a close eye on my accounts to make sure I sufficient funds to pay any bills. I chosen the right combination of accounts which suits my financial situation.

Also, I believe that my money experiences as a student have taught me valuable financial lessons, which I may have never have learnt if the fees were far less (i.e $1 or $2)

Banks are straight up with there fees, and they are avoidable. Plus people can change banks anytime they like.

What do you think? Do you think the fees are reasonable? Or to harsh?

General Chat / Is Light Crude Oil a good investment?
« on: June 04, 2013, 03:03:26 pm »
I've been contacted by a company involved in the export of oil from Iraq.

I have had experience with this type of project before, although not on this scale as such. Last week I changed the oil in my lawn mower, and exported the used oil over my neighbours fence, at a rate of one container of oil daily, for a duration of one day.

I know Turkey has a high demand of Light Crude Oil, because they have an estimated 7 million lawn mowers (although a percentage of those lawn mowers may be electric).

I can fit about 3 barrels of Light Crude Oil in my car, one on the passenger seat, one in the back seat, and another in the boot. That would mean I would have to make about 33 thousand trips a day between Iraq and Turkey to keep up with demand, however I could hire some help. If any of you guys are interested please send me a pm.

Here is the business proposal I have received;

Quote
Hello,

The Project is about the exportation of 100,000 barrels of Light Crude
Oil daily out from Iraq to Turkey through my client's company in Iraq
at the rate of $92.00 a barrel. This amount to $9,200,000 daily. I ask
for your support as a foreigner to handle this business project with my
client and you are not expected to invest in Iraq

If yes, let me know and we will discuss this project proper.
