and god doesn't get in the way of things - much like i have never had a unicorn get in the way of my driving There is always room for something that doesn't get in the way. And that impact 'is noticed', whether or not its peoples imaginations or actual miracles, it's noticed. But if I am missing the point of this post, please explain it in further detail.

Ok then, let me put it this way.
Where is there NO room for God.
Obviously I can see where religion can get in the way, but where in the entirety of the universe, does a God get in the way of a single thing.
And I don't need to point out of course, that science explains how things happen, rather than the original cause of it, ie. the theory of evolution does little to explain how the first organisms came to exist. And we know that opposite magnetic forces are attracted to each other, but WHY are they attracted to each other. They have an opposite interpolation? What makes this opposite interpolation react in such a way, why don't they get pushed away?
Please, I would love to see a rational explanation for things like this, and for why God gets in the way of things.

No offense of course  Actually I should probably explain the above statement properly: when something is posted, it is expected that a certain level of intelligence is required to receive said post, when one does not receive said post and it needs to be explained to them, that's fine, they just might not understand it too well, but when a certain person finds it difficult to understand every second post in a thread (exaggeration I admit), something is wrong.

This dude is lost at sea, hes a christian, and he decides to pray to God to save him. He's quietly praying and a fishing trawler passes him, one of the sailors tosses him a rope and yells "Hey are you ok?! Get in" etc etc offering him help, but he declines, saying "God will save me." He continues to pray when a luxury cruiser passes him, again offering help. Again he declines, saying "God will save me." He continues to pray until a helicopter spots him, offering him assistance, which he declines with the same reason. He eventually dies. He gets to 'Heaven' and while he's there he speaks to God "Why didn't you save me!?" he asked, and God replies, "What do you mean? I sent 2 boats and a chopper?" I think its an argument that works both for and against religion. It proves that religion can make people behave dangerously, but it shows that there is a place for God in this day and age. This thread has changed my opinion a good few times, and I do agree religion is not the best, but I am most sure that there is a higher power up there somewhere (imo).

my point is that these things dont happen that is why there is no need to question them - if they did happen then there would be a need to explain them, but nothing ever happens that needs god to explain.

it is more you asked a question, saying that it is basically impossible to say why god does some thing and not others - many questions arise like this if you start from a point of god, but from the position ofno god these problems vanish and everything falls into place
on the inverse - no problems arise from no god - i never need to ask "why did this burning bush command me to...", "why have i been given these tablets with rules on by a space monster" you never have issues that need a god to explain them I lol'd tbh. Of course, that makes perfect sense. If there's no God then a talking burning bush and a space monster giving you tablets with rules on them are perfectly normal. No need to question anything at all there. But apart from that bad example I see where your coming from this time Cobra. An example for me is I'm attending uni this year(Should be year 13 in college), but I did absolutely NO work during school, at all. I'm serious, I did NOT study. I barely scraped through, but my friend who is smarter and studied half the year is attending his final year rather than coming to uni with me which he would much rather do. Doesn't seem fair tbh and raises questions, but I have to trust that there is a reason for this. In the future if something happens to me/him and it all makes sense after that I will be sure to post about it though.

God "gave" us free choice, but choosing something means choosing the consequences as well, he never "said" that he couldn't influence them.
Everyone, stop posting bad 1 liners in the form of a paragraph. If you post something then think about it, don't just make it relevant to the post before it, because a lot of these things have already been answered, even in the last 5 pages.
If you can't be bothered trawling through it then you aren't really after an answer and shouldn't bother asking the question.

It is quite possible that the reason people love half life so much is not just because of the story, but the way they present it. I played... maybe two levels and loved it but only because it seemed so cinematic. It was literally like playing a movie.

No and yes.
Any religion that cannot keep its members will cease to be, as those who choose to believe will simply flock to the "Easiest" religion. But on a side note I also believe it is wrong to keep people from leaving a religion if they feel that it is not the correct one for them (There are many Catholics I know who fled the middle east for fear of their families and their own lives after converting from Islam), but I must also add that my Muslim friend converted to Islam from Catholicism.
I also believe that God would let anyone in Heaven who is compatible... I mean...
I had a discussion with a couple about gaining entry into heaven, and even though religions say that the only way to heaven is through them, I believe that anyone who is a good person will go to heaven, no matter what their faith. I also believe there are certain religious people who won't go to heaven, even some of those ordained who will not "make the cut".
Well I shouldn't refer to some of these people as religious. A lot of people use religion as a mask to hide behind, pretending that they believe in a higher power and are good people when they really just show up to church on a Sunday and then go off back to disrespecting life all around them.
Tldr for that last paragraph; If your nonreligious but good then I believe you will go to heaven, if your religious but.... well... evil(?) then you won't.
I don't believe in the cliche "heaven", but definitely an afterlife of some form, and that the decisions you make in life affect it in some way.

I said before that I was a very unorthodox Catholic, and my beliefs differ greatly, but mostly because I have friends of a variety of faiths. One of my best friends is a Muslim and we used to constantly debate religion, and what came from this is that I found that parts of both our religion were correct in some ways and incorrect in others. IMO religion is a giant puzzle, and all of them are interlinked. I think its Buddhists that think that if you lead a perfect life then you are a God. Jesus supposedly led such a life and Christians accept him as God. Muslims believe Jesus was a great prophet but not the Son of God, but they have many other teachings that coincide with Christian teachings. It also talks about well, the devil I think, coming to earth and pretending to be good, and becomes the president of the world per say, and everyone loves him but he is actually misleading them, which says you can't always trust the dude with the suit shaking your hand with the lottery grant or whatever you may be doing. I take a bit from each religion in my faith, but I admit I do lean towards Catholicism which is why I said I was "Catholic", but the reason I believe in a God so strongly is because of my own experiences as well as those of others around me. I wont bore you with any examples because I'm sure none of you want to hear about another revelation. This coming from someone who speaks on nobodies behalf but my own, I think that each religion is correct in worshiping the "One true God" but the way they do it doesn't matter. If you were an almighty creator don't you think you would get a bit bored with every single person doing the exact same thing to worship you? Everyone either fearing/respecting you so much they stay away, or having everyone treat you like a best friend or something like it? Kind of like you wouldn't want to be eating the same food every day for the rest of your life I guess. That's just my personal view though.

Don't worry Acid, I'm catholic too. Sort of. My beliefs differ from everyone I have met though. I don't take the bible as a literal text and I accept many scientific findings like Evolution and stuff. I also have my own opinions on matters, but the reason no one will ever be converted to my way of thinking is that I have absolutely zero proof (With scientific community or with literal biblical text) that would convert either side to thinking this way.
It's almost a comfortable middle ground, and I had almost succeeded in keeping myself from posting due to my irregular beliefs (I can't speak on behalf of everyone) but sometimes, people need to know that the number 7 actually means "many".

The reason that the number 7 comes up a lot in the Bible is that there is an error in the translation. The translation for the number 7 should actually be read as "Many" rather than 7.

ONE OF THOSE WINDOWS BEING A RICKROLL, YEAH, THAT'S AN AWESOME SOLUTION! When you have net as slow as mine (256kbps) then this solution is very awesome, because if your quick enough (not very quick) you can close the tab before it has a chance to connect you to the rick roll, thus saving all your countless tabs from being lost. Especially since because its trying to connect to all the other tabs as well it gives you a few extra seconds. Yay for slow net! Now, enjoy this watermelon on fire.
