All I can say is F*%& being on that bridge! Looks like the water's starting to go over it at the far end of the bridge on the end of the vid.

watching a massive oil refinery burning out of control,  several nuclear power stations shut down automatic but no reports of radioactive leaks.

If you are near the coast, turn on your radio and pack up your valuables, photos and important documents because the could be a tsunami in NZ and OZ as well as the rest of the pacific rim

Geezus - poor Japan. Gawd this is horrible.

99% sure there wont be a full tsunami here.

Maybe a tide surge.

Japanese Earthquake! 8.9 - 24km* deep

This is my guess at where the tsunami will hit;

I'm thinking Phillipines, Hawaii and maybe PNG with some of the pacific Islands copping a little... But I think we will be fine.
If a wave even double that size has to travel across that much deep water and 11 hours, it will fade to the point of nothing much for us.

Thank god. Friends are inland from Chiba (they live in Chiba) and are free from Tsunami troubles. However his wife was on the 40th floor of a building when the quake hit but he thinks she is OK :\

Can't watch anymore - the NZ woman commentating the 3 news is rambling and making stuff up now - claiming the oil refinery fire is at Tokyo and the airport they were showing has been washed away.
Will check back on it later.

That woman did my head in.
I have just finished work for the night and we processed a japan bound flight.
Tokyo airports have been checked and cleared and the flight was expected to depart on time.

Seemingly the aftershocks are so frequent that they run into each other and are causing motion sickness. Poor blighters.

At least it wasnt under a main city, a 8.9 would flatten most modern cities in the world. I wonder what the power was like in Tokoyo, I saw one of the vids from a news room and it didnt look too violent, how far away was it from there, ball park?
