Phone Salesman.

A great story from the show Britains Got Talent. The audience has little expectation for this cell phone salesman.

There is always a down-side to being God(or a God). This is one of them

Pineapples prove God's existence! The only people that God created were people who either like Pineapples or dont like Pineapples. This clearly shows God's divine plan for all of us, we just have to figure out which of the people God loves: Pineapple eaters or the Pineapple shunners

If His balls are made of Pineapples, I sure hope it is the pineapple shunners he is looking for. The alternative is just too hideous to contemplate.

This discussion is too hard; lets pick another fruit or vegetable.

I vote eggplants.
Obvious 100% undeniable proof of Gods existence. Only the devil could make a vegetable as ugly as this, both visually, aesthetically, and taste-ally, and since the existence of the devil proves undeniably the existence of God, God therefore exists.

See, I hate stupid crap like this - mostly because the ultimate question is: if God created bananas for ease of entry, and evolution is a crock (ie we didn't come from monkeys), then why do monkeys eat more bananas than humans do? I believe God created everything, but I don't think bananas are the undeniable proof that makes everything fall into place.

If they were, I wouldn't be semi-allergic to them.

I don't know any other way to respond to this.

The worst thing is, I posted it to add a bit of humour to the debate, but that guy is serious about it.

Very true, the Butter Chicken pies at BP are excellent, which proves your point on the subjectivity of the subject. lol.

Oops! As this is a joke thread, better put on in.

Little Johnny (Oh noes, not little Johnny) walks past the bathroom and sees him mum in the bath.
"Mummy, what are those?" he asks pointing at her chest.
"Those are my breats dear".
"What is that?" he asks, pointing at her nether regions.
"erm....that's where your daddy hit me with the axe dear" she replies.
"Really?" he says, "Wow! What a shot! Right in the c**t!".

civil unions aren't created for gays, its for anyone who doesn't give a shit about the religious aspect of marriage.

There have been non-religious marriage services for ages now. The government may have spun it in that way, but it was essentially created to allow gays to have a service that was accepted in the eyes of the law (although not neccesarily (sp?) all the people out there) and to try and protect people who live in de facto relationships in the event of separation (although the law was already reasonable sound in this).

...to split and control the atom, journey into outer space, walk the surface of the moon and yet we cant control poverty, this is the ignorance of man.
to find out about quantum physics, the big bang, the expansion of the universe yet we cant find a fucking cure for AIDS. my god! this is the ignorance of man.
just as long as we are technologically advanced and have guns then we are safe. WRONG! because you are your worst fucking enemy! THIS is the ignorance of man!

We COULD control poverty and we COULD find a cure for AIDS, but we lack the will to make the sacrifices to do it. Those secrifices would involve not spending money on things like the military for a while and there are people who would rather ensure their own comfort and safety than help people in a country they will probably never visit.

Quote from: 'frog.;411619
..why is science trying to push the boundaries when it cant control and is unsure whats within the boundaries it already has?

There are scientists working on these issues, but like anything, they need resources and the people who control those resources are investing them in other areas. You are being unkind to blame science as a group.

Quote from: 'frog.;411619
why do we want to journey beyond our solar system ,why do we want to leave earth behind and explore?
simple. because this place is fucked. we want something else.

Wrong! We journey because we want to learn more. The people working on those projects genuinely want to learn what makes the universe tick. "Why should we care?" many people ask. Probably because humans in general seek to increase their knowledge and this is another area to explore. Don't forget, by understanding the structure of atoms, we may have atom bombs and such, but we also have things like smoke detectors, PET scans and GPS navigation satellites. Not everthing science does is destructive. If you have a problem with what they are producing, blame the politicians and the corporations that fund them. And blame the people who vote those politicians in and buy products from the corporations to keep them in a position to influence the direction of science.

I think religious instruction in school is probably the worst thing the church could do. I would guess that a large percentage of those receiving the instruction will call bullshit simply for the fact that the education they recieve teaches one thing and the religious instruction contradicts it. Plus the typical teenage rebel will just laugh and ignore it.

I'm not sure I agree with that. At the school I went to (in Holland) for one year, once a week we had a class that can best be described as humanities. Each week we were taught the beliefs of a different religion and what they stood for. We were also taught the view of the non religious. Our teacher never made a judgement about any of them, making sure he didn't try and sway our personal opinion. It was more about telling us what various people believed and then let us decide what we wanted. It was my second favourite class that year (behind physics).

What I'm trying to say is, if you have a well disciplined teacher, with no personal agenda apart from imparting knowledge without judgement, teaching religious beliefs in school can help increase understanding, and that is a lot better than ignorance.

People can believe in whatever religion they want. I'm not going to stop them. I am going to rip the shit out of them if they try to impose their religion on others. And that is happening more and more in this day and age.

What is happening is that religious people are trying to impose their beliefs on others and non-religious people are trying to impose their non-beliefs on people. I'm sorry, but both sides are as bad as eachother. I have my beliefs (which I will keep to myself), I will not try and force them down other peoples thoats. I also ask that nobody tries to impose their beliefs down mine. Having said that, it two people of differing beliefs can have a civilised conversation about the differences, then I'm all for it, which is what I believe this thread is about, but that is my own belief and I may be wrong. I will also not try and force others to stick by that belief, :laff:.

Religion can be explained by Neo-Darwinism, it is merely a by-product of a desirable trait that once served a purpose.

Darwinism can be explained by religion as a by-product of intelligent design.

The argument will go round in circles for an eternity. One thing we can all be sure of, if religion is right, we'll know when we die. If it is wrong, we will never know.

The "reason" for human life is the same as the "reason" for all other life - to procreate and die. It's what life does. Everything else is simply a means to that end. This is the simple truth about life.

By suggesting the reason for life is to procreate, you imply there is a reason. If there is a reason, there there must have been fore thought prior to implementation, which in turn implies intelligent design (I love that term, so careful not to say God, yet in reality say there is).

I would suggest there is no "reason" for life. In the same way that there is no reason for a mountain, or a lake, or a planet or a galaxy. As suggested  by others, life is a result of the laws of physics that govern our universe and therefore possibly an accidental outcome.

Quote from: TofuEater
So if the universe "determines" that we should no longer be alive then we won't be. It's actually a good point - for instance, there's no need to ban ads for Hyundai's with babies in them because the universe determines whether they will live or die - not the actions of a bunch of wet, handwringing liberals who have too much time on their hands.

That is indeed what some scientists are suggesting. The only problem is as you have pointed out, people could blame their actions on the laws of the universe and say it was beyond their control. They may be right, but I'm not sure anyone in their right miond would like that to be used as a defence in a court of law.
